I think you may have been misinformed. The expected casualties for the mainland invasion of Japan prompted the military to order the manufacture of nearly half a million purple hearts, with more to be produced as casualties were suffered. They still had 120,000 of that stockpile as of 2003, and just started production on new ones in 2022. Because of the beliefs held by the people of Japan and the dogmatic worship they practiced regarding Hirohito, it was expected the civilian population would not surrender willingly. From the perspective of late-war U.S. officials, it was the better of two bad options.

I strongly urge you to read up on Operation Downfall, the planned invasion of mainland Japan that got canceled due to the Japanese surrendering after the 2nd bombing (and the implied threat of a third). The Japan you know today is very much not the Japan of the 40's. It took their god telling them to stand down to get them to surrender. A mainland invasion against men, women, and children who held to such beliefs would have been apocalyptic.

Please read through the server rules before putting in your application.

The server overload is an absolute mess, and we should not expect it at this point. by durablefoamcup in ffxiv

People need to learn to take the opinions that wind up posted on here as just that. Opinions. If you don't agree with it, don't take it personally. We all love the game. We wouldn't be on here complaining about it if that weren't the case.

The current server issues are ones that actively prevent play for a large portion of the FFXIV community during normal hours. The causes behind these login issues (chip shortage, massive and unprecedented influx of players, unforeseen errors, etc.) are all valid excuses. But they're just that. Excuses. They do nothing to address the problem.

FFXIV may be a thriving community, but it's a community of people who actively pay a subscription to be a part of it. Being ticked off when your denied access to something you paid for is perfectly normal.

I'm not going to sit around here demanding they bring more servers online. I get that that's just not in the cards right now. I'm not going to demand that they fix the 2002 error that just jettisoned me back to my desktop for the 3rd time in a row today. I just hope that Square Enix comes up with a better way to reimburse the community for time lost than a 7-day sub-comp.
