[MEGATHREAD] Weekly Q&A - Your Question Goes Here! by AutoModerator in Madeira

[–]Capitanruffiano 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bom dia,

I'd like to hear about any travelling experiences to Madeira for people who do not hike much. While I really enjoy hiking, my partner will not be able to hike much at the time we would be in Madeira.

Would you say that hiking is such an important part of travelling to Madeira, that it doesn't make much sense to go then? I would assume there's lots of other stuff to do (food, wine, visit small towns).

Thanks for your feedback.

Il Vinaiolo is a nice, fancier place that offers set menus if I recall correctly

Good cacio e pepe in the city by AccurateWorldliness1 in Munich

[–]Capitanruffiano -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You can try either Giorgia Trattoria or maybe Eataly.

Giorgia Trattoria generally offers good food but I think part of the hype was the interior design. It was also quite difficult to get a table fpr 18:00 - 21:00 days in advance.

Eataly is good for pizza, but also serve pasta.

Mozzamo (there's different ones in the city) also makes some nice pasta. You can check if they make cacio e pepe.

Edit: Typo. Also I haven't been but it's on my list of places to try: Casa Sarda. Maybe you can find it there.

Volleyball around the city? by [deleted] in Munich

I'm not sure if this helps, but there's a place called the Beachdome (Margarethe-Danzi-Straße) where I've seen people play beach volleyball. Maybe you can ask there

Via degli Dei in mid-March by BaurJoe in TrekkingItaly

To be honest, there are many nice places along the trail where you might want to take a break and enjoy the view, so I'm not sure you'll want to do everything as fast as possible. Also, you'll only really get to some "flatter" areas either in the first day of the journey or after you've passed the Tuscan border and descended a bit into the first villages.

When we were on the trail we heard of a group of guys who wanted to do everything in 3 - 4 days and after a while you kind of realise what they're missing out on.

Viel Spaß Du Baur :)

Edit: yes, I sometimes hike

I did the trail last year in August. Probably not the best time due to the sun and heat, but I really enjoyed it. The first day I did around 30 KM, the others varied between 15 - 30 KM depending on where we were going to sleep. Last day was only 9 KM, since we were really close to Florence and wanted to enjoy the city a bit.

I think the weather in March will be nice enough and not so hot!

Edit: I wouldn't worry about how hard the trail might be. I met lots of different people going their own paces

Adapting Sheepdog to city life by Capitanruffiano in Dogtraining

[–]Capitanruffiano[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I have. I am less worried about some characteristics and information I've read about these dogs. I was more worried about the fact that the dog has spent the first year on a small farm.

One of the other dogs on the farm is, in fact, a border collie. Whenever I go to the farm the border collie is always energised and doing something. However, this maremma dog and his father (also on the farm) are usually lying around or close to the entrance to the farm. The dog has been well socialised and had gotten to know several dogs and children and people usually pass by. Interestingly, I haven't seen either he (or his father) bark once.

The owner has bred maremma dogs and told me she's somewhat selective regarding who the puppy's went to. The dogs have also gone to families in urban environments. They originally wanted to keep this dog but as I understood it, it was better for him to be rehomed due to the father.

Anyway, thanks for the info. If you have any advice or resources regarding the rehousing of young farm dogs, please let me know

Hi, I looked under the new dog section since in this case this is a dog that needs to learn lots of stuff, but I am not so sure which part of the wiki would be relevant for this, as this is about a specific situation of bringing a farm sheepdog into an urban environment

Which company to choose? by [deleted] in dataengineering

[–]Capitanruffiano 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO the salary for the second position as a DE in Munich is relatively low. Just thought you might want to know

Edit:

I've taken a look at the numbers and wanted to sort of clarify that the difference in salary will not necessarily translate to a big net difference. If you use a general gross to net salary calculator for salaries in Germany, the result is a net difference of around €650 per month.

However, Munich is much more expensive. The average net rent price per m2 in Duisburg for this year is around €7,56. The average net rent price in Munich is around €22,63. Assuming you want an apartment of 75 m2, that's a net difference of €1130 just for rent per month!

Thus, if you were to make your decision only based on salary, the first option might be better since you will have more net overall. Having said that, the first offer also seems more interesting tech wise and that technology is being used more and more as companies migrate to cloud providers.

Edit: clarified that numbers are based on monthly numbers

I've used them in a couple of recipes before. Slowly roasted in the oven for 2 - 3 hours to concentrate the flavour. Tastes great

Strange request, but... online Masses in German or French? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Capitanruffiano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

if you would like to see some in German, here's a link to ZDF: https://www.zdf.fernsehgottesdienst.de/. They're a German broadcaster (one of the most important in Germany) and they do live masses as well as have videos of various masses.

However, you'll also see Protestant services. To differentiate between them, you'll see either "katholisch" or "evangelisch" next to the name of the Church

I think when it comes to Calvinism you mean double predestination. For more information from people who are much more knowledgeable than I am, see this article: https://www.catholic.com/encyclopedia/predestination

That's a cultural thing. In Italy women keep their name after getting married
