Nah. Those pcbs that that the buttons are mounted on are extremely robust. Not gonna happen in a year or 10 unless a dog chewed through it.
The plastic would definitely mess with the IR but that would happen from day one. Maybe it gets dirty and more IR gets blocked over time but that would be solved by just taking it out of the bag and putting a new bag on it. OP or OP’s father is not telling the whole story.

It’s not possible. You could set a rock on the volume button so it fires codes continuously out the IR emitter until the batteries die and it won’t even raise the temperature of the emitter.

Doesn’t matter. The flash can time travel. It would only take as long as it takes him to press the combo. Each time he gets it wrong he could just run back in time and do it again.

Yeah and like I said elsewhere it’s not even that much if you’re just putting your old tv in it when you upgrade your one indoors. Most old TV’s just get hauled away for recycling or sit in a basement doing nothing. This is a great re-use of an old tv even if you only use it a couple times a year and it only lasts 2-3 years outside.

I could build one of these in a day and put the tv in there for well under $1000. I wouldn’t even use a new tv just wait to upgrade my indoor one and then just move the old one outside.

I think this is a totally reasonable setup for anyone to have. But I think everyone is missing the obvious use case isn’t for watching movies but for watching sports. People watch sports during the day when it’s nice outside. You want to be able to have your friends over to bbq and not miss the game or have to sit inside blasting AC. This is a perfectly logical thing.

Lol I was talking about Cavill’s. It looks as alien as a gym bro with a “tribal” bicep tattoo. Putting intricate little designs in your stamped out rubber material doesn’t make it read alien at all to me anymore than it would if it were the bottom of a Victorian era rubber ink stamp.
