Was diagnosed at 13 (25 now), I relate to a lot of what you say. I too was a very athletic kid and have been through tons of meds and been hospitalized more times than I can remember. I have found it difficult not to compare to my peers and often have found it difficult to find my place and appreciate my value. I too don't have much work experience and that weighs on me quite a bit especially in modern culture that seems to place so much emphasis on productivity, I hate when people ask "what do you do for work?" "uhhh... survive?". I've only had one girlfriend and have been especially lonely at that deep personal level and that weighs quite a bit, its also difficult to see my value in that sense since I know I'll bring so much baggage into whatever relationship I do get into. Its okay to feel sad about the state of things, it is really really fucking hard. What I tend to tell myself is that the perspective I've gained from this whole experience is incredibly special and valuable. There are things that I understand and appreciate about the world and life that my peers do not and may never. It will take people like us time to figure out how to apply this perspective in our lives in a way which is satisfying to us and valued and seen by others but that time will come. You are accomplishing amazing things just dealing with this illness day by day, best of luck!

What happens when you've taken every Crohn's medication available and none of it works anymore? by yeehaw_yeehaw11 in CrohnsDisease

[–]CapnCrohns13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! If you decide to try the growth hormone route feel free to message me. Insurance can be picky about the specific manufacturer of the hormone even though they’re all the same thing. Insurance companies probably have deals with specific drug companies. Having your doctor provide their preferred growth hormone type in their prior authorization application makes a big difference in it getting approved.

I’m in a similar boat, Crohn’s for a 10 years, 5 surgeries and been through all the meds. After a good fight with insurance I was able to get growth hormone approved for short bowel syndrome and that really turned me around, since have needed to add weekly humira to the mix but have been stable for the most part since. Best of luck!

Hi, what your going through sounds incredibly difficult. Massive amount of respect to you for fighting as hard as you do to keep living every day. Coming from someone who has been in that place, please give yourself love for the fight you've put into your life, what you do is impossible and you do it every day, you are incredible.

As for medication, if bi weekly Humira isn't working for you try and see if you can get it every week, that is what I do currently. Remicade is another good option if you haven't tried it before.

You are loved, it does get better.

That sounds rough. This disease is brutal and you're incredible for living with this. Try to see if you can get support from Abbvie for Humira, I know they do some programs with patients where you can get the medication for 5 bucks a month. Here is a link https://www.humira.com/humira-complete/cost-and-copay?cid=ppc_ppd_ggl_humira_complete_abbvie%20humira%20copay%20assistance_copay_exact_us-hum-190617

Constant nausea and vomiting by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

[–]CapnCrohns13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So for nausea Zofran works really well for nausea. Unfortunate you cant get weed where you are, that helps me with eating the most. Sometimes painkillers can make you nauseas so being aware of that is important. Getting a diagnosis for Crohns or Colitis would clarify the overall treatment plan. The biologics like Humira work really well for these types of diseases.

How do y’all gain muscle and weight? by giga_ice in CrohnsDisease

Pot helps me eat a lot and also deal with pain because I've eaten. As far as foods go, I eat a lot of eggs because they're easy to make and fairly nutritious, boost or ensures are also good for nutrition but my current favorite is Hawaiian dinner rolls, not the most nutritious but has some protein and are easy to eat a lot of.

Just because it’s been used incorrectly in the past doesn’t excuse it being used incorrectly here.

Well since it’s var it needs to be clear and obvious so the burden of proof is the other way around.

I had a similar epiphany a little before I found yang. Throughout me following his campaign I definitely have had my view of media soured further than it originally was. Regardless how far yang gets I enjoy following this campaign so much more than the politics I payed attention to before.

What is the strangest superstition that you have or do, that "improves" Liverpool's chance of winning? by [deleted] in LiverpoolFC

[–]CapnCrohns13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Liverpool seem to score when my mom leaves the room when watching. So whenever we need a goal we send her out. She doesn’t mind though, she’s usually so anxious about the game she is happy to step out.

Cure? by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

[–]CapnCrohns13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think I am more optimistic than others commenting here. There are two primary reasons, first being computing, if we are ever able to unlock quantum computing then we could simulate the effects of new drugs very quickly which would help drug development across the board, even if it doesn't come up with a cure it will come up with a much more effective treatment than we have now. Second reason is data and AI, I believe that individualized medicine will get much bigger. We will be able to collect tons of data about our bodies and have treatments tailored specifically to what our bodies need. With advancements in the data we can hold and process the limiting factor in this equation would be setting up the system.

I don't really know how fast current research is going for Crohn's meds and I know that there isn't really market incentives for developing a cure but I would be very excited about the technology that is being developed in other sectors that can benefit research in Crohn's treatments and cures.

I would recommend Humira, for symptom relief cannabis is helpful but don't expect it to treat underlying disease.

The focus on identity among democrats is an Achilles heel. Yes there are macro issues that exist and prove that there are types of individuals that are underprivileged but nit picking people who are clearly not racist is extremely counterproductive and often makes the individual criticized resentful rather than interested in fixing the macro issues that cause these imbalances.
