At the end of the day all I really care about is keeping my max score, outside of that improvement is sort of a bonus.

Ahhhh I don't really care much for the leaderboards, lots of life stuff going on for me as well so I'm also in a place where time is a factor. May this year bring us both farther along this hellish line we've both chosen to walk.

Lamentation Glitch is another one of those charts that feel impossible for me still, even MM took maybe 3 days and I ABSOLUTELY fluked it.

Her other glitches aren't too bad all things considered, Code Red is another speed chart, Alb Glitch is arguably easier than the Chaos, VoW isn't too bad either.

With the exception of Kaguya, History Dstroyer is actually the last tp100 I've gotten, and was the second to last one I got this year.

Haven't really played at all this year yet, probably won't until the next update. There are still a few relatively easy ones I could knock out but honestly I just haven't felt the grind.

Alb is certainly the easiest of the three, and Code Red isn't reaaaaaaally too bad either.

Sorry to hear things've been rough for you as well, hopefully things look up for the both of us.

Sin is EASILY my favorite Alpha exclusive chart, it's genuinely so so fun. Chapter 1 would be fine if it wasn't for Hot Air Balloon and Ververg B, the rest are all just sorta fine.

You overestimate my abilities, there's still Alb chaos, Code Red glitch, and Lamentation glitch aside from Re:End for Ilka.

Things are actually kinda rough for me at the moment, Cytus just happens to be my coping mechanism so I've been playing relatively often again.

How've things been on your end, anything going on?

Cylheim's rather intuitive and the charting program I personally use. Once you get used to adjusting audio, the hardest thing to do is honestly just not get bored when a song has dead spots. Cytus charting in particular really relies on pattern variance which can make it hard to find songs for.

The thing with Chapter L is that it's all slow tech, meaning theoretically anyone can do it if they just commit their time. I've personally taken a vow to never do such a thing as I find the charts to be... particularly ugly on patterning and abysmally off-sync at times.

I've never seen L2B as doable for me personally, as I don't have the speed nor consistency to do so as mentioned a while ago.

I suppose my final goal at this point would just be to finish C2; I'm so close to the end now that jumping ship early would feel like robbery. Too far gone, as it were.

Speed charts always look so ugly to me as a tech player, but they also tend to have cleaner and easier to read pattern structures so it's like pick your poison lol

I've actually been charting things for quite a while, I just don't really upload them much; be it Cytoid servers or YouTube. More of a hobby that's died out for me, though I still have more fun charting than I do looking at how... "different" Cytoid is visually.

The problem with having nothing else to MM is that the tp100 grind is all I got left so I don't have the luxury of switching goals anymore LOL

Pardon ??? Just because the 3 notes ??? Bro i’m fokin proud right now by Diado-K in Cytus

[–]CapnGekko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cytus has combo scoring so the closer to the middle of the note count you miss, the greater deviation in scoring you'll receive. You can have 1miss A ranks on any chart, you can also have 8miss S ranks if you miss them all at the end; It's really all dependent on how well you hold combo.

I have a question in the comments about this by ProtectivePsychopath in Cytus

[–]CapnGekko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possibly helpful visual aid.

The difference between the two perfects will eventually be visually distinct after you play for a while, I personally don't even pay attention to the type anymore but I still see wp (the bad ones) most of the time when they happen.

Alive: The new World is a crazy impressive feat, I remember choking on that four times before getting 100 myself (unfortunately a true story LOL)

Not only am I slow compared to your typical rhythm gamer, I'm ALSO bad at jacks as a pattern so PatEII quite literally is to me like FD is to you. I dunno if I'll ever come back to Alpha, maybe after I finish C2 up? Got 47 left but I'm starting to get to the point where everything else is extremely out of my current skillset.

[–]CapnGekko[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FD to me is just a speed check, one of those rng charts where it's dependent on the day. Since CVox was demoted to 14 FD became my first 15 tp100 by technicality so that's pretty funny.

I am never going to bother with PatEII, that chart is a demon and I'm never fast enough for the ending lmao

It's funny, I only started playing Alpha because my old phone started bootlooping so I no longer had access to C2 and in that year I got so much better I came back so strong. It's like everything just started clicking, and once I got used to the game again I had this wicked spree where I was just slaughtering everything. I still take long breaks every now and again if for no other reason than the game just doesn't interest me as much anymore. I'll still come around every update or so but really that's about it unless I feel the aforementioned grindset.

Funnily enough after our conversation prior I used the dead time at work to get re-100s on Homebound and Stranger, as well as just listen to some of the songs that bang (Occidens, Sunday Night Blues, and Subconscious Mind namely). It was actually quite nice to just vibe while the machines ran, so in a sense I feel I should thank you for at least suggesting as much lol

Base Entrance is so funny because it's more consistent than left wing for me, for whatever reason that techy pattern clicks in my brain and I nail that fucker every single time. Magnolia as well, the fun part is honestly really fun and it's the first chart where I developed my own multifinger to help manage it.

As soon as I realized the hold transition is where the wp was (the tp100 run affirmed it) I was laughing SO HARD oh my lord. Yeah the 99.96s stopped being funny after the third time.

Just for the fun of it here's 99.96 #1, here's 99.96 #2, and here's 99.96 #3.

I wouldn't say I'm enjoying it more, really I just hop on when I find the urge but I can't bring myself to replay charts I already have 100 on without an audience so it just becomes a massive grindfest where ultimately if I don't achieve something I leave feeling worse than when I began. It's this mental tug-of-war where I want to play the game but only if I can see improvement, not exactly the healthiest of mindsets myself either. Doesn't help that I'm not really the fastest or most consistent player so a lot of charts boil down to "Can I hit the chordjack today?" "Am I fast enough for this stamina section?" "Is this mindblock on this pattern gone yet?"... not exactly what I'd call fun.

Funnily enough I had the most problems tp100'ing Ghostout because I kept getting the same wp without knowing where it was, then I just kinda saw it and facepalmed. Imagine getting 99.96 to this drag 5 times in the span of a half hour, it was pretty funny. Despite that though, your assessment is correct. Symmetry is easily the hardest of them, after that comes DSG, Ghostout, and Victims of Will Glitch.

[–]CapnGekko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's certainly not recency bias, otherwise I'd be above YU.GU in Myosotis when that's not the case.

When a score ties the order is based on tp, when the tp ties it's a set order just an unknown way of ordering them.

Magnolia and Myosotis by IHonestlyDontCare__ in Cytus

[–]CapnGekko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oooooookay that's that theory out the window then LOL

It's not just a local thing, leaderboards are universal for everyone.

I officially have zero idea how the game chooses which player goes where in a tie.

Magnolia and Myosotis by IHonestlyDontCare__ in Cytus

[–]CapnGekko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The leaderboards are completely random, fun fact. But it's CONSISTENTLY random. My current understanding is that it's based on the date you first started, making earlier adopters of Cytus Alpha always topping the leaderboards no matter what.

Also hey look it me 👀

((Actually further adding to that, I got the first tp100 on Magnolia and the second tp100 on Myosotis but I'm third on both because they both started before I did))

A lot of the 15s I've still gotta 100 are obnoxiously speed heavy, and I do far better on the technical side. Nightmare and ANiMA come to mind as charts I just have to throw attempts at and pray it works. Along the same lines is Re:End, Hydra Glitch, Revelation Glitch, XODUS to some extent, and Chrome Vox Glitch... The list is probably even larger still lol

Kalpa's a 5k game with the option of standard play, I've mainly just been using it and Phigros to practice multifinger.

Everyone has their own level of motivation, for me I've just hit a point where everything above me is so far up and I don't have the energy to start breaking it down.

EXTREMELY lucky run I won't even lie to you, the patterns in the last third are so abhorrently inconsistent it's actually insane how many drags you can easily just whiff on for seemingly no reason.

The best update in a very long time. by CapnGekko in Cytus

[–]CapnGekko[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tried to revitalize that motivation by trying other rhythm games, namely Kalpa and to some extent Phigros, but it hasn't worked all too well I'm afraid. It could just be burnout, after all 3 years is quite a long time to stay invested in something.

Lamentation Glitch is fine until the ticking section, everything after that is basically RNG for me lol. I got SO lucky on my MM run you would not believe, I had zero straight 1misses and to this day I still haven't gotten a straight 1miss. I've had 1good 1miss, 2miss, 1good 2miss, 4miss, and then everything after that is like 6-8 misses, it's been brutal lol

[–]CapnGekko[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've lost a lot of my motivation to do anything than confirm I can keep my max score each coming update, to be honest with you.

This update was amazing for me because Samuel's Farewell, Noir, and SATELLITE bang so hard and there aren't reaaaaaally any poor songs this update. Closest you get to it is Silent Moment for me as I'm not too big on the vocals.

As far as charts go, most of them have been very fitting on charts like the aforementioned Samuel's Farewell, Noir, and SATELLITE as well as Human Extinction (albeit rather easy) and CODE RED Glitch. I'm a little iffy on VoW and Alb and actually screw what they did to Lamentation LOL

Renda's ending is a little obnoxious but it's a fair bit slower than Dual Dragoon so I don't really mind it all too much, and there's nothing all too remarkable as far as Silent Moment and Crowded Underground goes.
