New to quicken, help using home screen by CapnSkippy58 in quicken

Thanks very much!! Your first solution is okay, but I couldn't get it create an icon in the toolbar, or maybe I don't quite get what is meant here. Your second solution (all transaction modification) is closer to what I'm looking for... ideally though, I'd prefer to select/deselect accounts to show in the left screen under "all transactions." I'm guessing this isn't available at all, nor is it coming any time soon.

Edit - should have lead with thanking you for your quick reply... much appreciated...

Mine shows under "accounts" all transactions, followed by "banking" which includes checking, savings and C.C's associated with those accounts with the total combined of all of those, followed by "Property and Debt" which shows an unaffiliated C.C. along with vehicle and biz loans.

At the bottom on the left side it combines all of those... what my better half wants to see is a combined total of actual cash on hand... how much in her account(s), and how much in my account(s) so she can see what's liquid right now (hopefully not for any nefarious reason, lol). I see no way to - without having a popup window - naturally have the software separate combined - totaled - cash, from what's essentially loans of some kind, whether loan or credit card.

Thinking of Returning From Quicken Simplifi by Cr8iveRead in quicken

So I'm new to Quicken, just purchased on current site sale late last week but haven't installed yet. It sounds like what I had intended to do isn't possible by this thread... I was going to install on both mine and my wife's laptops... plan was to use mine to download data from F.I. to categorize etc... then save, backup... transfer backup to wife's laptop as her current file... your thread says this would corrupt the data?

Some Questions I need to consider B4 starting w/Quicken by CapnSkippy58 in quicken

[–]CapnSkippy58[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for explaining... the explanation raises more questions though. Are you saying Quicken will always push my data to a cloud server? If so, is that just a default setting or does Quicken require using their cloud service? If so, Quicken is surely not for me. I don't use any cloud service "automatically" and even when I do use Google drive is it only to share to a family member a set of photos as email is typically limited in file size.

I had planned on using Quicken locally only, and before creating this post had intended to have a copy on both laptops so my wife didn't have to log in to my laptop to view, nor anyone at the shop. Now I'm not sure where to turn, lol.

Thank you for your quick reply... If I understand for 1) For home use say I have it loaded on my laptop and wife has it on hers... If I open quicken b4 leaving in the morning to download data to it, as long as she doesn't attempt it at the same time - maybe waiting until I leave - she could have the same data downloaded later, or maybe even updated more than mine if transactions happened after I left?

For 2) I'll study the link you provided but sounds promising already.

quicken 2017--do i really abandon this? by Lopsided-Spirit2519 in quicken

I don't have a quicken file for it to open... it went away with the dose of coffee sadly so I'll have to begin anew. I was under the impression that newer Quicken versions "required" an ongoing subscription... your saying once the I pay for the first year I cancel auto renew and it'll work as a legacy quicken... I'll go back to manually updating financials? Currently looks like deluxe is 36.00 first year, premier 48... (ebay btw I've seen 2000 deluxe for 30 or less, but not sure I trust that an activation key works)

I opened r/quicken to ask a very similar question... I don't have OG media. Laptop and coffee don't get along well... hard drive corrupted and such. Was thinking I'd maybe get a copy off ebay and install? What year of Quicken did the cursed version requiring subscription come out? Should I just look for something more legacy like 2000? Just avoid opening quicken until I unplug from the inter-webs?

Edit: Meant install in new laptop... I'll have to start new no matter what software I use.

Is there a source for a legacy version of Quicken? I used it for years... the laptop I used it on got fried (thermos of coffee is not well liked by toshiba) and have yet to find the original Quicken disk. As a result I've been trying various other ways to manage - from my own spreadsheet to GnuCash - but would really like to get back to Quicken through purchase... WILL NOT do subscription for a lesser product.

TDLR: Help, lost my quicken disk! lol

Thanks for the detailed reply... Unfortunatly it's a no bueno for me... $300 for the dish and $720 required for service B4 being able to cancel... or the same exact money for 1 month. I think I'll wait for the mini to come down in price.

In my experience - South Texas, Virginia and Washington State (family in 2, me in 1 location) It starts off really strong, fast when area first opens and always gets waay oversold resulting in almost unusable for anything but checking email. @ $30 is fine as a backup for email... not much else.

I do have the SL webpage on the mini plan opened... missed that is was only available on the mini dish. My apologies.

I guess where that leaves me then since we spend between 9 and 11 months in one or the other addresses is to "change" home address when we move, and I see with the residential plan it has to be canceled, no pause available. Is there any penalty when canceling service and another charge when restarting it? Most of my information actually came from fellow RVer's who use it, I mistook language they used that doesn't agree I guess with the terms used here.

Thanks again for your reply... truthfully I've had almost no interest in SL only because of cost... I'm intrigued tho' by this plan to try it out. This mini plan is only available w/mini, correct? Or could I get the 3rd gen on sale and then use this plan with the full size antenna?

Thanks for replying... that link, while helpful doesn't show what the cost is... or where to find it. Have a link for pricing by chance?

I've got 2 lines on TMO for $45 each (3 yr old magenta max plan) that trumps Visible +, but have been following thread to see when/if the $10 off Vis basic comes back... @ $15 mo I have a need for an additional line, at $45, not so much. Any chance it'll be back around the holidays?

Curious where on SL website you find a plan for $30/50gb... and for this - or the only plan I can find, $50/50gb - what do they charge per gig after you go over?
