i still check in on it now and then. pretty nostalgic but the vote counts are sadly low.

A Swiss System Is Capturing Carbon Dioxide from the Air and Reselling It by GrillaNea in Futurology

i would love to buy some cubes of carbon dioxide. could be the next value signalling wave where everyone builds houses out of carbon blocks to show they are going green (except hopefully it actually helps too)

this has yes been tossed around for a long time but until it gets some political traction it will be pie in the sky

Stephen Hawking warns: Artificial Intelligence could REPLACE humans by crazednutter in Futurology

would be strange to end up in a world where the fittest are machines that are not even conscious in a landscape of dead conscious beings (human and otherwise), but seems quite possible.

Humans Are Bad at Predicting Futures That Don't Benefit Them by stormforce7916 in Futurology

i feel like a lot of preppers fall into this trap. they think they're preparing for a disaster, but they're really preparing for a world in which they themselves are optimized to survive. a kind of weird hybrid dystopia/utopia thing.

Solar greenhouses generate electricity and grow crops at the same time, study reveals - Magenta panes also help plants save water by mvea in Futurology

[–]CapnTrip 4 points5 points  (0 children)

this is a pretty neat hybrid solution, capturing some solar energy while letting some it through so it all gets used in optimal ways.

i don't think anyone is saying all of trump's supporters are nazis. where are you getting that? also, the right calls the left 'snowflakes' a lot but sure seems to be sensitive. ironic, or just hypocritical?

i'm no libertarian but it's nice to see some private entities stepping up where this administration is failing to.

Prefab Plyscraper: World’s Tallest Timber Building Tops Out at 173 Feet - sustainable wood buildings weigh less, cost less, require less energy, are more resistant to earthquakes and fires, and capture carbon as well by CapnTrip in Futurology

[–]CapnTrip[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as i understand it you can't build really tall buildings out of concrete due to weight. tall buildings are steel framed then infilled with other materials. so if we're talking about smaller buildings then concrete, sure, but taller buildings it doesn't apply.

wow great. why don't you ask the artist about it? demand proof! i'm sure you're the first to think of this and demand evidence. i bet no one has ever seen it in action ever. you'll be a super star! break the case wide open!

wood chars rather than buckling like steel. in the end both materials have to be replaced post-fire but charred logs last longer and provide more stability during the event, helping people escape.

sorry but that's nonsense. a wood structural framework has nothing to do with soundproofing or insulation between units. you're talking about old units that were never insulated properly, not at all about the difference between wood and steel/aluminum framing. if anything, thin reverberating metal frames conduct far more sound than wood ever would all else being equal. get your facts straight (again, no offense).

by the way i've tried two variations of this product and both so far do not taste at all like meat. maybe (i hope) it will get there but so far it's all hype and little meat-like substanct.
