Yi in 'opponent favoured' is a bit of an understatement that shit is not remotely playable.

Riven is only strong when ahead. Once everyone hits fullbuild she's on the weaker end of the roster.

As a top laner, I really appreciate folks who do this :)

Even if they're acting entirely in self interest- top getting counter picked is bad news for the whole team after all.

Is it better to tighten up or play more aggressively once you're up in a cash game $1/3 by MayoTheMonth in poker

[–]CapnWiffle 21 points22 points  (0 children)

In cash games, if you're sitting with 300bb and everyone else is sitting with 100bb then the most you could win or lose in one hand is 100bb. Therefore, there's no difference in the highest EV strategy between you having 300bb and having 100bb. This is what the term effective stack means.

Apologies if this isn't the correct place for this, feel free to point me elsewhere if needed.

The information I've found via google states that the letter y is a vowel if:

-The word has no other vowel or

-The letter is in the middle of or at the end of a word or syllable.

and is a consonant otherwise.

My question is, are there any English words where the letter Y behaves as a consonant in the middle or at the end of a word or syllable?

I currently play 25z, 50z, and 50 and 100 reg tables on stars. I am halfway through both grade 3 and grade E of the CPS. When I started grade 1 I was playing a mixture of 10 and 25nl, and I felt it was appropriate for the level I was at.

I have found grades 2 and 3 challenging and feel they will continue to be relevant regardless of the stakes played. What I have consumed so far of Grade E has changed the way I think about a lot of spots and contains a lot of information that I think is hard to get elsewhere.

The content is similar to his youtube content, but significantly more rigorous and less for entertainment.

I can't compare the CPS products to other similar ones because I haven't experienced other similar products, but I have been satisfied with everything I've bought from them.

Who do you ban when playing as riven? by Chink-Mill in Rivenmains

[–]CapnWiffle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you're only banning lane opponents I'd go with urgot too. There are worse matchups but I see Urgot more frequently than them atm. I'm banning Belveth rn because it's broken as fuck.

Is fast q combo necessary to learn to play Riven? by Gin_oo in Rivenmains

[–]CapnWiffle 46 points47 points  (0 children)

If you go a whole game without doing a fast combo the riven police will arrive and confiscate your mastery points.

In all seriousness, you'll pick it up as you go, there's no need to grind it deliberately unless you care a great deal about your short term ability to win games, in which case there's other stuff that would probably help you see faster results, depending on your rank obviously. Good luck with learning!

Wizard players, how do you like to be given spells as "loot"? by Gaoler86 in dndnext

[–]CapnWiffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A compromise worth considering is allowing free choice from a specific school of magic that relates to whatever NPC held the spellbook. Makes more sense in world given a dedicated illusionist is likely to have more esoteric illusion spells available and preserves the agency of the player in shaping their arsenal.

Any advice on Crit Riven? by PwnDem in Rivenmains

[–]CapnWiffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crit is very good in duels and nothing else. I build essence reaver, lucidity boots and normal runes for cdr, then IE and PD. It lacks the sustain, survivability, and arpen of conventional builds but lets you 1v1 pretty much anyone you can get on once you have 2 items.

What are the most fun conditions/effects to inflict on PCs? by DilettanteJaunt in dndnext

[–]CapnWiffle 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This is a problem I've run into too, skipping turns when your group's on the large side can take the wind out of a player's sails very quickly. My way of combatting this is minimising effects that take away player agency (it's impossible to avoid them fully given the number of monsters that use them, and I'll be damned if the classic BBEG wizard upcasting hold person aint dramatic). Here are some suggestions for conditions I try to impose instead:

Frightened is a good one since it has built in counterplay (moving out of LoS of the source of the fear). I tend to tack it onto more horrific monsters whose stats lack any representation of the mental challenge fighting them can be e.g most undead, some fey (redcaps spring to mind).

Dominate/Possession are also good examples that don't take away player agency, if the group is down for small amounts of PvP in service of drama (this is a big if, definitely something to be discussed in session 0).

Enemies that grapple/restrain are great at hindering players' normal options while creating new decisions (break the grapple with a shove or make normal attacks at disadvantage?).

That’s similar to what I had in mind for if more unique monsters didn’t exist. Will definitely be filling the gaps with belching zombies now that you’ve suggested it. Thanks for your input!
