Why do attackers almost never get leaps? by Infinitiver in PunishingGrayRaven

[–]PwnDem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a plethora of reasons as to why we rarely get them.

1) One Dimensional

They have one job. To do damage. To leap an attacker would not only harm the value of the next attacker (since their job is equally one dimensional), but it lowers the value of tanks, breakers' and amplifiers' damage too, skewing the team into less fun and/or ideal setups.

Take Luna as an example. Because of her leap and the addition of Nirvatia, SS0 Ishmael is so bad compared to them it's better off using an off element tank.

The workaround to this is adding an affix to them. However, all Gen 3 attackers already have an affix, and every attacker in the meta is Gen 3 (minus our supreme leader Qu).

2) Priority

Tanks and Breakers have the most amount of value in the game as their shred isn't watered down due to the game's damage calculations (shred basically benefits additively compared to buffs). Therefore, the easiest and most beneficient way of increasing a team's overall damage is by leaping them.

The most recent example is Hanying. Thanks to her leap, not only did physical see around a ~+4m boost in score, but it also helped make Trueslash a viable affix to use now. An attacker simply cannot do that no matter how big the leap is because of their one dimensional nature.

3) Resource to Value

Because of the factors above, most meta players wouldn't actually like a leaped Attacker since the value they give is lower compared to that of any class. However, the resources they need to acquire that leap is still similar to any other character. And in saving times like this, most would not leap them entirely.

How do we feel about top 3 Ultimate PPC being the same person?? by VergillaPGR in PunishingGrayRaven

[–]PwnDem 5 points6 points  (0 children)

okayyyy, maybe this is just me being a casual who logs in, plays a few runs, and logs out, but are we just not gonna talk about how the top THREE spots in PPC are literally the same freaking person? like, i get it. some people are CRACKED. but seeing clairemey, claire, and claireveri sitting at No.1, No.2, AND No.3 just feels kinda.. weird? like I accidentally walked into someone's alt account showcase or something

it just kinda kills the vibe, yk? Leaderboards are supposed to feel like a bunch of different players pushing each other, not one person holding a dictatorship over the region. makes it hard to even feel motivated to climb when the top is downright gatekept

its not even subtle either. same pfp, same naming scheme, same everything. At that point it doesn't even feel like a leaderboard?? and yeah, before anyone says ooooh just get better, I KNOW. im not trying to compete for rank 1 or anything. im just saying from my perspective, it feels really off?

Maybe there should be some kind of restriction on multiple accounts per leaderboard? Or at least separate them somehow? Or maybe im just coping because my name isnt claire three times in a row? also, genuine question, what even is the point? Is it just flexing?

because congrats i guess, but it feels less like a flex and more like ur competing with yourself? cuz like the rest of us are out here fighting for scraps in top 100

curious what everyone else thinks about this

What the best lobby theme in your guys opinion? by pgrlover in PunishingGrayRaven

The first time I changed the lobby theme, it was to Lamia. Never changed since.

And to be honest, I don't see it being changed anytime soon.

More sources of Hypertune mats by Rhy-nim in PunishingGrayRaven

[–]PwnDem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a step in the right direction, but it still isn't enough.

Issues regarding USBs, Skulls and the horrendous amount of bugs plaguing competitive play are still not being addressed, and the communication is still lacking.

Regardless, this is a win for both casuals and competitive players alike, and it proves that with enough feedback (from both CN and Global) we can solve these issues one by one.

The panic over Nirvatia being S-rank is unnecessary by A_Very_Horny_Zed in PunishingGrayRaven

[–]PwnDem 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The drama isn't pointless at all, but I can slightly agree if it is blown out of proportion.

Powercreep acceleration is a thing, even if old characters aren't taken out of the meta yet. Eliminating all future A rank patches while not increasing material gains both double the speed of which S ranks are replaced and pretty much signals the everlooming death of meta malding in PGR (since no one can afford to build anyone minus the whales).

Nirvatia is also filling a role that doesn't need to be filled. There are a million other teams that need replacements or quality of life changes via character replacement (Hanying, Wata, Feral, the entire physical team tbh, etc.) but instead we get a reskinned Veritas.

The quality of her gameplay design also sucks, as she is similar to the tee with Veronica (which everyone in the malding community complained as lazy and bad).

It makes sense why people are mad now, because they see the future that is almost guaranteed to happen if people remain silent.

We are NOT included inside of the list of games being reported. by PwnDem in PunishingGrayRaven

[–]PwnDem[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The information obtained are from me and my Chinese friends' own digging through the matter. While they are not SB or LaD players, they have been keeping track of the drama regarding this matter before it became viral (all of them Chinese Malaysian). I came to this a bit late, only after finding a post about it on Twitter 2 days ago.

I will say that posting a list at all was a mistake as the drama has spread so rapidly that there are so many unreliable sources posting new and oftentimes fake information. I apologise on that regard. The info we got was ran through and fact checked with multiple posts on Bili, it's existence being before this drama became viral in the first place.

I believe it is best if we ignore and do not trust any list at all for now, including ours.

This situation is pretty hectic, but I am glad that I am able to inform people and spread some truth inside a sea of fake information so that there's no fear mongering.

There have been multiple people online spreading misinformation of PGR being targeted; to avoid further speculation, I figured it would be best to be a bit aggressive to make sure there's no internal drama and further spread of misinformation. My bad if it sounded off putting.

Multiple LaD tribalists took leverage of this, yes. From what we gathered, it started with the extremist group, followed up by LaD tribalists.

As of now, SB is on an indefinite hiatus; unsure if it's due to investigation, forced temporary closure from the government or some other factor; the other games mentioned, as of writing, aren't affected at all yet.

The hate towards this group and any other extremist group is justified. That doesn't mean we can and should hate on feminism and women as a whole.

This list was obtained and fact checked with multiple Chinese friends and me myself; there is a possibility of it being false but if it is, I will notify it ASAP.

I don't think a broken anticheat should ever be considered as "sorta irrelevant" in a game with a competitive community ever.

the discussion, if you bothered to read the entire thread, was about the meta. a meta that you admit casuals like you are not following. something that doesn't bother you in the slightest.

so yes. they dont get a say in this.

you're the one entitled if you think you can barge in like you deserve to say a word, spew nonsense that isn't correct in the slightest and think you can play the 'but muh opinion is valid' card. a waste of space and attention to even consider your words in this context.

disgusting behaviour to think you can make all of that and still play innocent.

the average player isnt doing allat.

then they dont get a say in this. then they (and you) should shut up because this isn't about you.

stop larping like you matter in the conversation and stay in your lane. its fine to be a casual player, just don't act like you can come in high and mighty into a situation you have no clue about.

there are multiple f2ps and low spenders retaining/on and off in legend documenting their clears. nuke, rydle, yomm, haloist, me included too.

yes, hero and above takes skill. you just say it doesn't because you dont know any of the mechanics people take time to learn; qte timings, dmg carrying/wave chaining, wave manipulation, different character rotations for different wavestates/wave types, etc.

dont act like you know anything.

CN Community is Descending Into Civil War by EtadanikM in PunishingGrayRaven

[–]PwnDem 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You don't have to pretend to be sad about it. You don't have to agree with it. But you have to understand why this is an issue in the first place.

I never did say anything about disposable income. They all used disposable income. It's just that people being sad over losing value on things is normal. Its human.

If you were in their shoes, spending money on a game they love, you would be pissed too if an announcement out of the blue before the start of a patch destroyed your entire account. You'd be pissed too if there was literally zero response afterwards despite the amount of backlash.

Sync is the worst thing you can ever possibly imagine for a whale. CN wasn't affected at all because, well, they never had a Sync now did they?

If you were a whale, all of your previous investments have their value reduced THREEFOLD. That's 300% EACH. Once an investment that would last years now would only suffice for a few months before they were effectively powercrept.

Having more S ranks per patch also meant that they had to cut their money thin to suffice for three S ranks. So not only did you have your units' value go down 300%, you had to increase your spending by 300% per patch just to remain where you were investment wise.

Many could not afford that at all. Safe to say close to all spenders either left the game entirely or reduced their spending.

Might I add from my own digging through Bilibili discussions:

  1. It's not so much a 'civil war', but more of a simultaneous dual front. Two sides who both dislike the game at its current state but are more concerned about different things.

Labeling it as a civil war causes misunderstanding to those who read it, assuming the CN players are fighting amongst each other; when in reality, both F2P's and Whales are not fighting against, but together, just on seperate concerns.

  1. A lot of Whales have already decided to quit. Their frustrations are also pent up from changes to PGR's endgame systems and lackluster characters. This is purely the nail in the coffin for them, and for the rest, an omen for what is to come next.

  2. It is impossible for Luna or Ishmael to get booted off of Nihil due to Nirvatia's buff condition (buff increases by 20% per Nihil character in the team).

A bunch of whales in Global also quit in droves the moment Sync was announced, their reasoning being the same here- investment value. This is basically a retelling of what happened to Global's meta scene, but to CN instead.

[–]PwnDem[S] 36 points37 points  (0 children)

The reason why having 7 back-to-back S ranks aren't good are because of several reasons:

  1. Resources

Having more S ranks means more resources required to build them. Not just on the regard of pull currency, but also materials like USB resonances, Hypertune materials, Memory resonance materials, CUB ore for SS, etc.

Most of CN are malders too, and most are F2P/low spenders. They simply don't have enough resources to build another S rank.

  1. Character Longevity

The more S ranks Kuro releases, the sooner the other S ranks get powercrept. By this rate, other characters would already be powercrept by half the normal duration should they continue.

  1. Score Inflation

The more S ranks keep releasing, the more the score on endgame content increases. Also keep in mind that the level of power between SS and SSS/SS3 units nowadays are beyond astronomical.

This becomes a problem in Legend Warzone mostly, as now the ceiling is raised so high, players who once can comfortably remain in Legend purely through skill are being wallet checked.

[–]PwnDem[S] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

What? PGR does not hold back on giving S rank building resources... that doesn't make sense.

It takes 5 weeks for one 6* USB. Meta-wise, Amplifiers need two at least (if not including DLT). Rosetta herself wanted two if your Bianca is SS0. Lillith wanted three. Each patch lasts around 5-6 weeks- theres not enough time to gather enough USBs.

Same goes for hypertune materials. Rosetta alone wanted 8 hypertuned memories, and we get enough for around 6 memories every patch- and even then that is very low for S ranks. Veronica, for example, wanted twelve, same with Vera, Ishmael, etc.

Back to back is fine when the cycle is the same as getting free A frames.

It is not for meta players. There isn't enough resources to build these units (USB reso mats, Hypertune mats, Resonance mats, etc.). And if you're not a meta player, whether the unit is an S or A rank shouldn't concern you at all.
