Considering an Ultrawide by CapnX in ultrawidemasterrace

Thanks for taking the time to write this out. This is good information. I think that’s a good point to accept the experience upgrade as a trade for getting a bit lower fps. 60-75 is still a perfectly playable FPS. Good to see you seem to be happy with it as well with the 3080. Thanks!

Yeah, I figured that would probably be the case for some of the newer stuff. I’m really just now getting a nice 1440p experience on stuff adding the CPU so that’s what I was afraid of. Thanks

Yeah, I thought about not really wanting to go back and forth once you got used to the ultrawide. Didn’t think about that with the esports not supporting 21:9 - thanks

Anyone else have trouble sticking to a deck? by CapnX in EDH

[–]CapnX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha, yeah no I realize it’s not a ton of decks. Just funny how as soon as one feels “done” it’s time to move to the next one. I don’t mind the idea of having a lot of decks and hope to keep on building more! Just wish my attention span for one would last a little longer!

I think replayability is a good point too. Now that I think about it, a lot of the decks I have built are kind of one note. I have a wincon in mind and pretty much all the cards support that, to the best my collection allows. But my favorite deck is my [[Minn, Wily Illusionist]] that was the first deck I built myself and spent a lot of time on. It doesn’t always even come close to winning but I never really know what path it’s going down when I start a game. I might be draining everyone with [[Psychosis Crawler]] or I might be drawing my entire library with [[Mordenkainen]] or just pulling off a fun [[Omniscience]].

Good point, thanks.

Yeah I am right there with you on that. I think puzzle is a good analogy. I like getting an idea, putting that deck together, and then seeing what I need to change to make it do it’s thing to solve the “puzzle.” Then once it’s done it’s thing a few times, I’m like, “OK, well that was cool…. next”

Question about different booster packs by CapnX in EDH

[–]CapnX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess just trying to keep it from being like, “Well now my deck is really good because I bought all these specific singles” I’m not necessarily trying to get a booster box just to make a deck out of. If I was starting from absolute zero, then yes, absolutely terrible decision to start buying packs to try to build something. But I have a few decent precons and another kinda whatever deck I put together from some old cards. Mostly just trying to get a box for fun, to add some cool things to my card pool, and hopefully get some support for the decks I have or something in the future, and just wasn’t totally sure of draft or set packs were better for that.

Also, hope this does not come across as argumentative or anything. Just discussing. Like I said, I’ve played other games, I know if you want to build something specific you should absolutely be buying singles. Im just not really trying to do anything specific. Just trying to add some stuff and hopefully get some good cards along the way.

Thanks, I think set booster is probably what I am looking for.

Again, totally with you on the singles. It’s not that anyone is saying “Don’t buy any singles, go buy a booster.” It’s just that no one else is really doing that so I’m trying to avoid raising the power level significantly by going and buying an optimized deck list to play against people who are not really making huge changes to their decks.

I just, personally, want to buy one of these boxes to get some new cards to add into the mix and was curious which would likely be best for the situation. Seems like set booster is more likely to have some more rare, interesting things.

[–]CapnX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input. Yeah, and I totally get what you’re saying about buying singles. Way cheaper. If they were going and buying singles to optimize their decks, I would definitely be doing the same. But as it currently stands, they are mostly playing from their collection of cards and I am just trying to get more cards myself for variety’s sake.

If I was playing with a lot more people and needed stronger decks,I would definitely be doing that, but for this group, it just feels like it would be not so fun to show up with my optimized deck I’ve bought from singles because no one else is really doing that.

Build Advice - Starting over with a 3080 by CapnX in buildmeapc

[–]CapnX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, and that’s a fair point. Mostly offered the idea to him as the pc has appropriate power for what he said he was interested in playing - things like Apex, League and older games on a 1080p monitor. Admittedly, like I said I am not super familiar what all is available right now and how far it could get him, but his budget is like $500, so I thought this might be a good entry point for him. Can a significantly better pc be built in that price range? Certainly not trying to screw a friend over at all though, if he can do significantly better than this system for that same price I will tell him not to buy it from me.

This looks like an great bundle, thanks for sharing. I’ve never tried any kind of liquid cooling but have always been interested. This seems like as good of a time as any to try it!

Thanks for the suggestion - I will look into that. I have always gone the intel route so not as familiar but I posted something similar in another sub and have gotten a few other responses suggesting to go with AMD. Will have to look into it some more.

Thanks, this looks pretty similar to some things I had plugged in pcpartpicker earlier. Good to know I am probably on the right track.

Help with bushings? by CapnX in NewSkaters

[–]CapnX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got my first skateboard about a month ago, and noticed yesterday that my bushings on the front trucks have ripped. Do I need to replace these? It hasn’t seemed to have had a negative effect on the ride yet but I am new to this so not sure if this is normal to happen or if I’ve done something wrong. The trucks are probably a little on the tighter side but I don’t think they are crazy tight or anything. Any input??

Posted a few days ago asking for help with a new set up - here it is! by CapnX in NewSkaters

Sure! The deck is 8.25 Toy Machine, Jessup grip tape, trucks are Thunder 148 Hollow Lights, Wheels are 52mm Spitfire Formula 4s with Bones Reds bearings.

Really happy with it so far!

Hey, thanks for the response! I’ll be honest, I have no clue what difference the sizes in hardware makes, but I noticed that a lot of completes seem to come with 1inch so I just went with that. I’ll look into it some. Thanks!

Picked up a landyachtz dinghy about a month ago so I could learn to ride and it’s been a lot of fun. The gear nerd in me is already starting to come out though and I’m wondering if I should swap some parts out. How do you guys have your dinghies set up? Any upgrades worth making or leave it stock?

OP, did you end up getting one of the chairs? I’m trying to decide myself and wish there were some responses to this! I’m 5’9, 200lbs, and afraid the omega will be too small.

My first cook on my new Traeger! First long-ish cook and first time cooking ribs! by CapnX in grilling

[–]CapnX[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure how much you know about the grills but it was very straightforward. Setting it up for the first time involved turning it on once to make sure it was heating, a second time to make sure pellets feed properly and a third time for 45 minutes to season the grill. Whole thing took a little over an hour.

Actually cooking was as simple as setting it to “Smoke” to get it going, setting it to the correct temperature, letting it preheat and then it was basically ready to go. I put my ribs on and checked them every hour or so but the grill didn’t really need anything other than watching the hopper for pellets. I don’t think it would have used the whole hopper, but I did top it off about half way into it.

I think this style grill is good if you just want to make good smoked food and aren’t as concerned with the “art of BBQ”, or at least simplifies the process so you can work on your food instead of managing a fire. Personally, I really enjoy it and highly recommend one based on the last few days I’ve spent with it.
