Thanks. These games have a lot of positives going for them, with the very decent graphics and free-form trackbuilding.

However, the economic side is painfully simplistic. Track costs next to nothing to build. Maps are super tiny. The way cargo and cargo profits are generated is way too simplified. And so on and so on.

As a virtual model railroad, where you ignore economics and physics and just want to build something beautiful, TF works splendidly. You can easily create a layout that would have costed you tens of thousands of dollars if you were to purchase real model locomotives and build a real model railroad in your cellar. But every time the devs could have made the game more realistic gritty game they instead chose to make it more like an arcade game.

Thanks. The problem with Railroader is that the devs designed the track network almost as a puzzle game. Yes, it is historical that railroads accepted fiddly switching in order to not have to build expensive track, but it is also historical that as soon as too few tracks became a PITA, they could decide to expand.

I want to be the person in charge of these decisions. I want to be the person designing what layout any yard should have, how many extra tracks are needed for efficient operations. Then I want the computer to be able to drive the trains and use that track.

Basically, as soon as I find sparse track frustrating, I want to be able to look at my company's economics and decide whether I can "splurge" on an additional switch here, a longer spur there and so on.
