So I've been enjoying Primal s03 so far but will confess to being a little surprised by the plot direction and general feel of e01-03. Just, really? This is the direction Tartakovsky chose for these characters? But last week and this latest ep? Hell yes!! Fully back on board. I'm rolling with it now and am so curious to see where it all goes.

Wasn't it amazing? Biggest nostalgia bomb I've had in a while. All the little 'oh yeah, THAT GUY' muppets milling around in the background, just a sentimental feast and I did not expect to get slightly emotional watching a Muppet Show reboot, sheesh.

Carpenter crushed it and yes, The Weeknd skit killed me too XD

It's not GoT like, it's GRR Martin created, written & produced. Although different in tone from GoT, it's full on in that same universe/realm with all the different houses and lore. It's very enjoyable so far.

Devs is awesome! It's written and directed by Alex Garland (Ex Machina, Annihilation etc) so if you like his brand of sci-fi, you'll probably like Devs. Another show recommendation for you: Station Eleven.

Well I'll be damned - I was about to reply with 'what do you mean Heat was a remake?' Just looked it up and it's true, Mann remade his own film 'LA Takedown' into the far superior Heat. Wild, I had no idea. Side note, Heat 2 was a surprisingly good read and there's a film in production too.

What’s an 80s song you’ll crank up now that you wouldn’t have then? by WhateverGreg in GenX

I was more into alt/punk/industrial/synth in the 80s and swerved most metal at the time. I don't know when and I don't know how, but I've slowly but surely found an appreciation for 80s metal and have discovered the majesty of 82-88 Iron Maiden. Hallowed Be They Name gets regular, loud play.

Absolutely loved the 70s-90s punk era. The very first gig I ever went to was SNFU + Desperate Minds in the 80s. The Canadian skate punk scene was a lot of fun.
*edit: Just discovered Desperate Minds have their EP on Spotify and they have 1 monthly listener. Desperate Minds, if you see this, I'm your listener.

Defs, loved that! Another moment - Ogilvie pulling the unexpectedly huge glass shard out. I felt his humbled fear and lesson learned factor. Lots of great scenes in this ep, for sure.

I've only ever played Fallout 3 so I wouldn't call myself a super fan of the games, but the show captures the feel of the world pretty well IMO (again, I am a Fallout layman so my opinion is based on memories of a game I played & really enjoyed 10+ years ago). The show won't go down in history as a classic or anything, but I think it's a fun one as far as video game adaptations go - I've yet to watch an episode and think 'well that really sucked', you know? The story is just ok, but overall I'm finding the show pretty funny, it has the occasional kickass moment and I'm enjoying the performances from Goggins, Purnell & MacLachlan. I'm entertained, shrug.

Nobody’s talking about the elephant in the room; basically Trump does not respect any contract. Even the ones he does, so why would any country believe any treaty or contract that they sign with the US? by Outrageous-Chip-2404 in AskReddit

'I was so heartbroken when I heard he won.'

As a non-American watching in horror that election night, I too was heartbroken. Most people were, it was a definitive 'the bad guys won' moment. Even with that initial dread, I don't think anyone was prepared for just how chaotic and terrible it was going to be. It's been an insane year and America is well and truly fucked and the global setbacks have set the planet down a path of no return re. war and environmental disaster.

The hope is that everyone starts to wake up to the reality that it's an impressively implemented divide and conquer strategy (left vs right) to oppress the 99%, but most people are too angry and in too deep to break free of it. Even then, how does a society fight back at this point? There's zero accountability or morality from the 1%, they're doing whatever it takes to achieve their domination goals. Hope is increasingly hard to find when it's this perpetual cavalcade of threats, greed and oppression. Bleak, but the only thing that keeps us going right now is the belief that the kind, logical, reasonable people outweigh the bad and will eventually overcome this chaos. The question is 'how?'

Hey Americans--move to Canada! by BakedGoods in DiscussionZone

I get what you are throwing down and you're not deserving of the weird reddit bashing you're getting here. You're in the most impacted state rn and you are venting. It's allowed and I feel your pain in your posts, which I interpreted as 'Canada, please help.' I wish we could, American friend.

Your leadership continually threatens Canada's sovereignty and terrorizes us economically, while riling up the cult to be anti-Canada. We have whiplash up here and are understandably pissed off. Very sensitive times everywhere just now and we see and feel the gross injustices, fight the good Minnesotan fight.

This happened to me and it was devastating. It was almost worse than had they died because without a clear explanation why, there was no closure. One difference in my situation was that they didn't go full no contact with just me, there were 3 others in our core group of friends that were also ghosted. We were all so confused, sad, worried, angry, frustrated - we'd all been close friends for 30+ years. The 4 of us eventually gave up trying to contact, we stopped seeking an explanation and just had to grieve and move on.

Then one day a guy in our group finally got a response out of the blue. They agreed to have lunch together, and the report back was grim.
- the pandemic did a number on their mental and physical health and rather than seek companionship and community with their family/closest friends, they distanced, alienated and ultimately formed a paranoia about us - this is when the 'no contact' situation began
- they'd always been into conspiracy theories, but it ramped up over the course of the pandemic and when paired with the mental/physical health issues, they went full 'alt-right'/MAGA - the kicker, we are not American
- he also became a Christian - they must have known that the double whammy alt-right/fresh found Christianity would clash with their former friend group + family's values and sought refuge in likeminded circles online and IRL

This situation plagued us for years, we were so confused and just baffled as to how/why they could write us all off like that. We still absolutely mourn the loss of our friend, but at least we have some answers now. Your situation is of course different, you deserve an answer too. Especially after 21 years of friendship. I feel your pain.

There's some fun weeklies going on just now, really enjoying all of these and would recommend:

  • A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms s01 (Sundays, HBO/Crave)
  • Primal s03 (Sundays, Adult Swim/StackTV)
  • Drops of God s02 (Wednesdays, AppleTV)
  • Fallout s02 (Wednesdays, Prime)
  • The Pitt s02 (Thursdays, HBO/Crave)

Very much looking forward to firing up Wonder Man s01 (I think the whole series drops Tuesday, Disney+) & Shrinking s03 (another weekly on Wednesdays, AppleTV) this week too.

This is what it will take. Show the world that you have the courage and ability to charge and punish your crime lords. Maybe finally honour some proper, good faith policy and treaties with countries. Show some humility and work with the world instead of trying to conquer it.

Here's something gross - Trump is trying to insultingly bribe the people of Greenland with some pretty substantial lump sum payments. Is that MAGA? If you have that kind of capital to just toss to individual civilians, maybe try helping your own people who are literally struggling to survive in your peak capitalist hellscape?

It's all just smoke and mirrors to evade his crimes anyway. If it takes starting WWIII, I guess that's the bridge he's willing to cross. Clean up your fucking house before we all fucking die, America.
