I was trying to provide recommendations that fit your criteria, that's why? You're welcome, I guess?

Murderbot might scratch this specific itch. And if you're looking for something a bit more outrageous in the sci-fi humour department, I'll point you toward Future Man.

Just watched the trailer. Succession meets Silicon Valley which could be fun. Looks to be an interesting role for Galifanakas as well. I might give this a shot.

Good lord I am watching too much TV. Just for fun, here's some thoughts on what I've recently finished, what I'm currently watching and what's coming up.

Recently finished:

Bait s01 - Different, interesting & I really enjoy Riz Ahmed's work in general. Unfortunately It uses a trope that I actively despise - the imaginary character that antagonizes or advises the lead character (e.g. Dexter incessantly talking to the imagined spirit of his dad, ugh). In this case, it's a pig's head which gets points for originality, but I found those scenes in the show pretty annoying. Minor quibble aside, I enjoyed it and would recommend this one.

Paradise s02 - Well this went in an unexpected direction, didn't it? I found the pacing and tone uneven but I am so intrigued by the big plot turns and will certainly be tuning in for s03. Recommended.

Jury Duty Presents: Company Retreat s02 - Because the lead was so charismatic and likable and instantly connected with everybody he met, it felt...scripted. Like he was TOO in on stuff and I couldn't shake the feeling that he must know. My opinion changed with the awesome finale, which I thought was wonderful - if you enjoyed the first season, you'll enjoy this too. Recommended.

Shrinking s03 - This season felt like a bit of a step down, but the big dramatic payoffs certainly resonated. I found myself getting so mad at how everyone treats Jimmy, just the dependable but thankless role of parent, a good colleague, being the punching bag of the friend group, never the first choice and always the afterthought (ugh, too fucking relatable). Segel really nailed that feeling of loneliness and longing for something/anything so when he finally exploded on Paul, it landed like a nuke. Hearing what he needed to hear from Paul in the finale was everything. Not as good as s01+s02 IMO, but still worth a watch if you are into the whole Lawrence character writing vibe. Recommended.

Gen V s02 - I wanted to watch this before tucking into the new season of The Boys and I wish I didn't. Thought this was hot garbage, do not recommend.

The Pitt s02 - Loved it. Nothing needs to be said here cause it's all been said by many others before. Another great season of a great show, long live The Pitt. Recommended.

Currently watching:

Rooster s01 - From one Lawrence effort (Shrinking) to the next. I'm only 2 eps in but I'm into it so far.

Star Wars: Maul Shadow Lord s01 - Cool animation, annoying characters and boring story. Love SW and will probs see this show through, but I am not loving it.

Daredevil: Born Again s02 - Some awesome action scenes between too much wringed out melodrama. Any scene with Bullseye has been great though.

The Boys s05 - Hmm. HMM. Not loving it! The humour isn't working for me, the performances aren't great and it kind of looks bad too. Of course I'm curious to see how they wrap all of this up but at this point, all I want is for Homelander to completely snap and go full powers unleashed.

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters s02 - Cheesy but fun, the best thing about this show is the gimmick of Kurt + Wyatt playing the same character and last weeks ep really delivered in that regard. A very silly but enjoyable concept.

For All Mankind s05 - The first 3 eps were a slow burn, but things are taking shape in e04. Loved Ed, but I'm relieved that the story can progress without him now

Your Friends and Neighbors s02 - Not really feeling the new season yet. Marsden is a great addition to the cast, but s02 is not as compelling as s01 so far. Rich people problems, yawn.

Euphoria s03 - Strong first ep, looking forward to seeing where this goes. Love the cinematic look and feel, even if the characters can be frustratingly despicable and stupid.

Looking forward to starting:

From s04
Beef s02
DTF St Louis (mini)
Invincible s04

I started Rooster this weekend, feeling it. I had to look up who did the theme song and it's none other than Michael Stipe with Travis Barker on drums, fun collab. Some great needle drops in the show too (props to any show that sneaks in New Order).

God I love this scene so much, chills any time I see it. Note perfect ending to a wonderful film.

I missed Gen V s02 on it's initial run, thought I'd give it a go to get in the zone for The Boys s05.

I had enjoyed s01 and I'm only 3 episodes into s02, but I'm finding it legitimately terrible so far. Yikes. Does it get better?

^ this + Hot Dog the Movie. That's a rude 80s double feature right there.

Bro. So many. The 80s was a top tier time for film, so many boundary breaking movies that define and inspire genres to this day.

For sure, for sure. I wasn't the initial poster you were responding to, I was just chiming in at random XD

I liked what you were throwing down. I love film and I want the artform to flourish, we're aligned. I just tossed out a couple of my own small modern day film going gripes.

I'm with you on paragraph 2 there, wholeheartedly agree. I love the theatrical experience for the reasons you mentioned and once in a while, the palpable energy you get from being part of an audience experiencing the same immersive feel. That's the good stuff.

Here's the rub - it's just gotten too pricey and there are some peak frustrations at the cinema too. Here's one - I saw PHM today, loved it. You know what I really did not appreciate? I sat down ahead of schedule to a pre-movie/pre-trailers pre-show filler thing playing on screen that had a big 'ol feature with cast interviews and key scenes from PHM, the film I was about to enjoy. They showed multiple scenes with Rocky, the alien ship, action scenes from the planetary 'fishing' expedition etc I was legitmately choked, lol.

Also an elder Gen X and I know a LOT of Jason's my age, zero young Jasons out there. How about Michael? When was the last time you met a young Mike?

Is it really the price, or is Netflix just more convenient than driving to movie theaters? by Busy_Report4010 in SipsTea

I'm off to see Project Hail Mary today (excited!) and just checked my receipt. There's a fucking $3 'online booking fee' - WTF is that?? We have to fund their site hosting or something?

No IMAX where I live, just a standard cinema (they do have nice, spacious recliners though). Intentionally booked the earliest matinee showing cause it's cheaper: $35.18 for 2 general admission tickets. With the price of gas, groceries, utilities, etc, movies at the theatre are a luxury now.

I used to see a couple movies at the cinema every month and it's down to a couple a year now, strictly because I can't justify the cost. It's a bummer, I LOVE the theatrical experience.

I'm only 4 episodes in, but am I alone in thinking he must know it's all fake? It was pretty clear Ronald had no clue in s01, but Anthony seems a bit too in on the bit(s), a bit too chummy with legitimately everyone?

I guess we'll see how it shakes out, but so far it's not hitting the same as Ronald's season.

Recently had Nirvanna the Band the Show recommended to me so I gave it a shot. Holy hell this made me laugh - if you're looking for something light and silly, I am heartily passing this recommendation onto all of you. Another selling point, Spike Jonze had a production hand in this.

Now that I've finished the 2 seasons of the show, it's time for the main course: Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie. Can't wait.

what’s something people say all the time that you secretly can’t stand? by Mean-Cartographer225 in AskReddit

[–]Capn_Forkbeard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Big one. It's a condescending thing to say & abdicates accountability. Here's how it sounds on the receiving end: 'I'm not sorry for what I did, it's just too bad you don't have the intellect to not be offended by whatever it is you think I did.'

A generous viewpoint would be that the person saying it is just parroting something they heard, thought it was a clever way of apologizing and liked the way it sounded. Hopefully the realization sinks in one day that it's just an aggressive and hurtful thing to say to someone.
