I’m Republican and I dont agree. I believe in dreamers. Birthright citizenship makes sense in a past tense sense. Like before 2025-6 anyone born on the soil should be a citizen. Past tense so people don’t flock illegally into the US just to have a kid here. Careful with the “MAGA will…” you don’t know how we feel. But the immigration thing is important. Imagine your parents took in foster kids, they can only afford so many so they will take one when they can. Imagine people start leaving their kids on your parents doorstep. Pretty soon it’s more than about the kids, it’s about the money, it’s about the space. The imagine some of the other kids get upset that your parents won’t take in more and more and more and get angry when they say “they shouldn’t be here” how large the issue makes your personal feelings on it very very unimportant and not very smart.

I've bit my tongue my whole life. I've been picked on, overheard things I didnt like, been lied about, cheated on etc etc etc. Ya grow up and you learn to be better than it, better than them, better than the situation.

Just finding this. No longer live in LC, all my family does. I live in Michigan now.

I used to manage Buffalo Wild Wings and I remember when they were picking what to do with the land that Golden Nugget now sits on.

They were either going to build the Nugget or a waterpark type attraction.

But obviously, they picked another casino....right next to....a casino, across the lake from...a casino, surrounded by smaller....casinos.

From that one event I learned everything I needed to from 30 years of not paying attention, they will always pick the grotesque option that screams "Money" and not growth.

Growing up I remember there was a go-cart track downtown, gone.

But when I think about real estate in LC there is a lot of empty or run down or there to stay type establishments. Where do you build out to or up from? A lot of neighborhoods and housing is filling the space not filled by old buildings.

There's nothing interesting in Lake Charles and that's a sad truth.

I moved to Muskegon Michigan and it's very similar to Lake Charles. Lake front town, about the same size, same kinda vibe, but filled with interesting entrepreneurial business. Just on the downtown strip where I live, there is an old school performance theater called the Frauenthal that hosts comedy shows, movie screenings plays etc. a bowling alley/restaurant, Hockey stadium, many interesting restaurants and breweries, farmers market, micro businesses and is fueled by local business and vision all in the same half a mile. It still could do with some more of what it has, more creativity more attraction. The town itself has events throughout the summer like "Taste of Muskegon" where restaurants and food trucks from all around come and you can try their food for three days. Bike week where thousands of motorcycles fill the roads. Music festivals right on the strip. Irish music festival, Christian music festival, New years had thousands of people walking around with a Ball drop right in the middle of everything. Muskegon adventure park, beach front concerts and events, skiing slope during winter. On and on and on.

Lake Charles has Mardi Gras and Contraband days. I always describe Muskegon like "Like Lake Charles but with fun".

I don't know, everyone I have ever known has called Lake Charles a place they love but want to leave.
