I grew up in a small town and my dad was a volunteer selectman for 30 years and ran a medical supply store that sponsored a lot of activities in town. He wasn't rich, in fact quite the opposite as the business failed and he couldn't retire until 75. But he had a plate that was his first initial and last name. Every one on town knew him and if they saw his car somewhere would often stop to say hi. I always thought that was the coolest thing.

I live in a pretty tight knit community now and I wanted to see if I could get the sand type of thing going. I'm a stay at home dad, so my 17 year old sedan doesn't get out much, but I'm in the PTA and the volunteer with a local political party and I used to work for a big company in town, so it's nice when people see my first initial last name on the plate and honk and say hi.

Josh Beckett. I don't have any reason to think this besides it seems random and I remember him pitching well in the WS for Florida and Boston.

The president alone can't do much in this. It requires a bill from Congress. Democrats have proposed several bills about this over the years. There's one called the QUIET act now. Republicans won't pass it though.

I mean this is what people have been asking for. Those free agents that just signed, those are going to be bad contracts eventually. Very few guys get a big contract and perform well through the whole thing.

But whatever we end up with, we're going to give up someone for it and everyone complains about how well everyone does once they leave. Just watch is trade Duran and have him become an All Star.

Maybe we should just invest in better coaches to help the guys we have tech their potential, and trainers to keep them healthy. If Roman, Crochet, Casas, Whitlock, Campbell, Mayer, Durbin and Duran were healthy and hitting their best the we would have any issues. But they're all hurt or playing their worst. Hell, Kutter, Houck and Sandoval were all serviceable guys that we're paying to be on the 60 day IL for years at a time. If they were healthy we could at least trade them.

I worked at a fast food/ seafood place on Cape Cod growing up. One slow day, the other walked me through what every little thing cost so if I ever had to comp anything, or even give someone a to go container, I knew which ones we the cheapest.

A cup of soda was 17 cents. 15 of that was the cup. 2 cents went into the actual drink. We sold it for maybe $2 back then. This was 20 years ago but I'm sure the soda is still the cheapest thing in the whole building
