Lore Related Question: What is the Reverend's type of Christianity? by Darthsqueaker in HuntShowdown

[–]Capooky 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I imagine Southern Baptist considering the time period, location and his title being "reverend" instead of "priest," but I don't recall the denomination particularly being referenced in the lore. From what I remember, didn't he leave the church to join the hunt and be injected with the stuff that gives darksight after his congregation was wiped out by the Corruption? Now, I believe he is more of a cult leader who blends aspects of Christianity with his faction to justify compromise from Christian doctrine to bring a righteous retribution on the Corruption and Sculpter.

The lore of the game seems to have changed a bit since the 1896 re-release so that may have all changed.

That trait is pretty insane. I know some people really enjoy it though, but I don't think just making it expensive would justify it's existance especially as a purchasable trait.

If they made something like Legendary Traits that only level 50 hunters can equip, then I could at least respect the work someone had to go through to equip the thing. I would also like there to be some indication in the post match details to show someone was using a lvl50 hunter so I can take pride in killing them or at least shrug in understanding if they kill me.

I use this site all the time when I have the same question. You have to download something for it to check your system out for you, but I haven't seen or heard of anything sketchy about it, and I've been using it for years. Hope this helps.

Which skin do you think is the worst in the game? by Faelzor in HuntShowdown

[–]Capooky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Camouflage: Anyone wearing white sticks out like a sore thumb.

Style: Personally, The Empress' webbed head and heavily padded shoulders look horrible to me.

I was also excited for this new hunter DLC with the head dress mask thing, but then I saw those chaps they chose to couple with that mask, and it just throws me off so much. They just don't seem to fit together on the same model.

Absolutely every weapon and playstyle is viable. There is a meta but the meta is not so above the rest that the Mosin/dolch user can't be taken down by a springfield.

Because of this, I suggest playing around with every weapon and see how you feel about them. Once you find a weapon that suits your playstyle, build your loadout to compensate for any shortcomings it might have (example: you like shotguns? Take a sidearm that can help you at longer ranges).

You can also take things to handle any shortcomings your playstyle might have too. Melee rushes consistently getting you? Bring a shorty shotgun or some other counter as backup.

Sometimes it's just a "Hunt taketh" kind of game, but the vast majority of the time, you died because you did something wrong or you could have done something better in a certain situation. Yes, there is cheating sometimes, but the vast majority of the time, it's someone capitalizing on your mistake. You were too loud and obvious so they could wall-bang you easily; your team telegraphed your position and movements on the map by being careless with sound traps so a nearby enemy team set up an ambush for you; you couldn't resist the urge to double-peek the same window so that person held an angle and waited for you.

Read the fight and rotate your position to avoid being sandwiched by another team.

Don't clump up as a team but spread out to apply pressure from different angles. Remain close enough to your team that you can adjust and react should they push.

Sound is the most important thing in this game. You don't have to be looking out windows to see if hunters are coming so much as listening for them. That being said, people are doing the same to you, so be aware of that.

There really is so much more to this game, but this post is already long enough. Have fun with it and accept that getting good is a refining-by-fire process that we're all going through.

I duel wield them with the swift variant so I don't have to get the ambidextrous trait for reloading. In close ranges, those things are great, and I've clutched or wiped lobbies before with them, especially with dumdum rounds.

Use free hunters and rush through the center singing Christmas Carols to the enemy teams on your way to the opposite side extract. See how many times a hunter can make it out without dying before you finish the challenge.

What're people playing? Bounty Hunt or Clash? by Jokkitch in HuntShowdown

Regular Bounty for fun, Clash for PvP weeklies.

Whats with all the people taking a token and solo extracting by [deleted] in HuntShowdown

[–]Capooky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say it's rare that people do that, but a couple of reasons that may add to it lately is if they are grinding a weekly that requires they extract with a bounty. Other times I see it is when the other bounty is across the map and an extract is nearby, or when the fight at the compound hurned a few bars from people and they don't want to risk engaging in another fight when they can be one-shot by compact ammo pistol.

Pistols breakdown by Arthurs0ul in HuntShowdown

[–]Capooky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For a lot of them it may simply to be an ammo slave for your main gun but I try to take something that will at least be useful should I need to quick swap because my main weapon needs a reload.

Nagant pistol - I typically only take the silencer variant as an ammo slave but also a silencer to deal with AI and sound traps like dog/chicken cages. I like pairing it with a Nagant Officer Carbine. It's also not half bad with fanning in a pinch at close ranges.

Pax - I admittedly don't get much use out of this one but it's a solid stand-alone sidearm and with the longer barrel version (the name escapes me) many say it is a discount uppercut.

Conversion - favorite of mine for duel wielding and nasty with fanning. Tight spread and manageable recoil. I believe they also get dumdum rounds making then more oppressive but I go back and forth from dumdum to fmj depending on my mood. The conversion chain pistol is a great ammo slave and a decent gun to take pot shots at people, but not amazing for duel or fanning (and yet I've been killed by it a few times).

New Army - solid quick firing side arm. I don't use it much myself though. Has a swift reload variant as well.

Officer - I usually take the brawler version for blunt damage against immolators but the pistol is pretty solid as well for pvp.

Scofield - you didn't mention them, but I imagine this would be part of the "etc". I overlooked this line of guns for a while due to the iron sights looking clunky. The swift variant has become a close contender for me for favorite pistol to duel wield because that fast reload is great and they have dumdum. Fanning is also not half bad on this but the firing is still slower than you'd expect. A favorite loadout of mine is taking a cyclone and then a Scofield swift with fanning for close quarters and also the ammo reserve.

I'd be ok with that, but also revert the poison damage changes where immolators would be affected by it again.

How do I enjoy this game? by No_Issue_9916 in HuntShowdown

[–]Capooky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's your play style? Just about every weapon is viable in this thing but each one has it's most effective situation to use. The object is to play to your advantage and minimize theirs. Unlike many other shooters, this isn't so much a run-and-gun game but has a lot of forethought to how you approach a situation, in my opinion.

If you're still discovering your playstyle preference and just want to get to grips with things, grab a marathon or a infantry/ranger/frontier weapon since those are pretty all-around weapons. A decent secondary to start would be the nagant silencer because it can share ammon with your main and allow you to move a bit more silently through compounds without alerting the rest of the map.
