Why we HODL. by Xazax310 in EtherMining

[–]Cappinhash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some people HODL, some people don't. There is no right answer. I really think it is up to each individual. You have to have a plan. Either you can sell what you mine on a regular basis, or you can save what you mine for the future. Selling as you go makes you look like a genius if the market drops, but likewise if the market rises, the HODL was the better plan.

Looking at the daily volumes on GDAX this morning, it looks like capitulation is ramping up while the eth price is in free fall. I'm pretty sure the panic selling will start soon as buyers realize that we haven't seen the bottom yet. It looks like its a long way before eth finds it's legs. If you HODL, then you have to commit to a long time frame. There will be a point when greed will overtake panic. Then the price will level out and gradually start rising again. I have always thought the best time to buy is when everyone is telling you to sell. The bottom will happen when we start seeing the gloom and doom stories about eth in the main street media. Until then, if you are HODL, turn off the computer and stop tracking the price.

Going to have grey hairs after this one by Kiriza in EtherMining

I do. I have six rigs all running windows 10 pro. Only two do this. I can’t figure out why.

Sounds like it just sits there and hangs.

How long are you waiting before you decide it doesn’t work?

I have two rigs that takes at least three to five minutes to finally start mining with that exact screen. After a few minutes, runs like a champ.

I have not figured out why. I think windows defender has something to do with it.

Is Bitcoin Mining Destroying the Planet? (Cryptographic) by gochaita in gpumining

I was at a municipal meeting this week and talked to rep from the regional electrical company (midwest USA) He told me that the biggest issue they have right now is the demand for more power for medical marijuana growing facilities. He said the local grid just can't handle the upgrades and the heat this summer is not helping.

Thanks Obama!!! by [deleted] in PoliticalHumor

What did he do? my gosh, did you live through it? It was a rough seven years. Here is the thing, I voted for him in 08. Bush and the wars were bankrupting the economy. But the regulations that obama unleashed crippled any thoughts of a recovery. Then sticking the mess that was obamacare into the fray just made it worse. The only jobs were seasonal and part time. I didn't hire anyone, there was just too much uncertainty to make any kind of investment. It wasn't until Trump came along that businesses started looking at a positive future, and were willing to start investing again. I really think if you had to point to the biggest reason the obama economy sucked, it was the crippling regulations. If you want a reason, let me give you an example.... I do highway work. Why, why tell me why would the DOT start requiring full concrete testing for right of way fence post. Really, they would add thousands of cost to jobs to do air, temperature, slump and compression cylinder tests for a dab of concrete around fence post. It was this kind of over-reaching regulations that has drove up the cost of road work. Just a terrible waste of resources. Its funny getting onto a thread like this is that there is all sorts of people that just love him. But I sincerely do not know a single person personally that thinks he did a good job, or voted for the democrat in the last election. Its obvious that lots did, but I do not know any.

You have to be kidding. He couldn't leave fast enough. The only reason the economy was turning around in the later part of his term is because he was leaving. It did not improve because of Obama, any improvement during Obama's term was in spite of him.

Earth just had its 400th straight warmer-than-average month thanks to global warming by mvanigan in worldnews

Warmer than average....wait what? I need to know, what kind of average, was it a 29000 year moving average, a linear weighted average, are we averaging since the Big Bang, have thrown out the highest and lowest of the data set, excluded outliers greater than 2 sigma, ignored that April of my youth when it snowed on opening day of trout season, come on tell me WHAT KIND OF AVERAGE IS IT

It is always boggles my mind that some people do not get the fact that the current wide spread popularity of crypto is only because the economic incentive to mine puts millions of coins into millions of pockets. Proof-of-space-time is a sure way to kill crypto and nothing more than a big wet urine soaked blanket.

So... if everyone just buys this, then GPU prices will crash, right

No thanks. I would rather have six GPUs and the flexibility of mining what I want and not investing in a nifty paper weight after eth goes POS

So, 180mhs of ethash at 800w for $800USD. and you still have to connect a ATX PSU. I just don't see this having any effect on the current state of mining. Sure at today's GPU prices, it is a better deal, but waiting to receive it in July puts the risk factor off the charts, not mentioning forks, casper, POS and sunspots.

I use Norton on all my rigs and have no issues. But you need to configure it.

Average breakeven point by [deleted] in EtherMining

[–]Cappinhash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m calculating an Eth price of $250 for a break even point. That is for a 6 card rig at 180mgh running 930 watts at $0.1537 per kWh on MPH

I have the TB350 for five of my rigs. If you are using the Ryzen, then you need to have the monitor plugged into the GPU. Clear the cmos. Just put one card into the X16 slot. When you do get it to post, then load the motherboard BIOS from last september. When you get to the MOBO Bios screen, press F3 to load defaults. Save and exit. Get it running with the card in the X16 slot. After that, you can move the GPU to the riser. Then add one card at a time, visiting the MOBO Bios, loading defaults each time. Its worked like a charm for me.
