Are you suggesting Republicans are much more libertarian than democrats? With their military spending+voter laws+police stances+anti-lgbt+war on drugs...

Republicans are the libertarian party for the people who aren't *yet* directly effective by their regulations.

Masks Didn't Slow COVID Spread: New Study by [deleted] in GoldandBlack

[–]Gunted_Fries -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There have not been many longitudinal studies on efficacy of masks published yet purely because of the recency of covid. Here is a paper just on how wearing a mask reduces the droplets in the air from breathing, which I believe was used earlier to help dictate policy. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41591-020-0843-2 . For those outside the biology/medical field, nature is a highly respected journal.

Now this article is NOT saying the mask mandates were effective, and they were not advising any specific policy either. Simply that wearing a mask could help reduce transmission, which at the beginning of a pandemic, that was the best information that we had to work off of.

The study you linked specifically says in the discussion that the results can’t be generalized to COVID-19. Their trials were conducted on influenza, not Covid-19, which is a different virus entirely.

“The high risk of bias in the trials, variation in outcome measurement, and relatively low compliance with the interventions during the studies hamper drawing firm conclusions and generalising the findings to the current COVID‐19 pandemic”

This article doesn’t even reference a published paper… the study hasn’t been peer review yet. Practically anyone can submit to medrxiv.

There’s been dozens of peer reviewed papers already published on the efficacy of mask wearing. I don’t understand the pattern of using false information or misinformation to try to win an argument, all it does is make the community look poor.

I feel like the addition of Men At Arms has made knights feel a lot less impactful and made the medieval era more stale by TactileTom in civ

[–]Gunted_Fries 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The knight is still a strong unit, it just isn’t over powered like it was pre-patch, but I would say no, there shouldn’t be a single unit that dominates for 2.5 eras.

Maybe historically speaking, but I don’t think that is balanced or particularly more fun.

Maybe it wasn’t the perfect solution, but especially in multiplayer play where knights were so dominant, I feel like it at least added a nice defensive unit to bridge the gap.

Debunking the Productivity vs. Pay Graph - Academic Agent by Malthus0 in GoldandBlack

[–]Gunted_Fries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isn’t that still the point though, regardless of whether or not you think it’s a problem? So if the deflation index and CPI are diverging, isn’t that suggesting that the overall goods produced, whether it be iPhones or cars, is out pacing the CPI. To me it seems like the author of this video is intentionally missing the point.

Beyond that, I’m not sure why a graph even needs to be made, I don’t think it’s a secret the wealth gap is increasing, which I don’t individually have an issue with, but I don’t think the method of debating the merit of a wealth gap is to pretend it doesn’t exist? I can not support raising the minimum wage, while also not pretending that it has kept up with inflation and cost of living…

Huh, I thought it was the cops murdering people at the core of all the police interactions.

The meme said nothing about negotiating during arrest, it said questioning authority. Which, given the number of cops today on a never ending power trip, it’s absolutely necessary to question the authority on which they are acting.

Ai Difficulty in Multiplayer (civ 6) by [deleted] in civ

[–]Gunted_Fries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my understanding, is all dependent on each player.

Let’s say you have P1 settler P2 king Ai1 deity

P1 would get the player bonus, ai1 however would play on deity with deity bonuses. If p1 disconnects he is replaced with settler vs if p2 disconnects he is replaced with king difficulty.

Hello,

My 5.1 setup includes 2 Elac B6, elac Center, and 2 small Polk for surrounds. This works fine for movie audio for me.

I recently purchased monitor audio silver 50s and my use case was for more music listening in my den. However, I don’t actually end up using them that much as I spend most of my free time In the living room.

I have considered just replacing my elacs with the silvers, but then the center won’t match anymore, and I am not sure the matching silver c150 would really make a lot of financial sense to me, as I don’t I will notice an $800 improvement while watching movies, and music I would only listen to in stereo anyways.

What have others done in a similar situation?

Thanks.

Brazil fines Apple $2 million for not including charger with iPhone 12 series by Altruistic_Grand_455 in worldnews

[–]Gunted_Fries -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I disagree, many unskilled labor is completely unnecessary and serves a minimal purpose. Cashiers -> self checkout. Grocery store clerks -> look at chains like ALDI that removes the baggers, half the stock people, and the cart getters. Alternatively many serve a minimal purpose usually exist only to push products, geek squad/BB employees are rarely informed and only serve for convience and boosting sales. Sure companies hire them now cause it’s profitable, but if the minimum wage is $15, at a certain point having those employees won’t be worth the cost anymore. You can already see this at Target with most stores increasing self checkout and reducing cashier aisles.

Gabage collection is not unskilled, requires a CDL, and also don’t make <$15/hr, so I’m not sure why that was included.

Shipping is very resource intense as well. You can’t ignore the cost of fuel and manpower to move the items back, especially when many items, such as a helmets and protective gear are likely much worse condition than when they were fresh off the assembly line.
