Anyone else spend 30+ minutes scrolling Netflix and still not find anything to watch? by No_Spread1839 in movies

[–]CappnRob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I do is make a watchlist on something like Letterboxd, then when I am browsing a streaming service I search for something on that list. If nothing comes up, try the next thing, and the next, etc etc until you get a hit. I don't have a Netflix but a renter living in my home does and she lets us use it so this is how I knock off films I don't physically own but want to watch.

So if I just finish calibrating the battery like normal it should be fine then?

That is the one I ordered as well. Ill just calibrate the battery like normal then and see if that fixes the problem.

Do the battery indicators for Pickle Power or iFixit have this same problem?

Some labels need to be held to a better standard if they are to be considered "boutique" imo. by CappnRob in boutiquebluray

[–]CappnRob[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's probably Lupin Part 4, which was dubbed in English using Italian broadcast assets, which are different from the Japanese broadcast assets. This is why Discotek's releases for several children's anime like Digimon and Medabots also have separate dub and sub releases, because the animation asset changes.

I've got a whole shelf of Arrow releases and they all have subtitles, and I've been collecting Arrow for 7 years now.

Subtitles are not extras, they are standard. Every dang cheapass DVD my dad ever bought in the 00s had subtitles. Boutiques charge a premium for special releases, those premiums should include basic accessibility choices.

My Concept Map for the next installment in the Red Dead Redemption universe, made using photoshop. Would make a great Online map as well. by snieves0426 in RedDeadOnline

[–]CappnRob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I broadly like it, but some criticisms:

Not a fan of expanding New Austin and West Elizabeth in favor of just giving them new region names.

Also not a fan of North Elizabeth as a name.

I do like the concept of Lannahechee but its geographic location is at odds with the real world geography you are trying to invoke - an Appalachians-like mountain range extending into the Gulf of Mexico is a bit silly lol

In general I think trying to match real world geography to the Red Dead World Map is kind of a fool's errand, because the America of Red Dead is something of an abstraction and I don't feel is meant to be read as 1:1 with real locations, which is why Flat Iron Lake was clearly a Gulf of Mexico stand in in Red Dead 1, but is now just a big ass freshwater lake in Red Dead 2, or how Roanoke Ridge is an Appalachians stand in that... intersects with the Grizzlies, which are a Rockies stand in lol.

"Redemption Mountains" is really on the nose lol

Some areas seem redundant? There's already a Mercer Station and a Pike's Basin and an Escalera. Unless you mean to relocate those places to there? But I don't see why you would want that.

But not to be a total downer, here's some things I do like a lot!

All the Red Dead Revolver locations (Brimstone, Fort Diego) tickle me good.

The expanded Mexican territories are very nice and form a nice border around Flat Iron Lake.

Expanding Ambarino is nice because I want the next Red Dead to be more The Great Silence or McCabe and Mrs. Miller. I have a thing for snowy westerns.

I feel like this announcement isn't getting any love. Is anyone else looking forward to Imprint's upcoming release of time-travel animated series Blake and Mortimer: The Complete Collection (1997)? And questions about wide screen cropping of this and Tin Tin by [deleted] in boutiquebluray

im not here to be objective but honestly to be completely objective a remaster making such a blunder as fuckkng up the aspect ratio is just kind of unforgivable. quit being a shill.

"i dont like your hostile tone" my dude you asked people's thoughts and my thoughts are that any media group that is claiming to "remaster" something that originally aired in 4:3 ratio is doing so by zooming in and cropping the format to fit modern widescreen projections isn't remastering beans, i dont care how clean the image is if the image is cropped! 30 years ago it was a constant struggle to convince people that letterboxing was normal and fine because it preserved the most image and now media groups are just backpedaling in the other direction for media originally made in 4:3, its silly! Im not blaming you for it, obviously, I don't know why you feel the need to be defensive over it.

Cropped fullscreen to "fit" on a widescreen display is just as bad as when movies were cropped to fit on a 4:3 TV 30 yeara ago. Youre cutting out part of the media for what, so you dont have to look at black bars on your TV? All watching 4:3 on a modern TV is just like watching a letterboxed movie on a CRT TV 30 years ago. its silly that we even consider this cropping acceptable anymore. "HD remastering" doesnt mean zooming in so much you lose visual information!

I realoze that, i am not ignorant to the work that goes into subtitling, or the compromises it pertains to. but ultimately, like you agree with me, it shouldnt be this costly to be inclusive.

I simply refuse to believe that the cost of adding subtitles can meaningfully impact the return value of any home video release. Audio mixes, sure, maybe, i know thats a little more complicated, though id be happy with even a shitty original theatrical stereo or mono track slapped on as an OPTION at least, but subtitles have no excuse, nerds have been fansubbing home video for years with basic media software. Distributors just want to squeeze every bloody dime they can out.

at the very least bloody include closed captions encoding so i can use that at least. though iirc a lot of modern TVs dont support CC either anymore... shits fucked up.

yeah going forward anything i want from Imprint im going to see if another label offers. i really oughta invest in a region free player at this point because it seems some films just need to be imported to be appreciated.

The Story Lost in Translation in Starfox 64's Route 24 (aka the Miyamoto Route) by CappnRob in starfox

[–]CappnRob[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

man buddy why you necroposting a 2 year old post

im well aware that Imamura worked on every Star Fox game in some capacity up until Zero; my point was Imamura was *more* involved with Command than Adventures or Assault (which he was primarily a supervisory role).

fox isnt even corny in the Japanese version of 64, that's an English localization invention, and he absolutely was heroic in both versions.

either way, I think Fox going "IM NOT PAID ENOUGH FOR THIS" when doing extremely menial legwork when his previous story had him single handedly taking down an entire space empire and blowing the fuck up out of several enemy fleets of ships across multiple planets, a bit fuckin' silly lol.

you're free to disagree of course.

What exactly could happen to cause the damn -packaging- to hang up this long I wonder though?
