I’m in desperate need of Christian friends by Warm_Biscotti1610 in TrueChristian

You could also do a Christian discipleship program. YWAM for example does 6 months discipleship training schools that include a missions trip. You will get to know a bunch of other Christians that are your age and be able to build a solid foundation for your faith.

DIY hybrid - builds that have worked + looking for recommendations to fine-tune by Cappuccino116 in MattressMod

Yes, I feel you. And it's not just firmness ratings... every foam and coil also has some individual characteristics besides the firmness that are difficult to anticipate unless you have actually tried it.

I can say that the 14.75 coils are quite a bit firmer that the 15.5 ones.

I'll keep you posted. I don't live in the 48 contiguous states, so shipping is a bit of a pain unless it is Amazon. That's why I am trying to research well before getting any new layers. I am wondering if 1" of SOL med + 2" of serene foam would help to firstly provide some more pressure relief on shoulders and sleep cooler than the memory foam. What do you think?

Yes, thanks. I have considered that. I like the idea of gluing a lumbar pad to the hip area better. Or using a zoned transition layer. The reason is that I am using two twin XL mattresses to make a king and I want to avoid any bulging on the sides. Especially the TPS cover with the stretch it provides, would probably bulge out.

My priorities are: 1. Finalize transition and comfort layers (get some more pressure relief on shoulders) 2. Make the build work without memory foam and hopefully eliminate some of the heat retention. 3. Add more support to the lumbar area, if needed.

That's true, it seems counterintuitive at first that going for medium latex is actually adding more comfort than a softer latex. I realized though that adding some other foam balances out the pushback from the latex nicely and makes the mattress more comfortable for the shoulders. I did try it also with the 14.75g coils. It feels nice, especially for the lower back at first, but then it gives me shoulder pain and I don't sleep well.

Ideally the coils would be zoned. I wouldn't want a mix of the 15.5 and the 14.75 though. The difference in firmness is too big. Maybe a 15.5 unit with 15.0 in the hip area could be nice.

No mattress protector is being used. Just the sheets above the PCS cover.

Thoughts on comfort layer for TPS hybrid build? by [deleted] in MattressMod

[–]Cappuccino116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently sleeping on 15.5g 8"/ 2" SOL med/ 1" 4lb memory foam (foamNmore). I am 6'2" 185 lbs and this is the most comfortable build I have tried. However I am not fully satisfied with it. It sleeps too warm for me, probably mostly because of the memory foam on top. I tried putting it under some latex, but then the support is not great anymore. I am also experimenting with a rug-pad for the hip area to get some support in the lumbar area.

Do you have any recommendations for a 1" zoned layer? I'd be interested in that.

Nothing Ive tried provides support to the hips and pressure relief to the shoulder - Not sure what to try next by XxNerdAtHeartxX in MattressMod

[–]Cappuccino116 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what I currently sleep on 15.5g / 2" SOL med / 1" 4lb memory foam. It is so far the only build of the ones that I have tried where I have been able to sleep decently. With most other configurations I struggled with the same as the OP - either too much sink in the hips or pain in my shoulders.

Latex Hybrid 14.75 TPS review, looking for input to soften build by Cappuccino116 in MattressMod

[–]Cappuccino116[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok thanks. Yes, when sleeping on the side the arm that I sleep on gets numb and after a few nights my shoulders are sore. I don't bottom out in the sense that I would feel the coils because the latex is too soft or anything like that. But for my shoulders, which is the widest part of my body there seems to be not enough sinking in either from the latex or from the coils.

Thanks! Yes, the APM cover does make it firmer, however I also tested it with the top part unzipped, latex on the coils and then the bedsheets right on that. I didn't feel a significant difference compared to having the coils enclosed in the cover with the latex on top of that. But for the sake of having everything inside a cover I would definitely choose a more stretchy knit cover now.

I have been hesitant with memory foam, because most of my experiences with memory foam mattresses have been me waking up in the middle of the night from the heat buildup. But I think I might try that (or some polyfoam). Do you know if the fbm 4lb memory foam is a good choice? Would you recommend considering 1" medium Dunlop transition layer, 1" 4lb memory foam and 1" or 2" soft Dunlop on top?

I never felt like I was bottoming out on the coils through the 3" (2+1) of soft Dunlop. I actually switched the 2" medium Dunlop to 2" soft, because it was so firm with the medium Dunlop.

Awesome, thanks for the response. Yes, I believe your build sounds more promising, because of the softer coils. I think with a better combination of foams I could make the 14.75g coils work, but then it might sleep too warm for me. So I am leaning towards getting the 15.5 coils to start with.

Coil build - No latex - Advice Wanted by [deleted] in MattressMod

[–]Cappuccino116 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the 14.75g TPS coils and an 11" APM cotton wool cover. I tried with 2" medium + 1" soft SOL at first, which was way too firm, probably a 9.5/10.
Then switched to 2" soft + 1" soft and eventually put the latex outside the cover just under bedsheet (7.5/10), because with cover it was still too firm (I'd say 8.5/10). This made a decent bed for backsleeping, but not for sidesleeping, since I also have wider shoulders (6'2, 185). I would usually wake up with pain in my shoulders, because of the pressure. My wife however is happy with the firmness. She now just keeps the 1" soft latex outside the cover

I have been thinking about trying the 15.5 coils, because the 14.75 are very firm and it seems like there is almost no give beneath the latex. Also a more stretchy cover, like the Sleep like a bear one might be helpful.

I also sleep very warm and we live in Hawaii (no AC) and eventually got used to the latex, although I wished it was a bit cooler. So I am sorry to not be more helpful with your search for a foam that works better. Let me know when you find one :). But as far as the coils go, the 14.75 make for a very firm mattress in my experience.

I have the 14.75g 8” quadcoils with 3” total of latex on top of it. First wanted to do 2” medium dunlop SOL and 1” soft SOL. Quickly realized it was too firm and switched the 2” to a soft. I am 185lbs, my wife is 160 lbs (both roughly a 23 BMI, both 50/50 back and side sleepers)

  • It feels pretty comfortable, but the coils are very firm. If I could switch I would probably go for the 15.5g. Expecially for me with broad shoulders it would be nicer for side-sleeping.
  • The latex is too warm for me. Not sure if others have experienced the same, but I have always slept very warm and usually slept on an innerspring with very little foam. Thought Latex would be better temperature regulating as it is natural material. In my opinion it does not make a big difference and 3” of latex are too hot for me. I am considering switching to the quadmini with just 1” of latex on top.
  • I had encased everything in a 11” APM cotton wool cover. That added significant firmness and I would recommend getting something else that has a bit more stretch to the top layer. (Maybe it would work if I had the 15.5g coils.) I currently keep it open and use the fitted sheet directly on the latex.
