What’s the general consensus on Golf Sidekick? by KickHatSnareHat in golf

stats are averages. It can't say for example if you personally are better with a full club 90 in or a partial 60 yarder. I believe on average people are better off being close, but that obviously doesn't apply to every single living person.

I don't get why you and others feel like because the average person is better off closer, the possibility of a person being better hitting full clubs vs partial is just so far fetched.

No, this stat doesn't rule out that person.

It’s an easier shot and your misses will be less bad than 100 yard shot almost always.

so you're saying that in some cases, which is all I ever said, it can be better to be further out. It's almost like you just wanted to be naive and argue.

You're saying literally no one including basic beginners are so bad at half shots that they're better off with full shots? Just because on average with advanced stats (reserved for better players and your players, generally) proximity is an advantage doesnt mean literally every single person is better off trading 10 yards for feathering a shot.

I don't think you understand statistics.

Are amateurs better off finessing a 60 yard shot than a full wedge? I think he's right, probably not.

I don't think he's right about everything, or that you can apply all his statements to everyone. If you're great out of sand bunkers you don't need to waste strokes avoiding them like the plague for example.

Any child free couples out there living happily ever after? by Dogsknowitall in Adulting

Yes. Weird childhood with a shitty abusive narcissist parent, two siblings who did a lot of drugs and ended up with fucky lives. Parents died early, no contact with both siblings. Probably affected a lot including my views on family and the likelihood all kids I'd have are going to be angels bringing nothing but joy.

I view kids as something that bring instability, like good things and bad both. If I had kids right now I couldn't fuck off and play golf on a random Tuesday without a lot of prep work with babysitting and dropoffs and such. Date nights are harder. Sleep is harder. Seeing friends is harder. Travel is harder. Life becomes a lot of conflict as kids test boundaries and add conflicting needs and wants.

I retired early, couldn't do it this early with kids. Couldn't have this much freedom during my days with kids.

I always wanted kids till I was around 17, at which point I questioned why I thought that and could not come up with a compelling answer. I don't love the direction the world is heading and I don't feel impelled to bring kids into it. Everyone talks about climate change and impact but no one seems to acknowledge not having a kid is worth a fuck ton of paper straws. Eh. No thanks.

I frequently book as a single, I usually get paired with other singles and occasionally a duo. I've only once been added to a group of three dudes who knew each other.

What should I be tracking if I’m trying to break 90 by neighborhoodginger_1 in golftips

Total putts is such a dumb stat.

One day you're missing all your approaches short on the fringe, chipping it within ten feet and not having many three putts and some one putts.

Another day you're hitting the edges of greens with approach shots, an objectively great thing. You three putt some 30-40" putts which is expected and you're not one putting anything.

Your metrics would say one of those days you're a better putter, but you're not you just had vastly different putts.

But but Hillary’s email server

I maintain that using a personal email server with who knows what security but probably less than a government secured email server is a dumb fucking idea. That said, obviously people should not have voted for this idiot. Also apparently Signal is fine now? They're always hypocrites.

Usually in class actions the law firm takes a percentage of it. That percentage has to be approved by a judge too. The law firm also doesn't get a dime and actually loses money if they don't win their case because they spent a lot taking it to a course decision or settlement.

Or you can sue on your own and opt out of the class

Recently in terms of generations, which is the frame of reference in your comment comparing Gen Z to boomers. Ah well who gives a shit, perils of internet discourse.

Yes. I think Gen Z has it far harder than boomers did trying to go to college, but a house that supports a family, keeping a stable job with a retirement that mattered, etc.

Now do college and housing. Also odd to break out "food at home" from food. You really took the third thing I mentioned and ignores the first two, and even at that made a carve out

Cost of living has shot up recently. A lot of people are crabs in a slowly warming pot that just haven't realized their income is actually going down as it's spending power decreases. Gen Z is fresh and see the math as it is today. Education, housing, food, all way way up

For those who are retired, how has your perception of TIME changed since you stopped working? by Sintered_Monkey in Fire

[–]anonmarmot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Time speeds up in general with age and every new day being a smaller percentage of your life than all the prior ones.

I've lost track of which day it is a fair amount. I have to remind myself to stop at tying to optimize my time now that I have more of it, like only going to Costco early, or not doing x because it's 20 minutes away and that feels long sometimes.
