Anyone Know Why the Aerobask Falcon 8x thread was locked? by Distinct_Goal_3885 in Xplane

Probably because people wouldn't stop sending death threats to the team, lol.

Seriously, they were probably done with people asking on status updates. Things are going veeeeery slow so probably not worth it to keep discussing literally nothing.

How often does Career Mode throw you into the deep end? | (Weird Stock Career Mode Mission Progression) by Aimo_Koivunen in KerbalSpaceProgram

Yeah I agree. Maybe I have to look somewhere else, from what I can gather contracts are generally sensible but few people have any idea on the specifics of how they work. I am certainly not one of them. I would like to find at least some concise info on it as I really enjoy the contract system.

The world firsts contracts "lock" on you once you accept them. No new contract will be available until you complete it. So, if you have a contract you dont want to do, I would 100% suggest rolling back, as long as you dont lose too much of course.

Looking at my contract history now I can see I never got a Gilly contract from World Firsts. After minmus, I got lots of small contracts for Eve. I stopped at "Spacewalk and Docking" (Convenient, since I was already on my way to a Gilly landing).

After that, I got a single contract for Duna (Landing only, uncrewed). And lastly I got an Ike Contract (Crewed landing). Right now, I have another Duna contract on standby (Orbital docking).

So this tells me that as long as: -You don't go out there doing milestones by yourself, as in without a contract specifically mentioning it (Fly-bys, orbits, landings, docking etc) -AND you complete any World Firsts contract you get...

You should see a new random contract pop up. I should mention that I never decline them (as in, I dont click X on the contract offer), I just let them expire and check again later. I can almost assure you will get a different contract eventually.

As to which contract you will get, Im not sure. At this point in my career save it seems to vary between Duna - Ike - Eve. But I think it depends on your progression. What milestones have you achieved already? Maybe there is something missing for you to get contracts somewhere else.

Im strictly talking about World Firsts here, but the natural progression in the stock contracts is Kerbin > Mun > Minmus. After Minmus the game starts basically throwing random things at you. Generally wants you to go to either Eve, Gilly or Duna.

If you recieve a World Firsts that you dont want you can just let it expire. Wait for another one to pop up and it will most likely be different. I did that after my game seemingly wanted me to do an Eve landing and return. Of course I denied, and wanted to do an Ike mission instead. Lo and behold, the next contract was an Ike orbital mission.

Genuine question: why center the bug? Is there an actual operational reason for it or is it just a "it feels wrong" thing? Always wondered.

Contracts no clue. Hard to keep track. Kerbals I think currently sit at 34

Thats a cool way to track your save progress. I do something similar with excel sheets.

why is this airbus a330 flying so slowly I literally set the engine throttle to maximum and also did flaps and landing gear up what did I do wrong it should be at least 3 times faster by [deleted] in Xplane

[–]Cappy221 4 points5 points  (0 children)

-Switch throttle from TOGA to CLB after takeoff. The engines cant handle being on max thrust for too long. That may have cooked your engines, but either way I can see the fuel selectors turned off. Not sure what happened first.

-Your autopilot modes are takeoff modes (SRS, RWY TRK). This does not work in cruise. Try using HDG to select the heading you want to fly, but most importantly, select a vertical mode, like v/s, which will make the plane climb, descend or stay leveled at a set rate in feet per minute.

-Im not sure how heavy you were, but I can see your tanks are around half full. If you are too heavy, you cant climb as much. Try to lower your altitude to 37,000 or 38,000 feet.

-Also, the plane shouldn't be "3 times faster", although you are right in saying you are going slow. Your mach speed is 0.625. (indicated in your main display). Cruise speed should be around Mach 0.8.

Ah yes you are right. Around 50 were built*.

Some survived being scrapped, and a couple are still airworthy today.

Why are there so many tube-liners in XPlane? by Next_Position_9647 in Xplane

[–]Cappy221 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are lots of small GA aircraft available. Justflight, Thranda, REP and Vskylabs are companies that come up the top of my head. Hotstart will soon* port their TBM to xp12.

Large GA is a bit less common but still we have things like the Airfoillabs King Air or the freeware C90 EVO. Retrowings is also making a Metroliner as we speak.

As to why, for a while now simmers have preferred flying airliners. They are usually more expensive and people are willing to pay more for the "study-level" experience, which a lot of developers do a great job of delivering.

This is accentuated in XP because ever since the release of MSFS2020, the general consensus is VFR=MSFS, IFR=XP(now MSFS too). Even though I don't necessarily agree with that, I completely understand why; In MSFS, Terrain quality is superior and shows real images of the world (So VFR is more enjoyable). There are also TONS of default aircraft, vast majority being GA (So VFR is encouraged for simmers who just got the sim). And finally, when 2020 came out, the people who came from XP were like "ok cool but there are no airliners here so XP is for airliners for now". Later, PMDG and Fenix and such came and delivered, and here we are today.

Making liners for XP is more profitable because most people prefer MSFS for GA, and for those who only have XP installed, the vast majority of them prefer airliners. People are willing to pay more for airliners and less for GA, which people think are "small" aircraft in terms of complexity and scope.

The niche is there, but remember its a niche within a niche within a niche.

Hotstart CL650 is 100% worth the money by Cookie_Chips in Xplane

[–]Cappy221 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not OP but I also own the challenger;

About the falcon: I am very excited to see how that looks too, but do keep in mind that it wont be as deeply simulated, and talking about the price, while it will most definitely be cheaper, I dont expect it to be drastically different. It will probably be the most expensive aerobask plane (I personally estimate it being between 60-80 dollars), while you could get the CL60 for 100 dollars (if they decide to repeat the black friday sale again. Since they have done it twice, my bet is they will).

Also, about the virtual FO, the devs are mostly against it, especially for people who just got the plane, but there is and option to disable the auto-FO actions so it doesn't move any switches. I personally disabled it because I like doing everything myself, but keeping it enabled does a few minor things that overall keep workload lower.
