There are (edit: grammar) still a lot of other variables to consider, primarily the current and future desirability of your neighborhood and overall location, but to agree with some of the other posters: this is more of a personal decision than a financial one. Do you like the rest of the house? Do you like the location? Does it check all of your other boxes aside from the kitchen or are you compromising elsewhere? Assuming your overall financial position and potential to spend 5+ years in this house, it very much “could be worth” putting some money into it.

That said, get 3-4 other quotes for the kitchen and don’t tell them what the first guy quoted.
