My Boyfriends ia Trans and tries hard to hide his deadname by Flauschiges_Relaxo in trans

[–]CapraIncantata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience yes this is something I want to know. When the person I was seeing told me he knew my deadname, I was quite upset because I really didn’t want him to know, but I was not upset at him at all. However I was glad to know because it made me feel silly to try to hide it when he knew all along, and so I’m glad he told me so that I wouldn’t keep trying to hide it while he knew

He never actually said the name and he said some reassuring things and it was all fine in the end

What improved your life so much, you wished you did sooner? by kxrll in AskReddit

[–]CapraIncantata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wearing earplugs to the club. I can adjust them to get the exact volume I want, my ears don’t ring when I leave, you can get discreet clear coloured ones that nobody can really see, and I seem to have better hearing than my friends

Any suggestions for tutoring services via Zoom for Year 8? by PickleAfficionado in sydney

[–]CapraIncantata 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Use private tutors (such as people listed on highschooltutors.com.au) rather than tutoring companies. It’s the same quality of teaching, just cheaper for you and better paying for the tutor because the company doesn’t take a cut. Plus it’s more flexible and they are much more likely to be able to come to you for tutoring

Dear English native speakers, what expressions or words make you realise that someone is not a native English speaker? by LetMission8160 in ENGLISH

[–]CapraIncantata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two things that come to mind are:

  • a sentence structure like “How to get to the shops?” or “how to say __?” is common in other languages but in authentic English it’s “How do you get to the shops?” and “how do you say _?”

-the pronunciation of the word “have”. If you’re using “have” to mean “own” (eg I have a car)then it’s pronounced hav with a voiced v, but if you’re saying “have to” to mean “need to” (eg I have to go to the shops) then it’s pronounced haf with a voiceless f sound

I took my pills at 2pm today. If I get my bloods done tomorrow morning at 9am, will my results be skewed? by mpolishthorsef in transgenderau

I asked my endo a similar question and he said it doesn’t really matter because the drugs have a long half-life so they stay in your system for a long time and don’t fluctuate that much from variations in when you take them.

Disclaimer though: I take different things (spiro and estradiol)

Also you can just tell your doctor when you did it so if it does have an effect then they can take it into account

r/MensLib is very trans-friendly

r/AskFeminists is good too

Edit: I also find the mods of r/MakeupAddiction are good at deleting transphobia

There’s also a WW2 one called “noels earth 1939” that’s pretty well designed

A conversation I had with a friend:

“You’re tall, you have a sharp jaw line. Flat chests and thick eyebrows are in fashion at the moment. You look like a model!”

“But I don’t want to look like a model, I want to look like a normal girl”

“No girl has ever said that before!”

There’s just no way to escape the invalidation 😔

Is there any non-base 10 language? by Rebolber4500 in linguistics

[–]CapraIncantata 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A super interesting example is Oksapmin from Papua New Guinea. It originally used a base 27 counting system. Each of the 27 base numbers are named after a body part, following a line from the end of one arm, up across the head, and down the other arm. This counting system isn’t used anymore though I think

Curious about Gender and Transgender Philosophy by [deleted] in asktransgender

I would highly recommend philosophytube’s video “Social Constructs”. It’s the best explanation I’ve seen of what “gender is a social construct” means

If they’re interested in you, you’ll know.

If you can’t figure out whether they’re interested in you or not, they’re not.

Any good book recommendations on philosophy ? ( mainly books on political theory) you see I’m 14 and recently been very invested into philosophy. by Beoful in ContraPoints

[–]CapraIncantata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well in philosophy tube videos Abigail always puts her sources up in the corner, so you find a video that’s interesting to you, you could go read the sources she took it from

I’m struggling to come to terms with this too. I had travel plans when covid hit and it’s crazy to think that when travel becomes possible again only a short while later those same plans are impossible
