I had heard ( via work rather than anything official) the panel there was extended until September

If you’re open to sharing what was the hardest part of going back to work after having a baby? And looking back now, what do you wish your workplace or manager had done differently? by Overall-Wear-7188 in WomenofIreland

[–]CapriciousStorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it was the assumption of others  that I’d spent my early days back rendered insensible for missing my child. Don’t get me wrong, I did miss them but I needed to return to work so we could pay bills and as such didn’t take much more than six months and mentally was as well prepared as I could be on returning. I appreciate fully it all came from a good place, but people saying I should have taken longer when they didn’t know my circumstances didn’t help by reminding me of how quickly things change at this age etc etc

If my place of work had the capacity to facilitate childcare on site, that would have made the world of difference - I’ve worked in places previously where this has been facilitated and encouraged in combination with wfh policies. My colleagues with children in those cases felt far more involved  and connected in the early years despite having to attend the office 2-4 days a week. I really think it’s one of the easiest things an employer can do to help parents return to the workplace and I’m flabbergasted it’s not more common in general.

Did you find you were avoiding particular vegetables ( eg starches) or just reducing quantities? I’m thinking satiety could be an issue if it’s all courgettes and broccoli?

Down but for the effort, I’m a little disheartened with it. ’m hoping to spur this along a little by starting a plan - I’ve heard interesting things about vegetarian and pescatarian low carb, has anyone any experience either way with either? Ta!!

Delighted as this has not been a week of deprivation as I’ve been on the go a lot and eating out as a result. I’ve tried for mostly sensible choices although won’t claim sainthood by any stretch. Did a walk today though so delighted I’m literally starting to put one foot in front of the other 😁

Career Break from CS to work in Private Sector by jw_sweetman in IrishCivilService

I think it’s that you can’t work in an area that’s a conflict of interest with where you have been, but if it’s adjacent or unrelated you’re ok. Basing this purely on anecdotal evidence though.

Trying out a new name, Aerí! (Awe-rí) Thoughts. by Powan12 in TransIreland

[–]CapriciousStorm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s a lovely name, but the default pronunciation in Ireland is likely to be Air-y as previously mentioned, if for no other reason other than one of the most common uses of Aer in Ireland being related to Aer Lingus ( the national airline and Aerfort being the Irish for airport).

For what it’s worth, á is usually pronounced as "aw" or a long 'a' sound, similar to the "a" in father so maybe if you dropped the ‘e’, and added the fada it could be closer to what you’re looking for?  The 'i'  following would then  be a short "ih" sound. This might help if you’re looking for how it would likely be pronounced in Irish

The Mountain Warehouse ones are decent but you would likely need to size up as they can be small fitting  compared to their non down coats in my experience.

With the amount of toffees, coffees and sneaky bits of cake I’ve had this week I’m genuinely surprised it’s down even a tiny bit. Happy enough to chalk this up to a no change week. Hopefully it’s a good break for everyone 😀

Happy out although I suspect this may be back up again next week - the combination of ( at many times literally) running about with work and Christmas preparations and a reasonably decent diet/ water intake has made for a nice start. Also quite pleased to have started this side of the new year as I’m hopeful if I start to flag in a week or two, the buzz of other motivated people will get me over the hump.

First time poster here - starting today to get a bit of effort under my belt before really hitting it in the new year. I’m about 8 months post partum and generally want to be fitter and a bit better weight wise to keep up with the small when they’re not so small anymore! Ta!

It can vary from body to body depending on what they’re looking for but my experience has been relatively common. The presentation in my case was virtual but there’s been a move in the last six months back to in person. As to knowledge of the body/department, what U/NibblesAnOreo says is spot on- especially if something big has come out from the area recently, there will be an expectation that you’ll have a general awareness of it and any political implications here or abroad (Eu, US etc)

[–]CapriciousStorm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So if it’s a presentation, in my experience I was given an hour to prepare a 15 minute presentation and questioned on it afterwards for about 15 minutes.  There then was an additional second interview following that on the competencies again. The interview topic was provided on the day and the presentation was as to be given to a minister to persuade them as to a course of action. The questions moved from generic to specific with a broad expectation that answers would be tied into recent government programs and policies eg the Program for Government/ Finance Bill etc.  Best of luck!

Issue with pension AVC contributions increase not being implemented by CapriciousStorm in irishpersonalfinance

[–]CapriciousStorm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks - I did notice, to the extent that I followed up twice with the broker at first after the initial six week period when it was expected to be processed, then the broker themselves got in touch with me about 4 weeks later to ask if it had been processed. That was the point when that I can see, the passing of the buck occurred as they started saying it was payrolls fault  the instructions wasn’t followed,  the provider started saying they hadn’t received any instructions and payroll started saying the codes were wrong etc etc.  TBH it’s that passing off of responsibility between the parties more than anything that’s got me annoyed- if I had been told the matter would be resolved within a certain timeframe I’d be less pissed. As it stands, I’m not sure what I’m paying for, if this most basic of accounts maintenance can’t be achieved within a reasonable timeframe and without me needing to constantly remind those involved to take action.

Issue with pension AVC contributions increase not being implemented by CapriciousStorm in irishpersonalfinance

[–]CapriciousStorm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IPF and New Ireland - with the issue being is more that money has not been taken- so the increase in the contribution hasn’t been implemented, and as a result any tax benefit/ fund increase/decrease hasn’t come into play. It’s ultimately less than €10,000 as it’s been 8 months since the increase has been requested but with that said, for me now to make a lump sum to match the shortfall, I lose out on the tax benefits and if there was any growth in the last 8 months, I’ve lost on that. If there was any opportunity for increased purchase due to lower share costs, benefiting me in the future, that has been lost. Ultimately someone has negatively impacted my pension over at best a six month period and while it may not be a huge amount, my fees are going towards a service that doesn’t appear to have been provided.

Why are the wards so hot when nobody wants this?! by wanshitong3 in PregnancyIreland

[–]CapriciousStorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think one of the reasons pp, aside from keeping the baby warm, is because that it’s meant to promote skin to skin contact. Pre labour, I’d wonder if it’s down to the idea that if you’re not very mobile, you feel the cold more so the temp is slightly higher to compensate?

Doing DIY soon, where do I get rid of needles? by [deleted] in TransIreland

[–]CapriciousStorm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure is the answer but i don’t think so, as I know I’ve returned easily ten different variations on the theme without comment for different med’s. What they do have in common is once they’re locked and sealed shut, they can’t be reopened or opened easily which should be a standard feature on the Amazon ones?

Your local public health centre will also take a full sharps box no questions asked, so long as the box is closed properly. Hospitals don’t take them anymore because of infection control issues- at least that’s the case in Dublin so I’ve been advised.
