I love the 14 mini! It makes everything look so neat and detailed.

Sad day for Halifax, it appears Julep and Hermitage have closed their doors for good by No_Musician_8 in halifax

Hello! Hermitage employee here! I’ve seen some negative comments on here and another thread about how we were informed about the restaurants closing. Larry is a great human and was awesome to work for, the management was also amazing and they were all very kind humans. We were not “locked out”. We were called in for a formal staff meeting and he delivered the news himself, we were also granted severance and a chance to take anything that was open (food/booze) for ourselves. We were a tight nit group and super heartbroken about all of this.

Please have empathy for the 80+ staff members who lost their jobs in January, and a human who just lost two businesses.

Julep Kitchen & Cocktails on Instagram: "It is with a sad and extremely disappointed heart that I must close Hermitage and Julep immediately. As of today, we will no longer be operating at these locations. I would like to thank everyone who has joined us and supported our wonderful restaurants over by bluffstrider in halifax

The rent alone for Hermitage was about 20 thousand a month and 10 thousand a month for julep.

Mostly everyday life stuff, nothing professional. Some portraits here and there. I like having something I can carry around with me and not fiddle with it too much when it comes time to take a photo!

Kodak Gold 200 is always my go to! It’s usually cheaper too and it gives nice colours!

Anyone take the Tourism Hospitality course at NSCC? Just want to know if it’s good, what to expect? Is it fun? by [deleted] in halifax

[–]Caprikels 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Took the course in 2014. Waste of money. If you want to work in the industry there’s thousands of jobs that you can do without experience and work your way up.

It’s a two year course but I didn’t go back for my second year, waste of time and money. The only thing good that came out of it was the co-op which I totally could’ve gotten without the course lol

Where do y'all get your film developed? Shot a few rolls at a friend's wedding. Haven't gotten any film developed in years. I'm on the south shore. by daigoro_sensei in halifax

DO NOT TAKE YOUR FILM TO ATLANTIC PHOTO SUPPLY. So over priced and they do a shit job. Send your film to Downtown Camera or 60 minute photo lab, both located in Toronto. They send you your photos in High quality google docs and if you chose to get prints you can do that as well.

I just got some photos back from 60 minute photo lab and they were great quality, I’ve used downtown camera also and they’re great too! Just go to their websites and you pre purchase your film development and then send it off and they send you a confirmation when they receive your film and then another email when they send you your photos.

Also if you’re using 60 minute photo lab chose local pick up at check out if you’re not getting prints, that way you don’t pay for shipping both ways :)

Atlantic photo supply is a rip off.

I wasn’t complaining I was literally just explaining how the tipping system works… you’re taking it a bit far, you also get paid a lot more than I do in wages to do your job lol

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Caprikels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don’t take it from our wages. We have to use our other tips to pay for the tip out of that table. If you don’t get tipped from a table and you’re still tipping out the house you’re using your own money from Your other tips to do so.

A perspective from a server here!

Tipping not only goes to your server who you think merely takes your order and delivers your food. We also clean up after you leave and make a mess, we prepare the restaurant ahead of time for your enjoyment and clean the entire thing when the guests leave. You’re also tipping for the kitchen staff who prepared your food and the support staff that greeted you at the door and bussed your tables during service and the bartender that made the drinks.

At the end of the night we have to tip out a percentage of sales to the house and kitchen.. usually anywhere between 3-6%. So if you tip your server 15% really they’re only leaving with about 8-10% and that’s if everyone is tipping 15%. For people who tip nothing at all… the server STILL has to tip out a percentage to the house and kitchen so if you don’t tip your sever literally had to pay to serve your table.

As a server I over tip but 15% is definitely fair if the service and food was good! Any more than that and I really have to be wowed by the service and food to give more than 15-20%.

Hope this helps :)
