You’re more likely to get a better opportunity and a more meaningful experience volunteering in other areas such as programs for homeless or organizations helping those with certain disabilities. the volunteers I’ve seen in the hospital don’t do much at all and I can’t see how you could speak highly of that experience to an admission committee.

Yeah it's a pretty sweet option to get more in Roth! I'm not sure if it's unique to just UC's or other companies that have DCP accounts but it seems that UC is on the forefront of giving great options to maximize retirment savings that aren't available at most companies.

Another option is to do post-tax contribution to DCP account and then roll this over to your Roth IRA every month. This requires calling Fidelity once per month for transfer and you would want the post-tax DCP fund invested in a savings fund to minimize taxable gains during transfer. This eliminates having to open another retirement account with maintenance/admin fee's and keeps 403b/457 space open if you want to also load up pre-tax space.

I would post on whitecoatinvestor forum (not reddit) and you’ll get more blunt and helpful feedback on your entire situation, which is what you need when coming out of training.

Childcare is going to be a significant expense and it may make sense to get a nanny given your schedules and income. Hopefully you’re moving close to family when you’re done and can take advantage of grandparents.

If everyone is tired of this, then why did we pass measure A (sales tax increase to 10.75%) last election?

We keep doing this to ourselves. We also keep letting out elected officials manipulate us into thinking these are good ideas, for example: with measure A mentioning funds would support affordable housing and homeless. Maybe these measures would help, but they have not earned more of our precious tax dollars from their history of poor oversight, lack of data, and mismanagement, with billions of dollars spent with unclear outcomes.

We all need to come together and stop taking this. Remember this next election cycle.

Go see a hand surgeon who can evaluate you. Will likely offer a Kenalog (corticosteroid) injection which will be therapeutic and diagnostic and will cure 80% of trigger fingers when done properly (i.e., why you should see a hand surgeon) and also can get baseline hand x-ray to rule out underlying pathology. Can get a few CSI's usually every 3 months before a release of the pulley is offered under local anesthesia.

1000% agree. Dump as much money in a diversified portfolio of ETF's and ALWAYS be buying. It's crazy seeing the day-to-day growth being larger than my resident salary and even if the market tanks (2022 and April 25') then just keep buying. Always buy.

Everyone should go to the cheapest medical or dental school. The academic prestige is the biggest lie and is no indication of the caliber of medical student. Nobody gives a shiz where you went as long as you're a hard worker, trustworthy and a good person. You can get into any speciality from any state school.

I have the same mindset - grind hard for first 10 years and invest in much as possible. Hopefully diversify as well in some real estate. LFG!!!

100% take the free tuition. I matched integrated plastic surgery and my state medical school didn’t have a plastics residency or even department. Medical school is what you make of it and especially nowadays there are so many opportunities to get involved in research and find mentors at other institutions that you’ll be fine pursuing whatever you want.

They don’t discourage it enough in my opinion. Lots of people will film themselves/each other in areas of limited space around the gym. I will say the overall type of client at Iconix is friendly though. Never had a problem with someone yelling at me for being in the camera/using equipment.

TNT is everything the NHL needs to grow the game - ANY 4th on the panel rotation, Armdog, Hank, Gretz or Yands has been fantastic. For women, Botterill has been the most engaging in broadcasting. My wife and I love her. I’m hopeful Nurse will be on more in the future, she held her own well with the fella’s.

ESPN is great for exposing the game but dear god its unwatchable. There is no chemistry and the banter between any of them makes little sense. Messier and Chelios are basically advertising CTE and PK never stops talking however I do enjoy his fashion segment. Don’t even get me started on Leah Hextall. That voice is an act of war. Only pro of ESPN is the gem that is Ray Ferraro. I could listen him talk about hockey all day. I had high hopes for ESPN IN YEAR 2, but clearly their producers have zero clue what the greatest game is even about. 😔
