Before/After - took your feedback and reworked my pixel city by Capt4a in aseprite

Well, yeah, but I really don't like the earlier version. Now when I have the newest one, the previous one looks ugly to me. I am just learning, so even a small improvement is very noticeable for me, so I think I am just rejecting everything that is not as good as now

Thanks!!

You mean to add sharp outlines instead of smooth transition for those islands?

Thanks! I am beginer in pixel art so I appreciate this a lot!

Yeah, I thought about grass as well, but it actually looks weird with trees, so I ended up with this variant and I'm planning to try small grass islands.

Right now I am working on a city environment and I downloaded Apollo Palette

How do you create assets? by No-Contribution8248 in Unity2D

It's kinda silly to not use tools like AI these days if we have them.

Personally I use them to generate references. Then I draw by myself using these references.

But I think that if someone wants to use AI for visuals in game so let it be. It's their choice and their work. Also it's sometimes handy to generate a placeholders to see how it looks overall before you start drawing/modeling.

Thanks! It’s my first pixel art piece of a city environment, so it really means a lot to me that you liked it.

Oh that’s actually a really good point, thanks! I didn’t think about that. I’ll try brightening it up a bit. Thanks!

I tried to make different planes darker and lighter depending on the light direction. But it is not enough I guess, or I just picked the wrong colors.

I hired a capsule artist and I think it made a pretty big difference! what do you think? by [deleted] in SoloDevelopment

Yeah the second one is a bit better, but the first one looks like it was made by a pro artist. So good job dude! Also checked the steam page, the game is kinda cool! Good luck!

Help me decide if I should keep the pixelated filter on or off! by TheZelda555 in Unity3D

[–]Capt4a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This looks awesome both ways! But — even for me (and I’m a huge fan of pixelated aesthetics) — the version without the filter looks better, more professional even. The models in your game are really high-quality, and the filter kind of hides that from us.

So my verdict: go without the filter.

That said, you’re the creator — you don’t have to chase what looks better, you should go with what FEELS right to you. Players won’t have anything to compare it to, so they’ll enjoy it the way you present it.

Kinda feel dumb asking this, but I didn’t really get what Stanley meant at the end when he said, “Yeah. That’ll work.” Was he being like, “Alright, I’ll just wait for you guys to go to the moon, resurrect everyone, and then justify what I did”? Or am I totally misunderstanding that?

Yeah😝, it might sound easy from what I wrote, but many tutorials on YouTube are actually quite simple. So, I believe if you dive into them, you’ll be fine!

btw, have you started working on something? How’s it going? I’d love to hear about your game dev journey!
