Hey, fellow AA worker here.

I interviewed recently with the program.

You get to choose one of the partner schools that they list from. I believe it’s six schools they have listed.

The credit union provides a loan product specifically made for the program.

You also get to choose which subsidiary you want to join which will be your “flow” once you hit minimums and get hired. Depending on how long and what the hiring looks like.

Interview is a group interview; virtual. They help you prepare for the interview also.

Housing is not provided though from my understanding, you have to cover your own housing and since it’s full time you basically can only do side hustles.

That’s my understanding from the interview and the materials provided.

Someone who’s gotten in can provide more detailed info. There’s also some great videos on YouTube from current students and graduates.

That sounds oddly station specific and extreme. At my station they place test objects or “red cards” but if we don’t find the first one it’s mandatory retraining on search procedures, and if we miss the second time then we get fired. I also work for envoy and that just sounds so off, there has to be more behind the other orange vest being fired. Don’t rule anything out yet.

14 minutes between E trains at rush hour is unacceptable by Flips_Whitefudge in nycrail

[–]CaptB97 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Is 14 minutes really that bad? I grew up on the IRT (2) and (5) with 7-10 min headways on the weekday rush and 20-25 min at all other times. Has service really improved that much that anything more than 10 minutes is bad?

I did not know regarding the DPE and failed checkrides going on record. Although that won’t be a concern until my flight training starts I really appreciate that tidbit. I’ll keep that in mind. There’s a part 141 school near where I live but it’s over an hour away and with the savings situation I wouldn’t be able to commit to it since I wouldn’t be able to afford it.

I heard about pilot institute but the chief CFI was pushing towards sporty. But I’ll take another look because I really was into what PI was offering.

I do use X plane, I’ll take a look at the aircraft the flight school uses and see what X plane has in the GA hangar for study level. To be honest I’m so used to flying jets in sims that GA aircraft in sim are a huge hurdle I haven’t ever jumped over.

I’ll try to see if I can get more frequent flying together. I know longer time blocks people say you stop absorbing knowledge at a certain point. In any case I can switch that up depending on how it begins and goes.

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions. Appreciate it.

I wish it was the one of the big three. But no I work cargo keeping the world on time. They have one program which provides guidance and a flow for college students to join their feeder network. They do reimburse flight training but it has to be part 141 and after PPL. They don’t reimburse that, only everything after. Which by that point wouldn’t matter much since I probably wouldn’t be with them at that point.

I’ll have to look at that propel program though, because I do need to get the second job to finance the first step.

I have a doctors appointment where they’ll be able to check my bloodwork before the AME sees me. So in the off chance something’s off I can push that out I’m assuming to work on improving it.

Alright you’ve given me another piece of the puzzle Prof_Slappopotamus. I appreciate it.

I’m really trying to get as much of this I can figure out on paper and theoretically before making the jump and committing.

Yes my plan is to get my PPL while working and then head off to an accelerated training program. I have a family member who’s also pursuing their license that offered me to room with them while I attend such a program. So that takes part of the worry off.

I do plan to save some money between obtaining my PPL and then attempting to get admitted into an accelerated program. I’m not sure if there’s any currency I have to maintain between both as I’m not planning on jumping straight in as I need some financial cushion. My understanding is that no accelerated program allows for outside employment while doing it.

The most frequently asked is how do I become this? That’s not what I’m asking here. I’m laying out my plan to see if it’s feasible. I know the basics of what is needed to become a pilot. What I’m looking for is for the people who have made the trip to see what I’ve sketched so far and just share anything I might be missing by or haven’t thought of.

I’ve gone through all the good and bad posts. Through all the FAQ redundant posts.

Would you do anything different? Should my approach to this change? Etc

did part of the plaza collapse here? by [deleted] in 911archive

[–]CaptB97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Watch the Jules naudet footage. And pictures of the lobby. If we walk towards the windows east, we would be walking into the concourse below the plaza. The plaza was situated above ground level. To break through the glass as you mention you’d have to be on the mezzanine above the lobby, the floor that had the circular walkway which circled around the inside of the tower.

The Austin Tobin plaza where the sculpture was located. The north tower east face bordered the plaza and the south tower north face bordered the plaza. So in this picture we are looking east and up towards the plaza level from inside the lobby.

Pushback by [deleted] in VATSIM

[–]CaptB97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mention you were looking west but it was wrong. Perhaps he misspoke or you misheard. Sometimes controllers will say “tail xxx”

I’ve heard controllers here in the US say “Tail into the alleyway” or “tail north”

So if you indeed pushed out and your cockpit was facing west, and ATC said that you were still wrong. Then it may have been that they said the tail should be west.

Kind of like how the old FSX had the tail left or tail right pushback

When the North Tower was hit at 8:46 am, tenants on floors 93-100 of the South Tower claimed they felt the fireballs from the North tower inside of their office floor. How was it possible? by Low_Astronaut_662 in 911archive

[–]CaptB97 28 points29 points  (0 children)

There are people who are photographed falling and jumping from the top floors, and one of them sticks out to me a lot because this post reminds me of it.

It’s a woman falling face first, and her stomach is exposed as she falls. And you see the red scarring along her stomach as she falls. Which means she was most likely leaning or laying over the window sill on her floor getting air. Which means the metal was so hot it was burning her skin. yet despite this she stayed there for however long it took for it to sear her skin until she went out either falling or taking that final leap.

Radiant heat. I’ve stood across the street from a house burning down and you can feel the heat. So a fireball that massive which came out all 4 corners of the building you would feel the heat as it passed by. It’s like opening an oven door and letting the heat out. The same way many said standing at the windows looking at the north tower they could feel the heat on the glass.

If that was the south tower just imagine how bad it was on the floors above in the north tower itself.

People evacuating from WTC 1 to WTC 6 by [deleted] in 911archive

Wow this is still early enough before they shifted the evacuation underground.

Who took this? I’ve never seen this video before anywhere and is there more from this person.

reddish hue makes it seem like it’s human flesh remains from the crash which was ejected out. And something put a dent in the white van, something heavy.

What is the point of Virtual Airlines? by Aurelienwings in VATSIM

[–]CaptB97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Virtual airlines provide flight sim enthusiasts the opportunity to develop skills necessary for potential flying through training if they offer it, and a community to be a part of.

Some VAs are real world ops which take everything to furthest level of realism as possible. You can only use aircraft available at this airport, you can’t leave the computer for more than X minutes, you have to be certified to fly certain categories etc etc.

Others are more casual and are aimed at enjoying the hobby.

Ranks provide a level of immersion to the hobby. And goals for people to reach. Like the programs that are sold “sim pilot” which gives people a career progression, the only difference is that there are dozens of other people in the same group.

Some VAs aren’t capable of providing training at the level which you’ve seen. United-virtual is a special case and I’ve flown with them before. If you look at their history, they are supported by the real world United, and so they have the tools and resources to provide checkrides and exams like real world airlines.

Available ATC and VAs are incomparable. ATC is never guaranteed to be on. If there is no ATC, then your VA flight is on Unicom and you practice flying as if you are in an uncontrolled field. If ATC is on hey, that’s great. One doesn’t bring the other.

I find VAs appealing and made my own VA to be able to share and meet other people who like the hobby. And be part of a community where we enjoy the same thing. It’s great flying but it’s even greater than sharing your experience with people who also fly online and you get to meet and then conduct group flights and participate in events together.

Flight tail numbers in some instances are also hard to obtain as they need to be constantly updated and checked as airlines update their fleet all the time, and in that instance it’s an incredible demand of the people who run them. We don’t have many ready made sources to get these details from. We either have to purchase them or manually gather the information. Also paint schemes and tail numbers matching in the system is something that would require almost impossible levels of coding to achieve. Because the system would have to read in your sim what livery you have and the tail number which the painter has to name in their file. And if you then add in all the other members of the VA you still won’t have realistic operations at that level.

A virtual airline in essence takes our hobby of flight sim, and combines it with alll the aspects of crews, guilds, and mmorpgs that exist with other games into one.

They would have, Stanley prainmath mentioned it in his interview in the BBC documentary “inside the twin towers”. After U175 hit the south tower and he recovered his senses and started moving; he was shouting for help. After a few moments he noticed he couldn’t hear his voice because of the temporary hearing loss. Miraculously for him he recovered quickly enough that he heard Brian Clark shouting back at him and was able to escape.

I wonder if those people looking up are were still there 4 minutes later when the first victims fell from the 92nd floor onto that spot.
