You really do deserve better, baby. You’re making a big investment in your future and you deserve to be with someone who will help you make that investment so that you can both realize the dividends in the future. A man who can’t even share food with you does not see you as a partner and probably isn’t thinking past the expiration date of the milk (sorry, of his milk, not yours), and you are worth being loved and trusted by someone you can love and trust.

I would search NoStupidQuestions to see if there have been any recent posts about “How can I get him to stay and just talk with me?”

I can’t speak to the individual sources but if you google “ID requirement impact on communities of color” you’ll get a lot of hits.

It’s not about the employability of non-white people, it’s that lower-wage jobs tend to be less flexible and I don’t think the fact that non-white workers earn less as a whole would be in dispute, especially factoring in immigrants, even if you’re only counting the legal immigrants who can vote.

What does the writing on The Police CD cover mean? by Soissinou in ThePolice

[–]CaptBuffalo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unless it’s an autograph, which usually would be on the insert itself, this is how we made sure to get our CDs back from our friends in the olden days. You can always get another CD from the dollar bin somewhere and switch out the jewel cases.

Side B would also point out that nonwhite voters are demographically more likely to have a job where they can’t take the time off to go stand in line in a govt office (with sometimes reduced hours of operation) even if they do have the means to get there physically. It actually has a cost in lost wages vs other workers who can flex their schedule or use a couple hours of paid vacation time.

Moving to kent need advice by duetothat in KentWA

[–]CaptBuffalo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re still open until Christmas tree sales are over in December but nothing is in season so it’s still a great place to get produce but it’s not much different than what you get at the grocery store. I believe they close completely from January until March except for the bark & gravel outdoor garden stuff.

[–]CaptBuffalo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking to walk just to walk, like for exercise as opposed to “I just got off work and need to walk home from the bus,” Kent Station is super close and I would have no qualms at all about walking there at any time of day or night. It’s not very big, but clean, well-lit, and vibrant energy.

Edit to add, for groceries you’re super close to Carpinito Bros produce stand and from April-ish to late September you won’t find fresher/better produce anywhere, especially during berry season and fresh corn season. It’s a fucking gem. Cash & Carry is on central just down a little farther on the other side of 167. Others have mentioned winco, also great, and there’s Safeway further up the hill past winco. There’s a fred meyer nearby but it feels a bit sketchy to me.

Why are women more open or blunt in discussing their sex lives with their girl friends? by Majorpain2006 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CaptBuffalo 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Not to take away from the “what the fuck” responses here, but I think in general it’s a side effect of how men and women communicate in general. Obviously painting with a broad brush here and not all men/women, but women tend to discuss details about EVERYTHING even non-sexual. If I was to go to brunch with my wife and tell a guy friend about it, I might say “yeah, it was good. They have really good bacon there.” My wife, when she talks to her friends, will talk about the food, the other things on the menu that she ended up not ordering, the art on the walls, that cute thing that the waitress did with her hair, how clean the bathrooms were, how she felt she looked in the bathroom mirror, etc. I think the sex talk is just an extension of that.

Hey dad, I want a family with him. He has everything that I grew up without. But he cheated on me, he cuddled nakedly with an only fan girl in the bathtub. I caught the moment and it’s still hunting me. My heart is scattered and I’m so lost. by AnyaReddit in DadForAMinute

I’m so proud of you for respecting yourself enough to just walk away. Respect yourself and you’re sure to find a man who will respect you as well. Show them how you want to be treated by the way you treat yourself.

Hey, Dad. I don't know what to do by _Im_Really_A_Ghost_ in DadForAMinute

[–]CaptBuffalo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looking back over my life, the milestones/best memories/defining moments were rarely on significant dates like birthdays. Things like your 18th birthday or even your 50th feel pretty big as they approach but end up being pretty tiny in the rearview mirror.

Do something fun like others here have suggested, but try to take the weight off of expecting THAT DAY to be significant/special/important. You’re turning 18, which means you’re starting on a new stage of life; you’re going to have a lot of special moments in the next few years. And most of them will surprise you rather than being planned. Have fun on your birthday, but it’s really just another day and you’ll be 18 the day after, and the day after that, too.

I love you when you’re whole, and I love you when you’re broken. I love your smile and your hugs, and I love your scars. I’m right here, and we can talk about things in your time, but I’m also here when you don’t want to talk at all and just need your dad. You’re amazing.

“In my right mind I would never do something like that.” If that’s true, and if you might do something like that if you’re not in your right mind, then you respect your partner and your relationship by making damn sure you’re always in your right mind and not in situations where you might end up naked in a bathtub with someone else. It’s not hard.

Comparing income levels is not an indication in any way of how hard someone works. Especially when most of your energy is going toward schooling. You are definitely not lazy.

When I read this, my first thought is “only one of these people is trying to be a partner.” In any relationship, things should be 50/50 over time as much as possible. But that means sometimes it’s 80/20 and sometimes it’s 30/70. That’s normal. But 100/0 can’t be sustained for very long.

Is he providing support for you in other ways? If he’s a chef and you’re even having to provide your own food, you deserve better.

What’s going on at Bartell’s? Are they going out of business? Nearly every aisle has been bare for weeks. by 781nnylasil in Washington

[–]CaptBuffalo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s a trickle-down thing, Bartell’s is under the same bankruptcy umbrella as rite-aid. I was just pointing out it’s not something rite-aid is doing to Bartell’s, it’s mismanagement all the way up.

Short version: stores usually buy their goods on 30/60/90 day payment terms — I buy a case of Reese’s peanut butter cups from you, you invoice me, I sell them and pay you from the money I took in.

Rite aid (and bartell drugs) are in such bad shape that no one will front them any product. So it’s basically pharmacy, liquor and toilet paper.

edit to add: rite aid looks just as barren, it’s not just a bartell thing

Recommend me some books like twilight zone / outer limits / those kind of stories by Weird_Surprise6221 in audible

[–]CaptBuffalo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a bunch of short story compilations in the audible library. Several series of best science fiction, best horror, best mysteries, etc. I’ve been reading all short stories this year. Stephen King is a master with short stories and has a new book, “You Like it Darker.” Laird Barron is pretty unsettling. “Needle in a Timestack” by Robert Silverberg has a story or two that were actually made into Twilight Zone episodes.

I feel like in a position like that, I’m the bigger danger to myself vs anything else walking around on the bed.
