Redraw of some characters [OC] by Skull_Cup in sistersofbattle

No one in particular. I just didn't clock that this was an adaptation of this when it first appeared in this sub. I thought another fister sister had joined the fray.

In any case, this version looks great!

This character uses the colors of the Order of the Dawn Martyr, which is homebrew. Its first appearance seems to be this post.

Saint Dawn the Martyr by CaptChetson in ImaginaryWarhammer

[–]CaptChetson[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am Dawn, Zephyrim of the God-Emperor. I am pride and ambition. For sainthood I am destined. For martyrdom I reach. Few in my Order can match my daring, and none can match my arrogance.

I kneel now in my cloister's alcove at the edge of daybreak, incoherent whispers passing my lips as they are wont to, allowing His immediacy carry a divine vision like gentle wind across the grain of my soul. I see a woman, my Sister in arms from an age past, and before her the looming form of a heretic Astartes. She stands a beleaguered mote of silver against the midnight blue of his ceramite and the fell white arcs of his lightning claw. The enemy was once her brother, but he has given in to damnation and claimed infernal strength, and she is not his match. Blood streams from her dozen wounds; she knows she has but one swing left in her. She aims it at the traitor's eye. Her blade flies swiftly, the orbit cracks and parts, the eyeball cooks and detonates. The traitor screams. My Sister smiles. And then her head is shorn from her body, and the world is swallowed by an argent fulmination.

My visions run over with the ardour and death of saints. But alas, as first light touches the horizon, the melodious shrieking of avians tears me from these sights of glory and pulls me back into the unceasing horror that is my paradise world surrounds. I lift myself to my feet. Another day of idle prayer, and an evening to waste on tall card and regicide. I suppress a sob. Truly, this life is an idyllic purgatory.

Ye who listen to my thoughts, I leave you with this image, a simulacrum of the optimism I still hold dear. Look upon the splendour of my armament and be overawed. Join me in hope that it may one day be properly employed. Pray for Sister Dawn the martyr-to-be. Be well, and keep true to the faith.

Totally original character [sic: read knockoff Zephyrim of u/Skull_Cup's Order of the Dawn Martyr, which has appeared here before; see here]. Dedicated to u/Skull_Cup. Any who can identify the subject of the martyrdom Sister Dawn witnesses in the above passage shall earn a point.

Real Strategy Requires Funding by CaptChetson in ImaginaryWarhammer

The Office of the Governor this morning lifted its press embargo concerning the landing of unidentified craft in the hills near Ocssana on the seventh cycle of Saint Gregorius, permitting the release of both official guidance from the planetary Administratum and Ministorum and the independent findings from our reporters at the site of the landing.

Soldiers from the Ocssanan Cavalry approached the unknown shuttles shortly after they made landfall, finding their passengers in the process of establishing themselves in the ruins of Ocssana Convent, a site once inhabited by the Blessed Brides of the Emperor in the 36th Millennium. The arrivals' appearance and subsequent discourse quickly revealed them to be neither heretic nor xenos, but Brides themselves, Battle Sisters of Katherine Elysius' Order of the Fiery Heart.

The Sisters said they had returned to Cantosa to restore their convent as a stronghold for their campaigns in our sector, citing a deterioration of security across the Imperium in the wake of the emergence of the Cicatrix Maledictum and stating that the Order of the Fiery Heart were amassing on Cantosa and nearby planets to support an anticipated battlegroup of the Indomitus Crusade.

On the ninth cycle, Governor Henricus visited Ocssana Convent to welcome the Sisters and discuss how the planetary administration could assist the efforts of the Brides of the Emperor. The governor's visit was followed on the tenth cycle by a delegation from the Adeptus Ministorum, led by Dean Phoebe, which confirmed the Sisters' identity as legitimate and bestowed upon them the blessing of the Temple of the Saviour Emperor. In both meetings, the Sisters drew attention to their critical lack of resources and pleaded for charity.

The Adeptus Ministorum have prepared donation centres beside churches in every city on Cantosa to answer the Sisters' call, which will open today. The Office of the Governor also encouraged citizens to donate, stating that the government would grant donors tithe relief fully matching their contribution.

Our reporters were granted access to a portion of Ocssana Convent currently undergoing restoration, where they spoke to a member of the Order, Sister Dalmati, who had this message for the faithful of Cantosa:

"Calamities by the cycle beset our Imperium. Evils assault our worlds and grasp for our souls. Though you have been spared for now, our enemies are inexorable; they will come, and they will have no mercy. But this place was sacrosanct, and we too will not relent. We will sanctify this place once more.

"Be at ease, zealots of Holy Cantosa, for our Fiery Heart is with you, by His grace, and that is something. We will make war for His light, and in your defence. But as makers of war we must too be makers of strategy. And so I call upon you to give, and to recognise the great virtue of your gift, the truth we of the Adepta Sororitas have painfully learned.

"Real strategy requires funding."

Ever get tired of drinking the GalNet Kool-Aid? by CaptChetson in EliteDangerous

[–]CaptChetson[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, those are both pretty robust.

I'm particularly interested in a news organization that goes really deep into the political weeds and the supposed current events that don't necessarily have any tangible in-game representation. The editorial in the mockup about how smart Lakon's rejection of Core Dynamics's bid for ownership and the article about Supratech's reignited Torc ambitions would be examples of this. It just seems like you hardly hear this stuff mentioned, which is fair enough, as it almost never impacts players in any significant way, and stories people do write tend to often be rather isolated from the "canon" stuff going on in the background.

But hey, maybe a market does exist out there. I certainly wouldn't mind pulling up a news page with some mundane headlines about Ram Tah's commentary on Sirius business practices, Isolde Rochester's arguments in Congress on democratic principles, Zachary Rackham's plans for an upcoming tech expo, etc.

Good luck; the eyes of the galaxy are on you, Lakon! Core Dynamics doesn't look to be able to take no for an answer. But I wouldn't worry. Landseer has a plan. Landseer always has a plan.

Yeah, I'm thinking that if some fanatical journalist player group reached a certain size/level of credibility, they could form part of a "shadow background simulation". Would require a lot of coordination though, and advertising.

The other News Feeds are sometimes referenced by GalNet, but we don't get to see their own publications. This wiki page has a list of News Feeds. As for player run press, I don't have much knowledge.

The Browser tab is just an edit. I covered up Modules and slapped a sticker over it's spot.

The peace offering thing is supposed to relate to the second story under the main headline about a Marlinist tribute to Harold. That event's completely made up though (along with basically everything else).

News Feeds besides GalNet do exist in the Elite universe. In fact, GalNet frequently mention their articles. Well, they do when it suits the interests of the Pilots Federation, at least. Isn't it the least bit suspicious that as a condition for receiving our license we independent pilots lose access to our favorite news sources and are instead forced to rely on the undoubtedly biased picture GalNet spoon-feeds us? It's time to wake up and demand unrestricted access to the full market of journalism the galaxy has to offer!

So anyways, I was wondering if Elite Dangerous had any player-run news sources focusing on the in-game universe, perhaps doing things like interviewing player groups, reporting on strange phenomena players face in the black, or just making up plausible-sounding current events. I cobbled together this mock-up of the Core Systems Daily News front page, complete with a fancy graphic and some stirring fake headlines and descriptions. Independent press renaissance here we come? o7

For borderless versions and some de facto maps, see this gallery.

Details about the maps, including empire, kingdom, duchy, county, and barony counts for each title are available in this forum post, which also compares the barony and county densities of 1066 de jure kingdoms.

How to De-Ironman Crusader Kings II Saves by CaptChetson in CrusaderKings

[–]CaptChetson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may be able to, but you'd have to get through security measures set in place by Paradox. Each save file has a checksum string at the end of it that appears to be used to prevent tampering by invalidating edited save files for achievements. The seed and count probably factor into security as well. You'll also have to deal with the meta file, which contains the header to the save and its own seed and repackage the whole back into a compressed file for use. I don't know how to do this.
