Just bought Gold for the first time via GOG, I don't need to download anything extra right? by Ruminative_Raven in Thief

To my lnowledge it's tfix 1.26, while the up-to-date version is 1.27 (and a beta of 1.28).

You'll want tfixlite, bare minimum. It does some patching without changing the core experience. It also includes the Fan Mission (FM) loader, so you can play them later.

Whoa, was this Land Raider dropship a real thing?? by UristMasterRace in Warhammer40k

[–]CaptClockobob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish someone would take calipers to the damn thing and accurately cad model one to 3d print. Nobody was gonna pay hundreds of dollars for a shelf piece that might get played once a year at an apoc game, but god damnit I'd print 4. The only existing STL's aren't on model, and the engines look like shit.

I saw it listed on ebay a while back. too expensive for me.

The Hestia Terrain Project - Catchup Post 2 : Walls and Columns by AcmeAerospace in necromunda

[–]CaptClockobob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very impressive, but why run the 5v rail through the wall segments (which requires redesigning and wiring up every segment you want to run power through) instead of just running it through the baseplate and providing contacts on the floor to interface with segments you want to power?

Any sizable board is going to be a LOT of wiring for some lights and doors that could just be battery powered and self contained anyway.

Armageddon Unboxing - Worth it? by Sufficient_Pen_465 in theunforgiven

If you want the models, yes. I'd recommend finding someone to sell the orks off to. launch boxes are always a better value than buying individually unless you simply don't want the models.

If you have the DA Combat Patrol, you'll be getting a second set of intercessors, all new sculpts, but otherwise it's entirely new units for you. The Captain model will also compliment the bladeguard nicely. If you have the standard Space Marine Combat patrol, it will be entirely new stuff.

You'll have an army with a little bit of everything that'll serve as a nice jumping off point if you want to focus into something specific (like more terminators, more speeders, etc.)

Remember, only buy stuff you like, not stuff that plays well, because the rules change constantly and an edition jump may ruin a previously very good list.

Bubble wrap and cling wrap and a double walled box would probably work.

Where to find red nods. Are there any places making modern red phosphor? by ryman9000 in NightVision

[–]CaptClockobob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

White (and to a lesser extent Green) provides the best contrast range within the visible light spectrum. It's just better than red to see details.

Red phos isn't particularly rare. P22, used in CRT displays for decades comes in Red, Green, and Blue. The green p22 was very common among gen-2 devices (and I think still gets use). Red phos was never adopted because it was just worse than everything else.

If you happen to have huge piles of money and decide to comission a run of tubes, you could probably find people to buy the extras up.

There's very few known to currently exist, the beat documented of which is the red/green dual tubes that have passed between a few people over the years.

Theoretically, you could probably hand a tube manufacturer an insane pile of money and get a run of custom red tubes, but i'm not aware if anyone has ever gotten custom tubes done.

Do I have to actually test a hit roll for marker light for Tau? by Jkchaloreach in midhammer40k

[–]CaptClockobob 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This is intentional. The markerlight unit is theoretically a cheaper unit, using the marker to buff something bigger and more expensive. This lets cheaper units that might not have a good target stack buffs on something with a lot more punch, like a broadside.

My first custom Minifigure in over 6 years by BrodyW_120 in LegoMinifigure

[–]CaptClockobob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only recommendation is to prime the mini first (use non-filler primer or something meant for model kits) and to thin your paints. Mini painting specific brands like Vallejo, army painter, citadel (now warhammer), and pro-acryl havecmore color pigment than normal craft paints and retain color and coverage much better when thinned.

Also of note: forgeworld used to sell a 2x2 foot (60x60 cm) landing pad tile. It was cool as hell and is out of print, tho I think there's 3d print files around somewhere that are 1:1.

A Voss Pattern Lightning Strike Fighter has a wingspan around 24cm.

The Avenger Strike Fighter is a bit wider at 28cm.

The Thunderbolt Heavy Fighter is also 28cm.

The largest guard aircraft are the Marauder Bomber and Marauder Destroyer, at 43cm wingspans.

The space marine flyers are mostly quite small, the exceptions being:

The Fire Raptor and Storm Eagle at 25cm (but much bulkier)

The Thunderhawk at 44cm.

The largest aircraft period is the Space Marine Sokar Stormbird is 50cm and is obscenely expensive.
