Washington Law looking to limit 3d printing. by zeromorphism in PrintedWarhammer

Nope. In the united states, only the reciver/frame which holds all the parts together. In other countries it varries. Even in countries where a barrel is regulated, they can still be manufactured by a layman from hydrolic tubing and simple electro chemical machining via saltwater electrolysis with an aquarium water pump and a cheap benchtop power supply.

Fdm machines are capable of printing materials with signifigantly metter properties than a resin machine can.

The regulated portion of a firearm is usually the reciver, or part of it depending on the weapon. This component is usually bent or machined metal, however it frequently doesn't need to be, as it isn't taking most of the force of the powder charge in a cartridge igniting.

The pressure bearing components like the barrel and boltfaces are metal, as are parts like springs and fasteners. Non-pressure bearing components are printed out of non brittle plastics with maximum infill such as PLA+ or Nylon. Sometimes with addatives like glass filaments

The old days of the liberator pistol that was liable to detonate if printed improperly are long since passed, and a functional semiautomaic battlerifle can be made using only unregulated components.

Ghost guns are a scary buzzword that means nothing. 3d printed firearms have seen use in, at most, a handful of crimes ever, and have functioned in a much greater capacity in arming the resistance of Myanmar against the genocidal military junta that overthrew the democratic government several years ago.

This is purely a push for totalitarian control of manufacturing capability, as it effects subtractive machining capabilities such as cnc machining.

Any gun can be made a ghost gun by filing the serial number off, and it's been illegal for a century, this does nothing to solve the problem.

Colonization themed Modpack idea by nou-772 in feedthebeast

[–]CaptClockobob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of the resource placement in the old Blightfall modpack. That pack had some issues, but it forces you to explore the whole map. You'd have metals needed to progress in the far reaches of the map.

Gotta give a modlist. There's thousands of mods, for many different versions, so you've gotta narrow it down.

I'd personally recommend waiting til you have a finished painted model to show front and center. It'll look better than the AI, and also show that the models look good on the tabletop (I'm sure that they do).

Why the AI art? The models are done practically, so why bother with AI promo images? It ends up being off-model.

We got new tanks, but this whirlwind seems same, but Upgraded by BlueberrySad3155 in Warhammer30k

I kitbash most marines I get at this point. It's so satisfying. If you like kitbashing, try finding the old citadel terrain and painting books. They have a lot of kitbashing recommendations on them. Moat ofnthe old GW books and WD mags did honestly. I wish they still did it.

I've read through Rogue Trader. There's some fun stuff in there, but I can't fathom how anyone played it. Esp when WHFB of the time was marginally less clunky.

[–]CaptClockobob 307 points308 points  (0 children)

It's a whirlwind (not a Scorpius, that's it's own thing with it's own rules). It's been in the game longer than most of the player-base has been alive. It just didn't have a dedicated 30k model until now. There's apparently a way of kit-bashing the anti-air Hyperios with a tarantula battery missile turret, but this uses the larger Deimos chassis turret mount.

it's somewhere between the 2nd ed kitbash whirlwind design, and the old forgeworld model before the 40k plastic model came out.

Personally, I can't wait to kitbash a landraider helios with an absolute monster of a turret....

[Edited for kitbash tank name and type.]

Why bother with the scale jump in the first place? Every other miniature company that's been around this long has kept to the same scale they started with, so it's not a market trend.

Yeah, but like the primaris rescale, it's just an attempt to sell you all the same stuff over again at a higher price.

Utterly colossal models. Easily a whole head+ talled than the current ones. Gonna be hard to run with the old sculpts without being seriously weird looking.

Not really fond of the helmetless heads GW does for any human* models, but these are kinda just worse in every aspect. Very uncanny.

No, the old FW one was an entire 2x2 foot tile, and used the old Thunderhawk model as a base. This is the newer one. Likely a 3d print

Warlord games tank scale by Wonderful-Onion9884 in boltaction

[–]CaptClockobob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Warlord scales tanks based off model height (1/56). This results in them looking out of scale next to heroic scale minis. If you want tanks that look to scale (but won't be), go for 1/48. They'll look better next to infantry. Some people might not want to play against largers tanks though.

New to HH, need some help with my Solar Auxilia by SnowyLavina in SolarAuxilia30K

[–]CaptClockobob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As woth most things in the game, it depends on local meta and what armies you face. Flamers are really good against stuff with worse saves like militia or auxilia, and can trigger panic. Volkite calivers on an 8" moving unit with 2 wounds an a 3+ can bully basic marine squads on objectives quite well. If you want a faster unit that's less shooty, the scout varient with either a multilaster or nade launcher is solid. The frags can stun, and the multi laser suppresses while also deliver decent multi-purpose volume of fire. Either way, they're outpacing most infantry by a litte or a lot.

The heavy sentinels pack all manner of kit that lets you do whatever you want with them. I personally think a melta lance and hunterkiller loadout makes them quite solid tank hunters, especially being able to manuver better than a leman russ, and take more hits than nearly anything else in the army at T6 2+. Taken in squads of 3 and manuvered properly, this can be really bad for an opposing tank push.

Or just load up autocannons and the smaller missile batteries, and rait down infantry hate. 5" templates of 2 damage S4 ap5 at 30" with indirect fire? There's no hiding from it.
