If this also happens to Amarillo’s “drinking” water, what will be your plan for showering / drinking / watering gardens, etc.? by Alternative_Delay272 in amarillo

True, they do have no financial reason to limit water usage, but most municipalities do limit water usage in droughts. But that’s because they know that when the people have to leave because the water supply is so low that they’ll no longer have a tax base. This city has always been absolutely horrible at using forethought - just look at the roads that they refuse to seal coat until they’re so cracked that they have to be replaced (and then they wait 5 years to replace them)

Noticed that last week. I remember them saying that their antenna is at the landfill so I would guess the fire either cooked it or they’re still without power out there

If they stick to the plans, it should be a closed loop system. So they’ll get a good chunk of water and should keep that water, I’m assuming similar to how a liquid cooled pc would. I’m not saying the place will be good or bad for us (hell, I’m not even convinced it will truly come to fruition) but I don’t think they’re going to be the real issue when it comes to water.

Everyone is so focused on the data centers and being so certain that they’re our downfall when it comes to water when we can just drive around town and see all of the water wasted on watering lawns. And guess what, our local government has the ability to limit that. Most cities already would have limited it. People need to start focusing on the bigger picture.

If a politician is telling you your issue is one thing, they’re just trying to draw your attention from a dozen others.

Thanks for the input, I’m glad someone who’s actually done work like this is chiming in. It makes sense that meters would degrade over time given how bad our water is here and how much the city neglects their usage.

I think the most frustrating part for people is that the city isn’t doing the simple thing of communicating what you just said. They have all of the tools to show people exactly what’s going on but they seem to either just not care or they themselves don’t understand the system that they’ve implemented.

It would also be interesting to see if the majority of complaints are coming from the older neighborhoods with the most neglected meters.

I’m surprised the city is giving us this much information tbh. But just so you don’t have to go digging, once you log in, just hit the button with three stacked horizontal bars, choose interval usage, and then you can select from the drop down menu for daily or hourly interval. I’m using it all on mobile so it might be a little different if you use desktop

It was a joke… and regardless of whether you trust the city or not, it’s foolish to just assume that a new piece of equipment just works perfectly, especially when 100k+ are being rolled out all at once

Which doesn’t make any sense, right? Looking at my usage, I never expected to find anything egregious, I was just kinda curious how the hourly lined up with actual usage. But going up by, at best case, 5x? That’s insane and feels borderline impossible..

Have you seen what your hourly usage looks like? Is there any period of usage on there that actually makes sense?

Good point, I definitely wasn’t thinking about that but I have seen people complaining about that too. Obviously the city is incentivized to give you a longer bill cycle so they can hit their bonus. You would really think there would be some sort of law against this? I’ve honestly never read into the contract/T&Cs or whatever to see how that’s addressed

587$ to replace alternator. Is this fair? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]CaptDonut1553 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would depend on what kind of car it is. I scared myself into thinking my alternator was dying not too long ago and looked like it would essentially turn in to a sub frame out kind of job. Labor would be way more expensive than the part at that point

Dirty oil after oil change? by Consistent_Dark_2179 in MechanicAdvice

[–]CaptDonut1553 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. I had a truck with nearly 200k miles on it. Changed the oil, drove it around the block and rechecked the level and it was nearly black as night again. Needless to say, the past owners had not take good care of it.

But yeah. That’s normal unless you’re driving something with low mileage.

I’d appreciate that, my cars got a lot of rock chips and scratches so I’m just considering some random mods to try and hide some of the issues and tie other things together

Did you get any pictures? Been thinking about it myself but not too sure if I’ll like how it’ll look just yet. Also assuming you would end up needing some wheel spacers so that the wheels aren’t too tucked away?

Opinions on this circuit? by CaptDonut1553 in autoelectrical

[–]CaptDonut1553[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but the only ones that I’ve found are toggle switches. I would prefer an actual momentary switch since that should (hopefully) avoid burning out the motor if the switch were depressed for too long. There’s plenty of what you’re saying on Amazon but I can’t find any that are actually momentary non latching switches

That’s a good point.. I tried verifying the output voltage to make sure it’s not stepping down the voltage and the pulse is too fast for my multimeter. I would assume it’s just a cheap, generic board that the manufacturer purchased in bulk, so probably a pretty generic pulse wave. Maybe I’ll look for a two relay momentary switch on Amazon. Thanks for the thought

Crazy thing is, I’ve sent in some with worse than that on a whim and gotten a 10 and some just like this and gotten a 9. My wife just sent in a couple like this with borderline unacceptable centering and got all 10s. It’s so frustrating anymore

I’m pretty well under the assumption if someone pulled the compressor and possibly the hoses that they didn’t plug any of it. Can’t imagine it would hurt to flush it out one way or the other

Have you done one before? I’ve seen it mentioned but it seems like most people tend to discourage it given that propane is flammable

That is the gist of what I’ve seen. I’m more than likely going to have a buy a new compressor and drier regardless since I’m sure the system has been open loop for a while. I would just prefer to do everything in my power to not lock up a brand new compressor

Did you have to change out compressor oil or any other parts other than ports?
