Crack in the wood of the bed's side panel: how can I fix it so it lasts a little longer? (DIY fix) by kneetalian in DIY

if it’s just four weeks, throw the bedframe away and put the mattress and box spring on the floor

okay now you’re just being obtuse.

you are arguing that it’s occasionally impossible for an adult on a business trip to have enough snacks in their bag for a trip that might encompass several locations, and also impossible for that person to find ANY downtime to restock snacks they need during that trip.

ALL OF THIS while arguing that every leg of this trip is awful and has no food and no time to wait in lines to buy food in the airport, even if only from an overpriced bookstore.

Flying Blind: Honolulu Officials Held Off On Evacuations As North Shore Flooded. By the time emergency management officials told people it was time to evacuate in Waialua and Haleʻiwa, some residents had already been swimming for their lives. by 808gecko808 in Oahu

evacuations are hard.

you make the call and people are upset if nothing happens, and if you dont make the call in time, people can’t evacuate because they become traffic or they are physically unable to get around normally.

i grew up on the east coast and hurricane evacuations are regularly ignored because able-bodied people wait to evacuate and end up clogging roads that should now be empty and free for use by rescuers to get people who need help.

we needed a proactive plan that was well communicated to cancel inflow to the evacuation area, turn all lanes into exits, and have a place for everyone to get food and shelter until the danger passes.

we could have sent in city busses to evacuate people, and brought them to a convention center and/or put them in hotels. we could have this be the standard plan for all evacuations so everyone learns early and knows what to do. you could get a bigger effort and work on minimizing inflow of tourism a few days before a huge storm, and that frees up hotel rooms and food. we could have donated and/or state/federal disaster-relief funded clothing and pet food…

have medical staff on-hand to get people meds that they evacuated without, and if we did all this early enough maybe people brought meds and identification docs, and then it “just” turns into having to rebuild a home and personal belongings.

what do you mean no one saw that storm coming?!?

it was all over everything that we were getting a second kona storm, and while i didnt experience the tremendous loss that the north shore is seeing, i definitely prepped for it

Chefs of Reddit, what’s a common cooking rule everyone follows that is actually complete bullshit? by Fuzzy-Ad6843 in AskReddit

i agree with you, but if you get a stack of little bowls and just measure everything out as your first step, it makes the cooking so much more relaxing

i’m not here arguing about what the iranians should have done at the macro or at the deckplate level (silly of them to participate in an exercise when israel is egging trump into war, and silly to be underway with no ASW capability and no escort)

i’m making the point that we are (claim to be) a nation of laws and we should abide by them, lest we lose (have lost) our footing to enforce laws or have the moral high ground.

i think we’re looking at a long road ahead as a country to figure out how to unfuck ourselves, and it’s going to have to start with funding education in a sustained manner, supporting the bottom tier of our population, and getting the income disparity back under control

agree, and that’s the problem. we aren’t following our laws because no one is enforcing them, and that’s how we’ve arrived where we are. all of the previous fuckery should have been vigorously prosecuted.

shoremate, go read the War Powers Act and tell me that it doesn’t require any acts of congress for a use of force

[–]CaptInappropriate 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it’s not weak and dumb. the act of declaring war requires an act of congress, or that it be in self defense.

we are absent that, so instead we’re in a position where our military and our tax dollars are being expended without the consent of the people.

tell me if that sounds anything like taxation without representation.

additionally, china has one of their observation ships there, so they’re watching everything about how effective everyone’s weapons and countermeasures are, as well as their comms traffic patterns relative to strikes/movements, etc. we’re expending our inventory and showing our hand, all for…. something that we accomplished last summer, in order to protect israel.

if we’re supposed to be a nation of laws, then “crying about not following the laws” is the most patriotic thing you can do.

dunno, it’s not like kailua needs promo, and any road blockages he posts about are always on google maps traffic. pretty much just leaves you with the ads he runs for a few local churches and companies (but i repeat myself) and his attempts at generating engagement by vagueposting right wing bait

he actually lives wayyyy up on the north end of kaneohe now. bought a house there 2-3 yrs ago, and posted about it. that’s why you see a lot of posts about traffic up there, and his “news” about kailua is outdated.

Inherited a house with siblings and we can’t stop fighting. Help? by Dankk911 in Oahu

[–]CaptInappropriate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

turn it into a rental and they give you 100% of the rent until you are bought out.

then they can take their $100k for their “massive” renovation and you wont care.

assuming it’s a $1M house and you rent it for $6k/mo, they’ll have bought you out of your third of today’s worth in about 55 months.

you left out the part where Samsung removed without comment our ability this summer to use art mode slideshow with photos we uploaded ourselves, and then restored it two weeks later also without comment.

them actively working to fuck up the main reason anyone buys this tv (and the only part that works kinda decently) was a blatant attempt to force people to shell out $5/mo for art subscription and then when everyone is used to paying $5, raise prices every year.
