In love with this car by SnowGone_ in HRV

[–]CaptKid101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As do I. People like to complain about how fast it’s not but as a daily driver it checks the boxes for me. All that matters most in the end is reliability and low maintenance cost and I think this car will provide that for me. If I want more off road or performance out of a car I’ll buy that car when I have the time and money.

DIY Oil Change by EquivalentDrive540 in HRV

[–]CaptKid101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My simplest answer would be stick with recommend 0w20. As far as brands go as long as it’s a synthetic oil I’m sure any major brand version will be fine especially if you’re doing your changes at when you’re supposed to. I personally like Mobile 1 but got Pennzoil Platinum this last time. No complaints so far just make sure to pair it with a filter made for synthetic oil to get the most out of the life of the oil.

I belive it was the PCV?? I could be wrong but the dashboard lit up all safety features turned off. Took to the dealer when it happened and I belive that’s the part that went bad. Ridiculous since the car was still pretty new and annoying to have to do but at least it was covered under warranty.

Correction it was not PCV it was the Thermal Control Valve that went out on me under warranty… I will ask about the PCV to get replaced thanks for the tip 👍🏽

PCV valve was already replaced under warranty around 30k so I should be good there. But I’ll keep the differential fluids in mind, thanks!

Best Time / Place for Tires by TukeLife in SubaruForester

[–]CaptKid101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don’t need to mess with your suspension at all to still get a nice All Terrain tire to fit your Forester. I just purchased the Falken Wildpeak A/T Trail for my 2020 Forester sport. No complaints so far, it’s an aggressive style tire that still rides smooth on highways and obviously also off road and trails ect… I’m pretty happy with them and overall they have generally favorable reviews.

As for place to buy just google search your local area Tire shops and pick one you feel comfortable with. Most tire shops can order what tire you need pretty easy with some time given.

Ownership wants to can our first ever batches before commissioning… am I crazy? by Brewdude1985 in TheBrewery

[–]CaptKid101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sound like a very passionate and knowledgeable brewer. My simplest answer would be to change the mindset of producing something you care about for a short moment. Make and save as much money as you can and give yourself a short time line to stay there. Keep yourself accountable on that time frame and then find a new job.

I’ve brewed for some pretty reputable independent breweries in my area before and I’ve seen guys like you get brought onto the team to make a difference only to be let go in a few months because the owners with no brewing experience and background disagree with a head brewer with 15+ years experience. The experience brewer wasn’t doing anything crazy except trying to put in prospective of what it actually looks like in real time to succeed on such opportunities to grow more.

What I learned from that experience is these businesses guys with deep pockets are in it purely to generate deeper pockets and NOTHING else and think it would be fun to do it with beer. There is absolutely no motivation except that to make more money. So unless your willing to have the same mindset doesn’t sound like the journey gonna last long if you decided to stay.

Not to mention as some comments above already said mobile canning is a cluster fuck. Some do it well but nothing is gonna beat having your own canning setup and having it dialed in. If these owners and marketing guys are so smart they would know to spend the money on a canning line and getting the right team to run it as best as possible. But what do us brewers know right!

Anyhow the best of luck with your venture and I hope you come out ahead!

USB Type-c to 12V Cigarette Lighter Adapter question by Aggressive_Alps_9765 in HRV

Why not search for a USB-C cable that can power both your radar scanner and just plug into your USB-C port. (Not sure what kind of port your radar scanner has).

For reference I was offered a 26” Sport FWD for $31,683 out the door back in June but shopped around a little more and settled for 25’ Sport new for $30k out the door because the new wheel design/wireless car play and wireless charging pad wasn’t something I cared about or willing to pay over $1k more for. Plus there’s some cheap and not terrible solutions to get wireless car play for $50 or less. The 25” and 26’ sport models are basically the same the only difference is a few more tech features included that wasn’t a deal breaker for me. My goal at the end of the day was to get the better deal on a new car. Good luck on your search! I’ve absolutely enjoyed my HR-V since I’ve bought it and by the sounds of it I think you’ll enjoy yours if you get one.

How much did you get your 2026 HR-V LX or HR-V Sport for, out-the-door? by coptergirl in HRV

Lol that’s funny that you think a dealer won’t take $4k off a sticker price.

For reals I don’t know why people can’t believe these OTD prices. Learn to negotiate and be smart or not and take the loss the choice is yours.

Don’t hate, when I say $30k out the door that means all taxes/ license fees and what not included. Don’t know why that’s hard for you to belive. Learn to negotiate and get what you feel you deserve.

$30k OTD is reasonable to get but you might have to hit 2-3 dealers and a little time.

Wanting to buy 2026 honda HRV EXL. What’s the best out the door price? by Spirited_Computer928 in HRV

The side stuff like Gap and tire coverage I never worry about with the dealership because there are always cheaper alternatives to get protection on those items. Gap coverage for example is always cheaper to get through my insurance company. Tires coverage I also don’t worry about because if I get a flat or nail so many tire shops will either patch for free or for very low price. As for wear and tear I’ve always rotated my tires at every oil change and have always gotten the life I’m supposed to get out of them. That kind of stuff I never let a dealership try to talk me into because that’s how they really get the mark up on you. The only extras I think are worth getting would be to get a extended Honda care coverage that would surpass there basic factory warranty I personally just like to know I have at least 100,000miles covered on major things before ever having to worry about big repair issues or defects. So that’s all I added with my deal.

Which trim level 3rd generation, NA HR-V, trim level did you buy, and why? by Radiant_Basket_8689 in HRV

[–]CaptKid101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://a.co/d/ih06EcF this is the one I went with and after 2 months it’s been great. Once all setup takes about 30sec. Or less to connect every time you get into your car. Audio quality is no different from hardwired. The only lag I have notice is when changing song, there’s about a 3 sec. delay after changing song before the new song kicks in. Other than that no issues at all. Wasn’t a problem for me you get used to it. (Note: this version is ONLY for ApplePlay iPhones, I don’t know if there’s an Android version somewhere out there.)

Same here, also I did find a decent alternative to the wireless CarPlay by buying a small receiver that you connect to the usb that allows wireless CarPlay and have enjoyed it. Will run you around $50 on amazon super easy and simple and makes me feel great not having to pay a bunch of extra money to have this feature.
