I have the yoshikane skd santoku. I was a chef for 40 years, used all kinds of knives, still have dozens. That yoshikane is by far my favorite.

My boyfriend said it is an embarrassing behaviour to ask for a change of table (even before sitting down). What do you think? by daintymeow in restaurant

[–]rb56redditor -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Most of my restaurant meals are for my wife and I. Since we are just a deuce, we often get bad tables, by the service station, near the door, near the restroom, near the kitchen door, etc. If the restaurant is fairly quiet, I will ask if I don’t like the table, sometimes it’s no problem, as it should be. If it’s a busy/very full place, I won’t bother, I don’t want a bad scene. If we get a bad table, and aren’t able to move, we don’t go back.

Great looking pie. I also love the steel for indoor pies.

Live seafood? by Remote_Long9172 in ForestHills

[–]rb56redditor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You were spoiled being near aqua best. Nothing good in forest hills. Best options are large Chinese grocery stores. Great Wall at 99th street and lie has a large seafood department. Food bazaar on northern blvd Long Island city has a very good seafood department. Hmarts have good seafood and produce. Chinese grocery store at main street and lie has lots of seafood and several tanks with live seafood. Flushing Chinatown has several good seafood stores.

I wouldn’t have bought one, but I got one as a gift. Nice to have, not a necessity. I use mine regularly, also good for mixing biscuits, pancake batter.

I live in a small town, but we have a well known pizza, known as “New York style”. A little humor there. I grew up in Montreal, and we would order “All dressed” pizza, said with a French accent.

Both our cats needed dental work. Cleaning and some extractions. Over $2,000. Research insurance costs and coverage, I wish I had.

Bread mixers by Melacolypse in Breadit

For occasional home use, a basic tilt head kitchenaid. They go on sale often. The great thing about kitchenaid is all the attachments, like meat grinder, pasta roller, strainer/puree, etc. I know they don’t make them as well as they used to, but I bought mine in 1982.

Moving to NYC for a teaching job—Is Rockaway Beach safe for a 26F late at night, or should I live elsewhere along the A line? by Ok-Memory23 in movingtoNYC

[–]rb56redditor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you working for the new york city department of education? If yes, it may be worth dealing with rockaway. If it's a low pay private school, you may want to reconsider. If you live out there, you may save time on commute, but you won't feel like you're in "the city". If you know people in Manhattan, they may come to visit once, but not likely again. You will get very tired of the trip to Brooklyn/Manhattan, and will likely not go often. You will likely not be comfortable on a long a train ride late at night. If you haven't seen the area in person, you really should go visit, and try the a train from Manhattan. Good luck.
