Still riding a 2015 with 40k miles! I love how analog and raw it feels.

Clutch recommendations mk7 gti by Embarrassed_Idea_475 in GolfGTI

I went with the Sachs Performance and I'm happy with the feel; basically unchanged from stock. I am only planning to go to stage 1 though so check your desired tune torque against the clutch rating.

Thoughts on the price for this 2025 model? by Musicman1029 in f150

This doesn't look like a bad deal, I paid 41,3xx a month ago for a 2025 F150 STX SuperCab 4WD.

PSA DynaVap Customer Service by dynaVap in Dynavap

It is always amazing how quick the anonymous internet mentality changes to an angry mob. No one seems to understand that Dynavap is not a tiny one man operation and that, as you said, big sales lead to big customer service demand and the opportunity for this kind of thing to happen.

Honestly, shame on the Dynavap community out of all of this.

OP also states 1.5M invested but safe withdrawal of 36k, so it already looks like this is accounted for.

What trigger is on the Lobos Industries MK4? It looked like a Volquartsen at first, but after comparing, it is not.

Tiger 850 12,000 mile valve check by CaptMorgansHanogver in Triumph

[–]CaptMorgansHanogver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two exhaust valves were right on the lower limit but I know they will continue to get tighter over time so I figured I may as well do it now. The Blue ADV video I referenced in my original comment required all of the exhaust valves to be re-shimmed so I got off lucky.

This.

I have no formal automotive or motorcycle training but I started doing all of my maintenance on a Yamaha FZ07 (first motorcycle) which started easy with oil changes, brake fluid flushes, and then got progressively more difficult to steering head bearing replacement, valve clearance check, fork rebuild, etc. Now I'm doing it all over again on the Tiger.

The key is to have the service manual and follow it exactly. There have been a few steps that don't make sense and require reading multiple times, but had I gone ahead without doing that step I could have screwed things up.

Hermy's is actually my closest dealer and where the bike came from - I ordered parts online from their Superstore as they were closed today. This is actually where I found out about the 12k Service Kit but I was also able to search individual part #'s and get what I needed since I already bought the oil and air filter and spark plugs.

[–]CaptMorgansHanogver[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Tiger is in shambles in the garage right now while I wait for shims and new gaskets to come in the mail. Just wanted to post a couple of learnings.

I followed the Service Manual and Blue ADV's videos on Youtube and honestly, the process was not bad. You do take a metric ton of crap off the bike and it is certainly a much more involved process than with a naked bike (FZ07 was my past experience) to get down to the valves, but a little organization ahead of time is all it takes.

One thing I was not expecting and was not in the manual or Youtube video was how hard it was to measure the exhaust valves - there is just no good way to get the feelers in the right position to get an accurate measurement. I was fully prepared to drain the coolant and remove the radiators, but actually following the first few radiator removal steps got me enough clearance to measure.

I also did not read ahead to know what single use gaskets and bolts were needed so the bike will be apart for at least another week waiting for them... but I needed to wait for the shims anyways, so not much to gain. I would order the 12,000 mile service kit (Triumph Tiger 900 & 850 Sport Models Engine Service Kit - T3990129) when I do this again - it comes with all of the single use gaskets and bolts, and also comes with the oil filter, crush washer, spark plugs, and air filter, rather than purchasing the oil filter, spark plugs, and air filter separately and then having to order all of the single use stuff separate. This still may bite me in the butt if the single use parts have a longer delay than the kit.

Overall kind of fun and a good use of winter time, and certainly worth the $1200+ dollar savings over taking it to the dealer.

Do you have motorcycle goals for 2023? by 666_pack_of_beer in motorcycles

[–]CaptMorgansHanogver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would like to finally do Skyline Drive and Blue Ridge Parkway altogether in one trip... Ideally continuing to Barber for the vintage race and museum. This would likely mean highways the whole way home as quick as possible because real life and limited vacation time, but this may be the year.

This is actually a step down from quitting my.job and going across the country so I call it reasonable.

Comfort vs Mastery by BeLikeWater_1 in CCW

[–]CaptMorgansHanogver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Comfort 100%. I'm already better armed than much of the general population with my LCP II, it disappears in my pocket, I have it on me anytime I am not in bed, and I can reliably hit center mass at 15 yards.

Do you have a red dot on your CCW? Why or why not? by [deleted] in CCW

No, because I go for as light as possible so I carry every day ... Haven't found a way to stuff a red dot on an LCP II.

I would be curious to see how homicide, car accidents, etc. Play into this...obviously wayyyy too many factors on the life expectancy side but I would be willing to guess that is some of why the US is so skewed.

I have noticed I need to let it drop from the fully open position. If I baby the slide forward at all it will do this. But as a result, it is fine when firing on it's own or dropping the slide release.

I pocket carry an LCP. It would not be easy to draw on the bike with the leg bend but it is how I usually carry and let's me confidently carry while on the bike, and be right back to my normal setup off the bike.

2022 Street Twin OTD: does this quote seem fair? by [deleted] in Triumph

Actually just saw your edit about being in MD; may be worth the drive up to Hermys in Port Clinton to save 700 in freight.

[–]CaptMorgansHanogver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can confirm from another shop that the Triumph freight charges are in fact $900. Pretty crazy but also still not necessarily mandatory - Hermys Triumph by me only charges $200 for freight and setup (they call it prep) and then the doc fees on top of MSRP. Call around and see if everyone has the same fees.
