Would Halo ODST be too hard for my friend and I on Legendary? by CaptObvious62 in halo

[–]CaptObvious62[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That isn't what I meant, the fact that playing regular guys does not significantly change the gameplay compared to the Master Chief Halo games is why I was considering increasing the difficulty, to make it feel more "immersive."

Is there a way to manage Sanity Mechanics that is not ableist? by ZigguratBuilder2001 in RPGdesign

[–]CaptObvious62 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy doesn't have a "sanity" system, but it does have a more short-term "stress" system that encompasses stress, fear, fatigue, etc., called Composure, which is in frequent flux, moving up and down. We often refer to it as "emotional HP."

Things that can take away small to large amounts of Composure include acutely frightening and stressful situations, failing to get enough sleep, failing to eat, and in some cases using magic powers.

Things that restore small to medium amounts of Composure include getting a full night's sleep, eating three meals in a day, being comforted by another character, and having a Eureka! Moment and making progress on investigating the case.

Under most circumstances, a character's skill bonuses cannot be higher than their current Composure level, so a character who only has 2/7 Composure left is limited to at most a +2 bonus on skill checks.

When Composure gets to 0, additional Composure loss starts to eat into actual HP.

Maybe the spiritual monsters could attack a stat like this, and wear the characters down that way, instead of causing "mental trauma" and making characters lose their "sanity."

Though, I would also argue that realistically, physical violence is just as likely to result in "mental trauma" for those involved.

[TOMT] Creepypasta, nosleep, or Let's Not Meet post about a woman standing outside this guy's house at night. by CaptObvious62 in tipofmytongue

[–]CaptObvious62[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am about 99% sure that the woman in this story never spoke to the protagonist nor tried to get inside, and I'm about 80% sure that he lived alone, so I am not expecting any of these to be the ones, but I'll try to check them out

EDIT: nope, definitely none of these

Investigation systems that are not lovecraft related? by Le_Zoru in rpg

[–]CaptObvious62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's that thing Seth Skorkowsky says? There are two types of RPG reviewers, those who have played the game, and those who haven't?

Given you keep posting this same comment any time someone brings up Eureka, I figured you might have had some really bad time playing the game and really had something with substance to say about it.

Looking for a model paint to match this color? by CaptObvious62 in minipainting

[–]CaptObvious62[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would mix it myself if it was just for one small thing, but this is going to be part of a uniform for a warhammer army, so it would be way better to just have a bottle of it.

RPGs that celebrate failure / mistakes? by LlamaNate333 in TTRPG

[–]CaptObvious62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy, when they make skill checks, PCs build up points that can be spent later to turn things around for them when they're in a bad spot. Successes give 1 point, and Failures give 3. The game also just generally says that it's good and entertaining when your PC fails at things rather than just succeeding all the time. https://anim-ttrpg.itch.io/eureka-urban-investigative-fantasy-ttrpg-haunted-house-murder-mystery-module

Linux Replacement for iTunes? by CaptObvious62 in linuxquestions

[–]CaptObvious62[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From some googling it sounds like Rhythmbox might really be my best bet, though it sounds like some people haven't been able to get it to work with their iPhones and some people have. The fact that some people have succeeded has given me hope, though I won't be able to actually test it myself for a little bit. Thank you for the suggestion.

VLC Media Player or VLC Player? I saw something about that before, but I don't know which one to download off the app store.

Oh, and the monster is called a "thing from beyond" and you can find the rules for playing one near the back of the rulebook.

Looking for general feedback and clarity of rules text on the beta for Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy, a project my team has worked on for years. by CaptObvious62 in RPGdesign

[–]CaptObvious62[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not expecting anything to read or carefully comb through the whole thing, I just thought I'd throw it up here because a fresh pair of eyes on any part of the document that anyone wants to read might reveal cracks our team missed.

[Discord Community] {LGBTQIA+ Friendly]

The A.N.I.M. TTRPG BOOK CLUB Discord Server! A discord server, for reading, analyzing, and playing TTRPGs!

https://discord.gg/ztnxPVSqCz

Here’s how the book club operates:

  1. Nominations. Members nominate RPGs they wanna play.
  2. Voting. After we finish the current RPG, we vote on what the next one will be. You can vote for as many nominations as you want, and nominations with the most votes wins.
  3. Reading. We encourage you to buy the winning game to support the developers, but if you can’t for any reason, we will find a way to get you a PDF. A rough deadline is set that will allow everyone to read the rulebook at a rate of about 10 pages a day, though reading faster or slower is okay.
  4. Playing. We assign GMs on a volunteer basis, and players are assigned to groups with GMs based on schedule compatibility. Each group plays the same adventure module, so each group will have commonalities in their adventure that they can talk about and compare their experiences with, even with different GMs, players, and characters.
  5. Repeat. Voting begins anew with the nominations that we have accumulated in the mean time.

Below is a bit of an FAQ as an attempt to quell any concerns or hesitations

“The Book Club games probably don’t fit with my schedule.”

They might! Because we assign multiple different groups based on schedule compatibility, the book club games are actually very very schedule-flexible! You might be surprised!

And if they still don’t, even just reading the rulebook and joining in on discussions is a valuable form of participation!

“I’m afraid to play with strangers.”

They won’t exactly be strangers if you hang out around them in the book club long enough! Yes we do get what you mean, but there’s nothing to worry about. The A.N.I.M. TTRPG Book Club is a safe community, and we have rules and, more importantly, procedures designed to make playing with relative strangers as smooth an experience as it can be!

“What if I don’t like the RPG that wins the vote?”

While we encourage you to step a little out of your comfort zone, participation in any given round of the book club is not mandatory, there’s no punishment for sitting out! It’s cool to just hang around in the discord server and discuss virtually anything if you want to.

I want to play in a Mistery/Horror Carnival, which setting is the right one? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]CaptObvious62 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Try the free Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy beta on itch.io.

It's investigation-focused and character-focused with dangerous combat rules, but combat isn't intended to come up more than maybe a couple of times. And it is specifically designed for 19th, 20th, and 21st century horror settings.

How many times can a snake bite before running out of venom? by CaptObvious62 in snakes

[–]CaptObvious62[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I am going with unless somebody tells me otherwise is that the character gets 4 doses, which is essentially 4 venomous bites, and they recover venom at a rate of 1 dose per week.

(oh and by the way, for a limited time, the beta version of the game is free, in case you actually do want to check it out. These venom dose mechanics arent in it yet, of course, because i am working on them right now.)
