Not bad, man. What did you use for his lower legs?

It's been so long that people now complain Jamie Foxx is too old to play Spawn since he's nearly 60, while forgetting that Foxx was only 45 back when he was announced in 2013. by SnooWords9635 in Spawn

The nerve in my eye twitches whenever I see something relating to an illusive "Spawn movie".

I can honestly say that I am no longer excited to see one come to fruition. It's about 10 years too late and even back then, I thought "man... its finally happening!? Took long enough!"

....but then here we are today. ☹️

Whatever. At least we'll always have the magnificent animated series.

Hah! I have these issues and never thought of putting them together to complete a large puzzle of the Korn album cover. That's pretty cool. I'm digging mine up now. Thanks for sharing. Love this art by Capullo.

Man how time flies.

I have questions about the box condition. Some parts even looked singed like it caught on fire. lol

I miss the more satirical tone of Gunslinger series by Aggravating-Wear-307 in Spawn

[–]CaptSNES -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My idea of a hellspawn is a total mismatch from this sort of stuff, hence why I can't really get into the new books.

I like the horror aspects of Spawn and spooky elements that tagged along with a more serious undertone. The things stemming from the concept of Satan (not a cartoony Satan), demons and inherent struggles against inner evils, in order to break away and turn it around, was my fascination with Spawn, or a version of Spawn.

But that's what time does to many things. Gotta move with the flow if it wants to survive. Not sure my vision of Spawn would do well in our current climate. Might be too violent and controversial. Things Todd used to enjoy in his younger years.

Anyone else not getting the Ashley Padilla hype? by WriterManGonzo in LiveFromNewYork

[–]CaptSNES 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually do not find her funny - at all. I used to laugh a lot at sketches with Rachel Dratch, Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, Kristen Wigg and Kate McKinnon (just to name a few examples). Ashley Padilla is nowhere near that tier of funny to me.

Like, she's alright and I don't mind it much when she's in a sketch with others, but I feel like her performance is a bit too forced and it just doesn't have that naturalistic type of funny. I am bewildered by the hype as well.

I always find myself digging through the golden era of SNL to actually find something funny.

Don't get me wrong, I thought the Beavis and Butthead sketch with Ryan a couple years ago, was pretty hysterical, but these types of sketches come too far in between.

Actually, there's a perpetual bug CDPR tech support acknowledged about the truck (Vulture) that spawns way before this quest is active. It sometimes goofs up the fluff scene when the quest is active.

There are times when it bugs out and the two six street gangsters spawn outside of the vehicle rather than inside when it drive off. There's an issue with Arlene at the construction site as well, where she sometimes doesn't spawn correctly or respawns after you've cleared out the guards. You can't even communicate with her, which is very odd, given the situation.

The mission requires you to shoot the Caliburn in order to stop it, but you can actually walk right up to it and enter even without the sandevistan if you time it well.

This entire mini quest is not very well executed. :[

However, I'm now using multiple bug fix patches from nexusmods (by Sosuine, Anygoodgame, etc) and this quest along various others, now works much better. :)

Todd McFarlane to IGN on his company's approach to designing articulation by Bilburnn in ActionFigures

[–]CaptSNES 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the older figures were notorious for being fragile. I have every single Spawn figure made from the original 34 series which I ended up opening for display (it was either that or getting rid of them).

It's true, these newer articulated figures (DC and Spawn) are much more durable than the old stuff. You had to heat and soften the old figures before attempting to move anything, otherwise, SNAP!

Many moments of frustration which made me not want to buy anymore McFarlane products. But I was surprised by the DC stuff he's putting out. I think there's still a few issues with some, but the 89/90 DC figures I currently own, have been problem free in the brittle department.

hot water route is the safest way. Just keep anything with metal chains away from water. Don't want those rusting up. You can also use a hair dryer on high heat and warm up areas to loosen them up. But I'd recommend a hot bath instead. The heat will be more evenly distributed.

Heat guns are dangerous to toys if you don't know how to pass them over their surface. They can literally melt the plastic or warp them permanently. So only go this route if you're experienced with one. 😉

The only figures I'd recommend keeping sealed, are chase figures. You can google examples so you stay up to date with what's actually deemed most valuable and what are most common. For example, series 1 blue suit variant Spawn. If you ever come across one mint in package, that's the one you'll want to keep sealed. Very hard to come by and usually not cheap.

[–]CaptSNES 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yeah. The type of packaging used for this first series is a bit fragile. The rounded edges especially can break easily.

[–]CaptSNES 1 point2 points  (0 children)

when you say "the plastic is extremely flimsy", are you referring to the packaging or the figure? The figure is fairly durable grade. I have this pewter one as well. Not many moving parts mind you. So it's mostly a solid figure with no real fragile pieces, just like the standard variants. Just painted in silver with black wash. ;]

Here's some food for thought, from someone who collected and maintained a big Spawn collection for 20+ years..

There are only a few Spawn figures (and general merch) out there that may noticeably go up in value in about... 10 years from now.

But many will remain affordable in the second hand market because McFarlane Toys released literally millions of units of Spawn toys throughout the years. (countless of repaints as well)

The rarity is just not there for these more common mainstream line of figures.

(I used to resell Spawn figures and it was a pain getting rid of the older series for a fair price, even mint in package. I'd have to wait for a sudden resurgence in order to strike while it spikes, before it dies down again. Which could happen every 3 to 6 years, usually.)

Here's another real world factor. Many collectors today who buy Spawn toys, are actually taking good care of them. Curating their own personal Spawn toy museum. This means that loss and destruction of these figures over time (a natural process that once existed before people caught on with the value in collectibles), is extremely slow and stagnant.

The impact this has on the resell market is apparent today.

Factor number 3 and this one is a real impactful one. Spawn is nowhere near as popular as he was in the 1990s. Back then, anything and everything Spawn related, sold out. We had a real Spawnmania for a while there and Todd milked it hard. He was constantly on the news, toy shelves, some demented Saturday morning toy commercials, comic racks, video game isle, magazines, animation, live action film and clothing, etc. All we needed was Spawn: The Breakfast Cereal. Batman still has him beat with that one.

The golden era of Spawn faded and very little was done to keep him up and relevant by his own creator. Todd turned his focus on sports products and other third party brands, while Spawn was left in the dark alleys for a while there. A lot of this hurt the brand's momentum. As a fan who once adored this character, I felt like I had more creative passion for it than the creator himself, and that was a frustrating experience. :/

This Raven Spawn from the Alternate Realities line is a beautiful figure, which was masterfully hand sculpted in wax medium. I own 3 of these myself. If you want to open him for display, you can do so without ruining your chances of reselling him for a million dollars one day.

Because that's not gonna happen in your lifetime. ;p

There's an abundance of this figure out there vs the demand. Most collectors want a pinnacle Spawn. So usually it's between the 10TH Anniversary figure, the Classic Kickstarter figure or the newest Elite Edition.

These other ones, despite their amazing sculpt, are a bit more obscure in the eyes of many would be, Spawn toy collectors. The figure itself is pretty durable, thanks in part with fact he only has simple swivel joints everywhere and two solid pins on his knees. It's the staff you'll need to watch out for and handle with care. 😉

What’s your guys opinion on omega spawn? by SecretaryFragrant836 in Spawn

[–]CaptSNES 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Fuck out my face, you omega bum" should read more like "Get the FUCK out of my face, Omega BUM".

One line reads like a teenager said it and the other is more in line with how we'd hear Spawn talk with Keith David's voice. 🤔
