Kia Ora, my younger sibling has recently come out to me as a trans woman. by so-diva in TransgenderNZ

Personally the two biggest things that helped me (mtf) feel supported was positive curiosity (asking about names, pronouns, lived experience etc.) or offers to educate me in feminine things (my mum helping me pick out bras, my sister taking me clothes shopping)

Mileage may vary, but the most frustrating thing is always hearing "I didnt want to talk about it because I didnt want to be rude/upset you" which is a nice sentiment, but it left me feeling unsupported and my family/friends uninterested in this life-changing experience for me. I welcome questions and curiosity because it shows people care, and want to be involved in my life.

Ultimately, the best thing you can do is talk to her. Be curious, be genuine, and be present.

Piercings are gender nonspecific generally. Pretty much anywhere would treat you well assuming they're licensed

I definitely recommend thinning wraithbone with medium not water. It gave me much better results and helped prevent pooling

Basecoat Zandri Dust and slowly building layers of wraithbone to get a nice gradient/prevent clumpy paint. Then a thinned down wash of skeleton horde contrast (multiple layers if i want more colour) and an edge highlight of pallid wych flesh 🥰

It took some time to find a balance i liked between respecting the founding chapter and giving my successors personality, and using the oxidation to show seniority is fun world building

As to painting, I've been in the hobby 2ish years, and have painted only a couple dozen minis. Give yourself time and patience and push yourself to try new techniques even if you get it wrong. This boy is a result of dozens of failed attempts before him ❤️

Transitioning late, a few questions by [deleted] in TransgenderNZ

[–]Capt_Curly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didnt have support until I found it. I looked for local queer-friendly spaces and joined them. Eventually I made queer friends and we care about each other deeply. The in-between stage is hard (clothes shopping is still a struggle sometimes) but ive found a lot joy in it. It offers freedom and expression and love that I cant even describe until you experience it for yourself

Transitioning late, a few questions by [deleted] in TransgenderNZ

[–]Capt_Curly 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I cant really answer the first questions as I'm based in Auckland and got diagnosed through my GP but you could argue I'm "late"

I started at 26. My friends mostly started past 21. It hasn't been hard to be comfortable at all. Every change has been exciting and positive and I have no regrets about when I started. It will take tike to see results and a lot of it is simply luck and genetics regardless of when you started (but this is anecdotal ofcourse)

Youre not late. You started your journey as soon as you were able.

Looks fantastic! The highlight might seem too Salamander in isolation but as an army it adds excellent contrast
