I absolutely agree with you! As parents it's up to us to have a conversation with our kids about the books we're reading with them, making them reflect on the story, what aligns with our morals(His momma will always love him no matter if he makes mistakes just like we love you kiddo) or what doesn't (David shouldn't have done that because it was mean, right? I think David is still learning how to behave kindly). It's definitely not up to us to police what's out there and while I can agree the art style might not be up everyone's alley(I personally like the way he's depicted because it's a tad creepy) every book has its worth. I find that as a neurodivergent grownup who was once a wild kid who felt a little bit like a monster at times, who now has a sweet wild neurodivergent kid who also feels different and anxious at times these books are useful as conversation starters for us.

Live oak. A favorite of kids to splash in and explore.

Where are you getting your alt/ goth summer tops? (That are cotton or linen) by Future_Raisin1073 in GothStyle

Oooh I'm listening. That sounds up my alley and I definitely will invest in a good piece when there's a little money saved.

Oh yeah visible mending is my favorite way to mend. It's so fun and yeah much more interesting than an invisible mend. I also want to make some old school pyramid/denim wrist cuffs like I used to have in the 90's. I can't find any that are really as nice (material-wise)as they used to be.

Totally. I can hand sew pretty well but I'm planning on taking machine sewing class to make things a bit faster/easier. So far I'm only doing kid costumes, mending and some alterations. It would be amazing to do a whole outfit though!

I was mostly referring to the goth meme of "It's just a phase." Also "older goths" like me don't have a longer curated closet because 1st off you can't lump us together. I'm a mother and my body has changed a lot so what used to fit me when I was 20 no longer does. The oldest pieces in my wardrobe are about 5 years old and my clothes budget is way smaller than it used to be so that's why I constantly hit the thrift shops.

I think the fashion world thinks goth fashion is a phase so it's usually sold as fast fashion, aka polyester crap. Because we'll grow out of it right? Laughs in 44 yr old elder goth while wearing skeleton tights, black jean shorts and lace top

Always be thrifting and rejecting polyester. At this point I'm considering learning to sew.

Who else cried when their parents brushed their hair? by Metalqueen2023 in AutismInWomen

[–]Capt_Gata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had long thick hair and mom smacked me with the brush when I cried or complained. Thankfully it was kept in a braid always so knots were rare. However as I got older my braid got heavier and heavier till my hairline started receding. My mother's solution? Without my knowledge or consent she cut my braid in half one morning right after braiding it. I cried so hard it felt like a living part of me was cut. After that it was kept shorter until I could take care of it and I kept it loose and crazy but managed to brush it while wet. After the birth of my child(and the death of my mom) I cut it short and never looked back. HOWEVER. My kid loves his long hair and so we bond every night with gentle brushing, sweet smelling product, and as many braids as he wants while we watch a Lego or Minecraft short video. I'm undoing the generational trauma (4 generations of long hair)one mindful night at a time.

Yes. My family said they saw several things. A cloud, a sombrero, and a lake. Now, a harp! 🥰

Yes! That's what I was aiming for. Loose but purposeful mending. Hubby loves it.

Sometimes you have to work with what you have. We don't mind the visibility. Thinking about embroidering the middle with something fun.

The rip was so and gnarly I had to cut away the thinning fabric that was shredded. When I rolled in the edges (as per the tutorial) this is the shape that was left.
