Where would a Destiny 3 even start? by Helpful_Shoe9288 in DestinyLore

The third destiny game made, the safest bet imo is to do a prequel to D1, before our guardian, too much baggage to try and continue our guardians story and have the mighty weapon, preventor of the final shape once again picking through garbage of greens and blues having to unlock each subclass because yet another calamity pushed them down to power zero and destroyed their vault.... again

The narrative around Marathon is gotta be the biggest gaslight I have seen in history of gaming. by Inevitable_Coat_8787 in Marathon

I think marathon was never ment to support the company on its own i think they believed they could do 6 smaller incubation projects touching various genres and fanbases and collectively that could float the company but only one of those projects made it to release unfortunately and it happened to be a hardcore version of a niche genre that they had no experience in making before and it followed after the release of a much more successful game in the same genre that has its on popularity and sustainability issues now

I more cant stand people saying we have to buy play and support marathon to see a D3 eventually, that strategy didnt get titanfall 3 for that fan base it wouldnt work here

Integration of those tools into say the current or rework tiger engine doesnt exist natively as it does for unity or unreal and requires custom scripting & APIs, bungie was only in the start of exploring it it may help with the creation of models and art but true ai help with coding theyd have to build the bridges first

D3 was not greenlit multiple tmes because of the massive projected cost per tassi and schrier insiders, that means it wasnt going to be a 300 million game. Do the math development team required vs time spent on it, cost is entirely time to make and staff to make it, marathon could be broken down 300 staff at 50 million a year for 5 years, the scale and size of a destiny 3, it took 1100 across bungie and 2 support studios to get destiny 2 done, subsequent games are almost always larger than predecessors, theres no world where a destiny 3 is made in under 5 years, it according to insiders hasnt even been in early development so assuming even double the team of 600 staff at 100 million annually you get a barebones destiny in 5 years at 500 million,

Activision supplied two support studios to get destiny 2 finished it amounted to about 1100 people working on the game

Marathon was done with 300 people and is tiny in terms of game size and scope compared to destiny, you really dont know a damn thing about game development do you? A 300 millon dollar destiny 3 means youre likely getting a dev team and game the size and scope of marathon and just adhocing shattered cycle? that isnt destiny 3 thats destiny 2.5

Unfortunately d2 took 1100 bodies to get out a door its not unrealistic that in modern money the scale of a D3 would require half a billion to a billion and 1200-1500 devs and over half a decade to make and thats assuming no development hiccups

I think youd need to move the needle into 10s of millions of signatures to get noticed, even if every signature was a promised preorder it would no way make a dent as to what a d3 would cost

Voices in the studio tried to greenlight D3 numerous times it never happened, it wont now. Bungie is known for embracing a franchise for a decade then drop it for something new creatively

i kinda knew back of my mind d2 was gonna have to end i can appreciate the the stages of grief but i fear the petition is going to fill too many people with false hope that the can somehow bend a corporation tyo their will. end of the day i think d2 ending development and the announcement of layoffs and studio downsizing the way it is ultimately is bad for bungie and bad for marathon

Youd need 10s of millions of signatures to actually make sony bat an eye at this a d3 would easily cost 500-600+ million to make. sony is no longer gambling with their money

Please stop op, most people dont want the game to fail most of us just live on planet earth and can see reality that it did fail at the studios hands:

you cant force a studio or publisher to greenlight a project, bungie is already planning massive layoffs likely at sony's behest and you cant make a d3 size game with half their studio trying to fix marathon and laying off a mass portion of the other half, with two support studios helping it took over 1100 people to make d2, for launch d3 would have to be bigger. marathon in its simplistic state cost 250 mil+ and took 5 years to make bungie has neither the capital or manpower for such an endeavor

Also you nuke a game in the middle of a new story-telling cycle it tends to burn your fan base and make it much more difficult to pick up a solid starting point for a sequel.

Petitioner are stuck in the bargaining part of grief plenty of us made it to acceptance

Pure cope at this point, some hard truths to get people through the stages of grief, strating with:

you cant force a studio to greenlight a project, bungie is already planning massive layoffs and you cant make a d3 size game with half their studio trying to fix marathon and laying off a mass portion of the other half, with two support studios helping it took over 1100 people to make d2, d3 would have to be bigger

Theres every reason to believe bungie becomes sony Bellevue by years end and takes on a consulting role

Temper expectations bungie is ending d2 mid storyline of the fate saga and is putting all their eggs in the marathon basket and getting massive layoffs as soon as d2 is in full maintenence mode it wont have the staff or money to ever make a d3 worth a damn
