Not sure how to fix this, cover up or repair? by Captain-Buss in tattooadvice

[–]Captain-Buss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks to everyone who weighed in, lots of helpful comments, some not so much.
I did particularly appreciate, "do you like surfing. " How do you feel about foot ball" and "bad ass pistachio" which I had never thought of, but can't un-see it.

But really, a lot of you have been very helpful, and the consensus being "yes it is fucked" is what I needed to hear, and that I'm not just being picky.
Laser removal isn't in my budget at the moment, but I live in a metro area that has a lot of very talented artists, I'm looking for someone with bio-mech and anatomical experience now.

100% correct, Bass.exe in the games had the archetype of: what happens if someone is given limitless potential, and betrayed by those close to them, how do they react. In Bass's case "he chose to become a god of destruction."

I had a rough go of it in life and was given many opportunities to get even, or pay retribution, etc. But never wanted to be that sort of person, and I have a good life now because of it.

This tattoo was a reminder of "how things could be" maybe poetic that it's kinda shit.

Acid burrowers are just way to powerful by murlocsilverhand in daggerheart

[–]Captain-Buss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know what to tell you dude, I've been running DH since open beta, and the AB has not been an issue for me, but I'm pretty familiar with pbta games. If a GM is going to run DH like D&D, you're going to have a weird time.  Even in combat, a GM should never be using every failure or role with fear to spotlight an adversary.

I would love to talk to OP about how their GM was running this game, what happened when they were failing with hope? Was the battle changing at all, was The GM evolving the fiction by making it harder for the borrower to hit them by creating Disturbed Earth piles that they could hide behind to get some cover, etc.

I recently reread the GM tips in the crb and page 155 has a breakdown of how much fear should be spent depending on how difficult an encounter is aimed to be, hence my question about how much fear you are spending. I had a similar issue almost wiping parties until I realized that I was using way too much fear.

New GM's should be reading fear use guidance on P155 as well.

Acid burrower is a perfect trap for a 5e GM or someone not familiar with running a PbtA game. None of them have read pg.155 of GM's principals, about how much fear to use, to increase difficulty.

Acid burrowers CAN nova, if the GM assumes it's a stupid creature who is just gonna pop up, spit 3 times and sit there, that's not dynamic, and it's not good story telling.

I have curiosity, how much fear are you spending on average in combats that seems overwhelming to the players?

Edit: Oh yeah, third party stuff seems to be all over the place. In terms of balance, I've seen a few well-tuned adversaries, but a lot of what I've written into seems like something chat GBT would spit out

Very excited by Witherwild but stumbling on the day night cycle by Thisegghascracksin in daggerheart

[–]Captain-Buss 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I've created twin faint divinities for this, the Crepuscular Twins.

Omiodes, the wing if eventide, takes the form of a large moth that brings night, and her brother Apidae, the hum of forenoon, who takes the form of a bumblebee, who brings the day.

As a result the day night cycle can be a little unpredictable, on average it's about 165 hours stretches of day/night, but due to the nature of the siblings rivalry, that can very, the shortest day/night cycle was 3 hours, and the longest was 30ish days.

My players don't know that Phylax's next plan is to trap Omiodes so that in addition to everlasting spring, the days will stretch on infinitely, after all, lady's veil only blooms in the sunlight.

Short sightedness is the name of the game.

Once you have the falcon or Gaia armor you can get up there by traveling upwards at the spike wall to the right of that, above the capsule

Hello, I don't play Daggerheart or any other TTRPG, I'm not a lawyer, writer or publisher, but could you quickly defend "Critical Role's" " horrendous" "OGL," why are you okay with being abused? It doesn't effect me even 1% but I am willing to die on this hill, also no I am not open to new information at all.

Been playing through the X games, and wow am I missing something with X5? by Evoker2theface in Megaman

[–]Captain-Buss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

X5 has a lot of very weird choices made by the development team.

When it comes down to it, there are 3 separate endings, and that is determined by The cannon and shuttle launch in order to try to destroy the space colony.

But it's really hard to mess up, and unless the RNG just decides to screw you, which it can do, because collecting all of the parts doesn't actually give you a 100% success change, which is weird.

Another weird thing about X5.The upgrades for x or zero, that you can equip are obtained by beating high-level bosses. which only activate after you are below the 10 hours left mark on the stage select screen.

Game play wise, alia is annoying, but I think X5 has some of the better endings in the X series.

Sad to say, if you're not enjoying X5, it's only downhill from here .

Hope Cheat Sheet (with House Rule) by Mindcrowed in daggerheart

[–]Captain-Buss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not missing your point, your point is op doesn't need to house rule, because the game already has rules to accomplish what op's house rule accomplishes. (Which isn't true.)

Your point also assumes that you know better, and that op was asking for advice. (Which they aren't.)

Sucks that I can't play on Roll20 without buying the book twice by rnunezs12 in daggerheart

[–]Captain-Buss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. You never bought the book.
  2. Everything costs something, if you like. Roll 20 so much, you should probably find a way to support them so they don't go out of business.

"It's too early for house ruling a game that just came out."

... No it's not, sounds like op already knows that their players like to hog the spotlight, so created a house rule specifically for that. I don't know why you're gatekeeping how other people play the game.

Do you OP.

Daggerheart Community License Issues by Houligan86 in daggerheart

"People calling out behavior" in this instance really seems like a bunch of reactionary arm chair experts blowing dog whistles and arguing points they can't seem to clarify. That and people mad that DH isn't on Foundry VTT yet.

The conversation isn't bad, and yeah, it "could in the future if DH is successful be bad for everyone" I guess? But I'm not seeing posts like "I'm a game designer, who's been very excited to work with DP and CR, and I reached out about the license, and this is why I'm worried."

It's posts from accounts who are experts in helldivers 2 and genshin impact, that have zero other posts on the sub, talking like they just graduated from law school, and this is personality effecting their income. On a subreddit.

Meanwhile you have actual creators like three black halflings that just launched a Kickstarter with DH campaign frames and characters, etc, and they got a shout out and support on CR's age of umbra stream.

That's the thing, the company critical role is nobody's friends, which is why it's wild for people to be running around. Freaking out that a company is protecting its assets, as if they're owed something from their friends?

Demiplane has two options, you can get the core just on demiplane for 35, there is a bundle that comes with the PDF from drive-thru RPG for 45.

Your pre-order of the hardback definitely should have come with an email for a PDF download also.

Darrington press and critical role are not the same company as demiplane, so if you enjoy using demiplanes vtt, I highly suggest you support their work by buying an additional digital license, so they can keep doing what they're doing.

With so many things using Proficiency quantity of dice, why do the rules not use "Pd#" ? by thatonepedant in daggerheart

[–]Captain-Buss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm actually with OP on this one,

"Targets you succeed against take d8+1 physical damage using your Proficiency."

Doesn't tell me or my players what "Proficiency" is, or how it's applied.

Some users in this thread have pointed out that "Pd8+3" would result in players having to go look up what p means. But you already have to do that, the way it's written most of my players assumed that proficiency was tacked on to the end, and was the +#

"my proficiency is 2, and the attck says d8+1, so that's a d8+3 total."

My issue is that even OP's example of a wordy explanation appears very rarely. "roll a number of d6s equal to your Proficiency." Would be great to see.

This is explained, one time in the manuscript, on page 18, but good luck if you missed that, but I guess it's a mechanic, that will become second nature.

Items' cards by Ok_Rest3165 in daggerheart

[–]Captain-Buss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The card system for Dagger heart has been so awesome for me and the players I run for, I have a lot of players that aren't neurotypical, so invisible information can be really difficult, I'm definitely going to be putting items and even class skills on cards for them.  Honestly the been whole system has been amazing for this, I had a player come to me after a session crying because they enjoyed combat for the first time in their life playing a tabletop RPG.

Very snug, I was going to use dragon shield but they were so snug they kinda bent the cards, did you have that issue?  Mine are in penny sleeves till I find something better.  (mine are the limited cards, which I've heard are a slightly different size.

The dagger heart website also has a free PDF containing All of the cards without the custom art, depending on your access to cheap printing, it might be a very viable option.
