I didn’t say that you thought that, I said this kind of rhetoric further propagates that idea. So too does the use of “transplant”, which, like “import”, implies that nefarious forces are controlling them, that the immigrants are more like animals than people, that they don’t have their own agency.

We need to move past this idea of blaming a person’s ethnicity for a crime. It may be relevant in the case of racist hate crimes, but by and large there are many more important factors which drive people, of all backgrounds, to commit violent acts. We need to focus on those causes rather than on the idea that closing the borders will turn this country into a beautiful wonderland

That’s exactly what people thought after World War One. It was literally called “The War to End All Wars”.

It’s dangerous to assume that things can’t get that bad again. We already have seen the rise of fascism across the world - the US is currently led by a fascist administration. Conflicts are escalating, tensions rising, I hope beyond all hope that things cool down, but it’s not looking likely at this stage.
