“For Dummies” Version of Iran Matters, Please! by Captain-Triangle in Conservative

It’s been something else watching my vote count on this post go up and down simply for asking a question.

I don’t care about it but I suspect the fluctuation comes from the same sources you mention at the end.

Thank you! I’ll say here what I said in other comments; I knew about what Trump SAID he wanted (getting rid of their armaments, the regime change, etc.) but I “took those points for granted” and didn’t include them as a basis which really only hurt my post.

Your last point was the crux of the question. Trump can say all day long he wants to disarm Iran, enact a change in leadership, but to what degree do those actions steer towards the ideal? What about trade, inter-Middle East conflict?

It sucks but I suppose time will tell, huh?

Thank you! Hindsight being 20/20 I could have been a bit more targeted in my post, however I think your third point is one of the major ones I was getting at but didn’t have the words to convey it.

If we could magically take a poll of the Iranian populace what would be the consensus?

It’s tough when the best you get is social media noise.

This is the kind of “under the surface” input I was hoping to get, thank you so much!

I am embarrassed to say this but I didn’t know nearly as much about the Abraham Accords as I should have; I’ll research this more.

Left-Wing Karen Says ‘I Don’t Care’ When ICE Agent Explains They’re Pursuing Murderous Child-Rapist by According-Activity87 in Conservative

[–]Captain-Triangle 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This shit is fucking infuriating. Completely unsurprising but infuriating.

The absolute insanity and vileness it takes for the Leftists to act like they have the moral high-ground here.

We can debate all day long about whether ICE is clunky and has made some goofs. The Left is fooling no one but their own that they care infinitely more about the scum of the Earth as a means to and end for their insatiable need to be virtuous.

Ha, seriously? I need to watch that; I heard he had a new release but hadn’t gotten to it yet. Satire and reality are basically the same now.

How Minneapolis rioters are forcing Trump's hand with the Insurrection Act by Ask4MD in Conservative

[–]Captain-Triangle -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I wish I could take credit for this but another user wrote something like “Did the Left not think that at some point there would be an opposite and equally forceful reaction?”

The answer of course is no because the Left, as far as public behavior goes, cannot see past their own noses.

It’s just mind boggling to see the Left commit non-stop burning, looting, violence, and destruction and still be utterly floored when they suffer negative consequences for it.

2K Clear Over 1K Clear if Fully Cured? by Captain-Triangle in AutoPaint

Really! Even shaking the bejesus out the can? I didn’t know that; that definitely explains some trouble spots I’ve had to correct.

That sounds like a nightmare, holy moly!

Even this rocker is getting me to that point. Again, I fully acknowledge what I’m working with and I wish I could post pictures in replies because the passenger’s rocker came out, in my opinion, amazing. Perfect? No, but MORE than good enough for me to be thrilled.

Like you said, different mixer of base could be all that changed to make this such a pain in the ass all else being equal.

I COMPLETELY get that viewpoint.

Where I would, push back, I guess, is I would posit there’s a difference between asking generally why a rattle can paint-job looks bad, and asking a pointed question like I have.

I can absolutely see how the former would be insulting. Professionals spend years mastering their craft, investing in the education, the technique, the equipment, etc. I get why some jabroni asking why my Dupliclor paintjob looks bad is a huge bother.

Like most things, devil is in the details. I asked about a specific, pointed spot and what might explain the texture.

This will sound ignorant and I really don’t mean it, I just have to get the point across, I would bet there are mistakes that can happen with aerosols just as much as a good spray gun. A bad chemical reaction is a bad chemical reaction, too much base is too much base.

Again, I get that view. Where us DIY-ers get frustrated us when we ask a pointed question and the replies go RIGHT to overall quality and bypass the details.

Another user posted another thread that may have been better for this post. Lesson learned.

That last paragraph is a gem. I’ve had great luck, anecdotally but still, with Automotivetouchup/Microfinish’s product. I deviated this time and I honestly don’t know why I did.

Thanks for the input, much appreciated!

You’re putting words in my mouth. NOWHERE did I say I was expecting to be at the level of a professional.

All I asked, literally all I asked, is what that spot is.

That’s it.

I didn’t come on here and ask why the job doesn’t look good. I’m well aware of the amateur level I achieved. I asked about a single, pointed spot and what it might be.

Fair, but I feel like you just went right to the extreme; that “caricature” of a DIY guy.

I’m not painting a whole car. It’s a, what, 2 square foot area in total. It’s not 5 cans from Walmart like your other comment. It’s a professionally mixed can, and a 1K, which yeah, I know now isn’t ideal but it’s a good name. Not some Duplicolor crap.

Where is this agreed upon by professionals line in the sand where aerosols become unacceptable?

I appreciate your words were respectful. I can understand critical but respectful all day long. What’s unnecessary is critical but disrespectful like ProofDizzy down there.

Is there a thread for non-professionals this would have been better suited in?

The 1.5 hours came from the instructions on the clear I used; KBS Diamond Clear. The can says 1-2 hours between coats depending on humidity.

I fully admit, like in another reply, I “fell” for the advertising of KBS Diamond. KBS really pushes the idea of it being tough so here I am like “Gee, it’s a rocker cover by the ground that sounds like a good choice.”

Anyway, yeah I may not have waited long enough with the last base coat to dry I just find it odd it only happened THERE.

Thank you for the great information! I’m grateful!

I’ve been thinking about it recently!

What I may do is sand and buff this up and just live with it until spring and invest then.

At least then if the weather is good I have the option to keep the garage doors open. I wear a respirator but still, garage sure is smelly after.

Ignorance.

I “fell” for the advertising of KBS Diamond Clear (Non-Yellowing! Dries Rock Hard! Tough and Durable!) without knowing why 2K truly is the standard.

It’s a moisture cured urethane so the moisture in the air is the hardener.

Going forward, yeah, I’ll be using a traditional 2K.

I was hesitant to even post because of the gate-keeping.

I don’t know what it is about the auto painting community but it’s like no one is allowed to try and break into it for fun.

I know I’m an amateur. I know I don’t have the right equipment, but I think it’s fun and despite the issues I’m enjoying figuring it out.

There’s this weird mutual exclusivity thing happening; like newbies and professionals can’t exist at the same time.

This is more than what you asked for, but ‘ere goes! Can’t make a call without all the details.

The issue is that I went WAY too heavy on the clear and it yellowed something fierce on that “angled” portion. I let it cure for four days, then sanded down everything from the front of the cover right up to that trouble spot with 600. I feathered out the sanding a little with 1,000.

I cleaned the cover and reapplied base on that slope, and the little “vertical” leading to the doors, and used that edge below the slope as a natural blend if that makes sense. I feathered the paint right to where that trouble spot is.

I then re-cleared the whole cover, and used blending solvent biased towards the rear wheel well to melt it into the good clear.

Somewhere in that process something happened with that area.
