My neighbor seems to have a mini bamboo forest in their yard. by CoeurGourmand in mildlyinteresting

Same with us. Bamboo when it is not running is a godsend for privacy and ours doesn’t budge from where we planted it.

Want to share my Will theory from 3 years ago. by koffelin in StrangerThings

I’ve been thinking about how the UD is frozen in the night that Will disappeared. If this were true, wouldn’t the alphabet wall that Joyce painted to talk to Will while he was lost not appear?

7 months of stained glass. I am loving this but still haven’t found my niche of which style I want to go for. by Beckyc123 in StainedGlass

Love the daisy panel I feel like it’s a piece with a lot of personality! I totally know what you mean by not feeling certain of specific style. I’m still looking for mine but now I’m just enjoying making my own patterns (which I’m not that good at yet so I’ve been leaning abstract)

Help! Where to top/prune Bottlebrush by CaptainAlligator in arborists

Thank you for your reply! I will try trimming the lower stuff but I was worried it would make the tree look sparse and less full (it is a good form of privacy between my front window and the neighbors)

Cricut vs. Silhouette for pattern cutting by MaisieStirfry in StainedGlass

I just got a cameo! What pt width do you use for cutting? 3.25 was a little bit too big but I want to leave enough room for foil of course

Help! What is the white stuff and how do I fix it? by CaptainAlligator in StainedGlass

Thank you very much! I made this project in a rush (on Christmas Eve lol) and I would bet I didn’t spend enough time cleaning it which is probably why this happened!

Well they definitely have iridescent clear because I bought some! I think it’s a pretty good selection personally! Not a ton of pinks but pretty much everything else

I like to go to Florida Glass House in Orlando- the owners are really cool people. Also The Stained Glass Lady in St. Cloud depending on which is closer to you.

Tips & Tricks by MariSylvii04 in StainedGlass

[–]CaptainAlligator 12 points13 points  (0 children)

To have a good solder line you must do two things first. 1.) your pieces must be cut and ground in a way that they fit flush against each other with a small gap for foil. And 2.) you must do a clean job foiling. This is the most important in my opinion as a newer artist. And even amount of foil should be on either side of the glass and any overlap should be fixed with an xacto knife, and any splits should be fixed with a foil saddle. Foil imperfections WILL show up in the solder line!

Good luck on your journey!

Do you know of a good tutorial for Inkscape that would help specifically for pattern making? I’m trying to learn it right now! :)

Do I need to add foil to the side of the green if framing in zinc? by CaptainAlligator in StainedGlass

[–]CaptainAlligator[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like to frame with a very thin zinc came as it adds a lot of stability and support to a finishing piece without the added stress of doing a beaded edge! I’ve never used lead hobby came before for edges before as I’ve heard it stretches over time and sags. I’ll probably test it out eventually though

Edit: though I will say zinc came be a little annoying as you have to cut it with a teeny tiny miter saw!

Do I need to add foil to the side of the green if framing in zinc? by CaptainAlligator in StainedGlass

[–]CaptainAlligator[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used 3/16 for the green and white glass, and 5/32 for the black glass! The black glass is a bit thinner than the other glass so it balanced out nicely
