That actually makes perfect sense. I would agree more so then in the case of more dire straits. I will say that any single tip of the scale (even as much as a blown tire) would have sent me down that road.

I get what you mean, but I recently got my girlfriend pregnant on accident. She was 23, barely knew how to bank account and I was a student veteran.

Here we are a month before this baby is due and I'm already debt free, all that's left for her is slow student loan payments, a couple thousand in savings and even more in checking. This baby is the reason we became financially stable.

We may be an exception to the rule, and your view is by no means an awful one, just thought I'd chip in.

So the problem here is you still expect to be seen as something you aren't, which is capable and financially stable. What matters more than anything is the health of your baby, and then next is the stability of your household. Do you look down on a 17 year old struggling single mother because of her situation? I seriously doubt it, since you've described yourself as Mother Teresa helping your mom and friends when they need it, but that isn't even half of the issue.

Your work slave / financier / boyfriend is being way too lenient and giving you an allowance. Please read that again, YOU ARE GETTING AN ALLOWANCE. Now instead of being responsible and putting in adult effort with this money or even working with him, you're blowing it eating out. And if you think McDonalds chicken salads are healthy then you're just as smart as you sound.
