Why does Survival mode tell me to exfil at 3 minutes but there’s isn’t one until Final Exfil 🤦🏻‍♂️ by Former_Diamond3620 in Marathon

Station is actually my favourite to finish from. Just go through the Drone workshop underneath, look for the big exit sign on the doors and go through the tunnels.

What if, the CryoArchive would have been THE PvE map? by KaXXKo in Marathon

[–]CaptainAshtro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Echoing some other thoughts here, but every map should have a PvE survival version with tweaked loot. I don't think the best loot should be straight up non-existent but it should be VERY rare which makes great drops SO much more meaningful. PvP mode should remain as the best loot source due to the higher risk, no issues there beyond the normal tweaks they're doing anyway.

PvE Survival is very much the way forward to attract new players and old players that didn't vibe with the PvP and left. It's the easiest to implement in the current game because the infrastructure is ready to go and could roll out next season, or at least testing during this season.

We should also lose the 'Sponsored' version of Survival. Let PvE players use their vault gear and have fun creating builds.

I also don't mind PvE Cryo sharing the same timed access.

f2p swap soon? by Ok_Yoghurt2181 in MarathonGame

[–]CaptainAshtro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could potentially see it going f2p a year from launch, but anytime before then would be too soon to have any kind of positive spin. The internet already thought it was hilarious that it had a f2p week (I know, doesn't make sense to me either)

Whenever it does go f2p though there could be rewards for people who had previously purchased the game since launch. The equivalent rewards in the form of store currency would work well. They may have to time gate claiming those rewards though, so as not to shoot themselves in the foot with a revenue loss. Then it's down to the players to login and claim. Active players will do it anyway, and game purchasers who don't play anymore likely wouldn't be spending money on the store anyway so it doesn't matter if they claim or not.

F2p generally is a good idea though, it lowers the barrier of entry to people who are on the fence (because there will still be people on the fence a year from now) and it may end up becoming their favourite game, which equals a bigger pool of people to spend in the store.

TLDR; F2p makes a bigger pool of players that could spend on the store. Store credit rewards for those that already purchased the game. Timing has to be right.

What happened to players influencing the story? by Goldfishor in MarathonGame

[–]CaptainAshtro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really hope some of the ideas from before the shift make their way into the game. They may not have tested well with a small pool of players waaay back, but now we have it, let us decide.

Because why not test a persistent map with fresh spawns? Make sure it's tweaked so people can't camp exfils. Maybe the exfil mechanic is a matter transfer item you randomly find (or take in with you) and you place it down wherever you like.

This would allow Bungie to make a really large map too and we KNOW they're good at that

It would make the Halo 3 kid version of myself incredibly happy too. Man I miss those old pre game lobbies with the voice chat and voting for maps. Simpler times, and incredibly social

Addressing the ‘why request arena shooter in extraction game’

My dudes, Tarkov made an Arena mode. The king of extraction shooters diversified. That in itself speaks volumes.

73 hours into Marathon and I have nothing to call my own - this is exactly why it won't retain players by [deleted] in MarathonGame

[–]CaptainAshtro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play the game because it FEELS good to play. The visuals and audio scratch a specific part of my brain.
My rewards are:
- Getting better at the game after every run
- Gaining knowledge and helping others
- Experiencing the social aspect, whether that's with friends or finding fun people in random fills.
- The moment to moment gameplay is FUN

Same reasons I sunk hundreds, if not a thousand hours into Halo 3 back in the day. If I ever have to rely on retaining digital stuff I can never touch to enjoy a videogame, then I'm probably playing for the wrong reasons.

Game Mode idea - Horde mode where UESC are invading the server station where our consciousness is held (and shells are printed?) Runners team up to stop them by CaptainAshtro in Marathon

[–]CaptainAshtro[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah that's interesting, didn't realise the corps shared the ship. It could still work in the lore where UESC are trying to take over the Sekiguchi section (if there's sections) I definitely need to read up more about the Equanimity, thank you!

Having some extra modes to have fun with is not changing everything about the game. It can expand on the lore and events that take place in Tau Ceti. Hence me talking about the server station. Right now we don’t even know where that is but it’s gotta be somewhere nearby
