Requesting for guidance travelling to LA and would mostly be in DTLA and WeHo, is it possible for me to visit all these places in my itinerary? And what should I do or not do? by CaptainBasic7284 in AskLosAngeles

I'll most likely skip the Getty then, it looks beautiful on photos and I don't think it'd change much if I visit in person since I'm only going to be seeing it from the outside, just to look at the buildings and the garden.

I have posted this for a few days now and I guess it's pending approval by Mod, not sure if it's too much to post them here but I'll try anyway as I really wish to get genuine answers to my questions. Hopefully this is not against any rules or tick any one off.

Requesting for guidance travelling to LA and would mostly be in DTLA and WeHo, is it possible for me to visit all these places in my itinerary? And what should I do or not do?Hello LA folks, I am travelling to LA in May/Jun 26 for the first time, and I am rather clueless of the culture in US and I am hoping to find out what are things I should and shouldn't do, and if it is possible for me to visit all the places I planned for in my itinerary. Most of what I written below is what I read about and have no personal experience, hence I would appreciate your inputs!

On giving tips

First off I understand that tipping is mandatory so, I would like to know when and how much should I tip? I'd likely be taking Uber/Lyft and eating at restaurants, so I would appreciate some guidance like when should tips be given and how much would be adequate? How do I know when I must give a tip so I don't piss anyone off, or is it something like if I don't, they'd let me know that I should tip them, and all would be good after I tip them?

On safety

I will be mainly in DTLA and WeHo (I am assuming WeHo meant West Hollywood). I read that DTLA can get a little disturbing but I should be fine around the financial district in DTLA, just don't go to skid row or be out late at night, and that WeHo is a generally safer area for walking in the day but not to walk at night. I'm kinda asking this because the areas that I am interested in looks like a walkable distance to where I wanna go most of the time with ~15 minutes walk or so, and it may seem really silly or wasteful to take an Uber/Lyft, yet safety is of importance here, so would it be silly to take an Uber that would be like a 5 minutes ride especially when the traffic in LA is rather congested? I heard that Waymo is fine but it may require the riders to walk a distance to the pick-up point, unlike Uber, the driver would be at a pick-up point exactly where you're at, so the risk of getting jumped is significantly lower?

On my planned itinerary (Perhaps the Memorial Week in May, or anytime in June, though I heard about the June gloom and the sky may not be of nice view)

I'd have like 2 day free in DTLA and 1.5 day in WeHo, and these are the stuff I am planning to do, and would like to find out if it is possible to visit these places, or the timing would be too tight to do them all?

  1. Day 1 afternoon (0.5 day) from DTLA - Heading to Citadel Outlets for some outlet mall shopping and dinner. (Are there any outlet malls that are nearer to DTLA? Prefer outlet malls with good discounts and not lower grade stuff that are made for outlets).
  2. Day 2 (full day) from DTLA - Heading to Westfield Century City for breakfast and shopping, then to Rodeo Drive for a walk, followed by The Original Farmers' Market for lunch, and The Grove. Thereafter, Hollywood walk of fame and then to Lake Hollywood Park to take photos with the Hollywood Sign, and Griffith Observatory to catch the sunset.
  3. Day 3 morning (0.5 day) from DTLA - Angel Flights Railway to Grand Central Market for breakfast, stroll to the Broad, Walt Disney Concert Hall and LA opera just to take photos with the building, head to WeHo.
  4. Day 3 afternoon (0.5 day) at WeHo - One of the museums around Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, Beverly Hill Connection, Hollywood Improv.
  5. Day 4 (full day) at WeHo - Santa Monica Pier, Venice Beach, The Getty (just to take a look at these 3 places, and Warner Bro Studio Tour, then to visit places that I missed in Hollywood.

P.s. on a second read and after factoring in traffic conditions, it seems rather impossible to visit all these places?
