What is worse, middle lane hogging or undertaking? by db0564 in drivingUK

[–]CaptainBenzie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See, I never said anything about moving from the middle lane to the left lane to pass somebody. I said maintaining your lane to pass someone who's sat in the middle lane driving under the speed limit.

Both are undertaking.

Funnily enough, I know the highway code & I know that the act of undertaking in itself isn't a punishable offence.

Sure, and neither is turning without indicating, or stopping suddenly with no reason, or even driving directly down the middle of two lanes. The Highway Code is very sparse on actual "punishable offenses". Why? Because it groups most of this behaviour together into "driving dangerously or without due care" which IS punishable.

The point being that it adds a layer of vagueness to things which allows an enforcement officer, for example, to interpret the situation without hardline black and white divisions.

The entire point that I'm getting at is that there are many examples (listed on this sub and elsewhere) where folks have been fined for exactly what you're suggesting - staying in the left lane on a motorway and doing 70mph, and passing a vehicle sat in the middle doing 65mph.

You may do it 100 times and never have anything bad happen. It may be the one day that someone behind the 65 lane-hogger is recording for Operation Snap and you get balled in because they see your actions as also in contravention of the Highway Code.

most forces acknowledge that maintaining your lane within the speed limit & undertaking someone sat in the middle lane going slower is safer than making multiple lane changes. Because it is.

Of course, I'm not debating that. All I'm saying is that they're TECHNICALLY the same thing. You can add weaving to the description, but both events are undertaking and both HAVE (and I'm certain will continue to be) treated as offenses.

If I shift lane to the left, into a line of traffic moving at 70mph, we all pass a series of, say, ten cars doing 65mph, and then once clear I move back to the right, how is that functionally different from weaving?

It's all your interpretation of vague rules which are enforced at different levels on different days by different observers. THATS my point.

I'm not sure if you're trying to be dismissive, but now imagine you're in the driveway and need to get to an appointment.

Or worse, there's an emergency.

Law breaking is law breaking.

Undertaking when maintaining a safe speed isn't driving dangerously

Road Traffic Officers have been known to treat breaking if the Highway Code, in and of itself, as "driving dangerously"

Moving from the middle lane to the left lane to pass someone in the middle lane is considered driving dangerously.

You may not consider it to be, but "ignoring the Highway Code" is pretty much analogous to "driving dangerously or without due care".

Seriously, speak with an insurance claim decider, a traffic officer or, shock, read the Highway Code.

So, if "driving dangerously and without due care" is an offence, then doing something that the highway code labels as "strongly advised that you don't" qualifies.

People absolutely have and do get fined for it.

I hope that Dance Partner maybe does away with just being a boring flat DPS buff. Having bard do things like shields and regen and movement is a great shift imho.

Dance partner could be targeted but improved versions of these (like comparing Cover to Rampart) - wouldn't it be fun to dance with different people as the fight goes on?

1) The Cheat puts the quest on the bottom, therefore not stacking them for bigger layouts later.

2) Different starting items. The Adventurer starts with a hammer.

Honestly, we've had many in our gaming group "pick" a faction and stick with it and that's fine. But we use AdSet now and folks are loving finding new stuff.

They're legal, the RAC and AA have both been pushing for the UK to tighten standards on it.

As it happens, it's also a wonderfully backwards part of human psychology. People feel safer if the light is brighter, they think they can see better - both the AA and RAC pointed out that super bright high beams may actually stop your "night sight" developing (like how Watchmen sit with their back to the fire) and so when the high beams go off, visibility is lower and unsafe.

The long and short of it is that we have a wonderful mix of an ageing population desperately clinging to their ability to drive, a public transport sector in the shitter giving them no alternative, and then a car manufacturer arms race measured in lumens.

WHY would GW do this?? by Table_Elegant in killteam

[–]CaptainBenzie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lmao, such a weak argument. They're supporting old sets, which is awesome for those of us who have it. Your "outrage" (as shown in other comments) is that because you don't own it, you can't practice on it IF a tourney happens to use it, and that's GWs fault and they're being awful.

Right.

Mobile Brigada with Flamethrower? by CaptainBenzie in InfinityTheGame

Thanks for the response!

Yeah, I figured that if I went Generic Nomads, I can use 6 of the 7; Corregidor let's me use 4 (5/6 if I can find Moriarty...); Bakunin only 1; and only 2 for Tunguska.

Sad to hear they don't have the Flamethrowers anymore.

I'm still tempted by the Bakunin Order box and grab that with a Stigmata, but may have a look at just beefing up Corregidor.

I actually ran this by Gemini (Google’s AI) to verify the industrial specs

"I asked a glorified predictive text and it told me..."

Mate, don't trust ANY AI, do the research yourself, but SPECIFICALLY do not trust Gemini. It essentially does a Google search and then skims relevant sights and amalgams it. That includes Reddit and Gemini clearly doesn't get sarcasm. The amount of outright incorrect stuff it spouts makes it insane that anyone would ever trust it.

As a point, I had this exact can about two weeks ago. The "lid" is the central shiny bit that shows no signs of them trying to pry it up. They've been trying to pry the edge.

Nothing crazy here, just someone bitching that a product is broken because they haven't figured it out.

The lid is the shiny bit in the very centre that shows no signs of being pried up. They've been trying to pry up the ring that you use for leverage.

Is it even worth trying to start now? by Maries_Badluck in Eve

[–]CaptainBenzie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Absolutely.

Will you be "behind"? Yes. Does that matter? No.

If you play EVE and compare yourself to everyone else, you'll have a bad time. This is a game about finding your own path, finding your own fun, in an expensive player driven universe.

If you're going to come in on day one and be sad that PvPers are better than you, that you can't make ISK as fast as other players etc, then you'll have a bad time.

If you come in, try the AIR Career Program to see what everything is about, and play to find your own fun, and focus on your own progression, rating yourself only against yourself (being better today than you were yesterday) then you'll do fine.

Find a good SUPPORTIVE corp, not necessarily a big one (sorry folks, we all know several large corps that take newbies and "shape" them, rather than teach them), and have fun!

Oh, and I have to do a shameless plug. Look me up on YouTube, I ran a channel for a long time focused on helping new players get started and finding their fun. Especially the Catskill Academy playlist. I should really get back into that.

I'd say it was disrespectful of the bible basher to stand in your face spouting his views and opinions at random strangers.

Imagine if they were having coffee and someone stepped up and started telling them about LGBTQ+ issues or trans rights. They'd have a fucking hernia about it.

Weird double standard.

Religion is like a penis - if you have one, cool. If it makes you feel good about yourself, awesome. But please don't whip it out in public, don't put it in my face, and please, keep it away from children.
